Limited time: American Express doubles MGM referral bonuses (get up to 15,000 extra miles)

From now till 31 March 2021, American Express is doubling its usual Member-Get-Member (MGM) referral bonuses for both referrer and referee. Both will receive up to 15,000 miles upon the referee’s approval, on top of the usual sign-up bonuses. 

AMEX’s new MGM offers

Here’s what the revised MGM offers look like for American Express credit cards:

Remember: when you sign up via MGM, you’re still entitled to the regular sign-up bonus and gifts. This creates some lucrative opportunities.

For example, someone who applies for the AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend and spends S$5,000 in the first 3 months will receive:

• 6,000 base miles (S$5,000 @ 1.2 mpd)
• 15,000 miles from MGM
• B&O Beoplay E8 2.0 earbuds
• 10,000 miles sign-up bonus (if new to AMEX)
• 5,000 miles first-spend bonus (if new to AMEX Singapore Airlines cards)

That’s up to 36,000 miles plus a pair of B&O earbuds for just S$5,000 spend, an extremely decent haul (and even better than what you’d get with the 4 mpd cards). 

Likewise, someone who signs up for the AMEX Platinum Credit Card and spends S$5,000 in the first 3 months will receive:

• 6,250 base MR points (S$5,000 @ 2 MR points per S$1.60, or 3,472 miles)
• 24,000 MR points from MGM (13,333 miles)
• S$150 Lazada vouchers
• Samsung 24″ FHD Monitor + j5create USB HD Webcam

With regards to the AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card, do note that Milelion readers (who are new to American Express cards) can still access a superior offer: 10,000 miles with S$1,500 spent within 3 months, for applications approved by 31 March 2021. 

That’s better than getting 8,000 miles with S$2,000 spend under the MGM.

Conclusion

The double MGM bonus makes this the perfect time to pull the trigger on a new AMEX card, and remember, you don’t need to be new-to-bank in order to get the MGM bonus (for example, if I have an AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card, I’m still eligible for the MGM bonus on the AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend).
