American Express has launched an excellent flash deal on the AMEX Platinum Credit Card, exclusively for Milelion readers.
From 8 March to 30 June 2021, new cardholders will receive 60,000 bonus MR points (33,333 miles) when they spend S$5,000 in the first 3 months, plus a further 20,000 bonus MR points (11,111 miles) and S$150 Love Dining credit when they pay the S$321 annual fee.
Including the base points, and that’s 86,250 MR points (47,917 miles or a night at the Conrad Maldives) from S$5,000 of spend.

MR points can be converted into KrisFlyer (or 8 other airline partners) at a rate of 450 MR points= 250 miles, so your total return on S$5,000 of spending is 47,917 miles.
However, even if you’re not so hot on miles right now, 86,250 MR points is equal to 107,800 Hilton Honors points. That’s more than enough for one night at the Conrad Maldives or the Conrad Koh Samui!
The S$150 Love Dining credit is awarded in the form of 5x S$30 statement credits, triggered with every S$60 spent in one or more transactions at Love Dining merchants. For example, if my bill (after all discounts and taxes) is S$100, I will receive a S$30 credit; if my bill is S$230, I will receive a S$90 credit. Love Dining credits must be used within 6 months of approval.

What spending is eligible?
The S$5,000 spending can be met with any purchases of eligible goods or services which post to your account within the first 3 months after approval. American Express has published a list of excluded spending categories here, but the key ones to note are:
- GrabPay top-ups
- Insurance
- SPC transactions
- Utilities
For the avoidance of doubt, hospital transactions, donations, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list will count as eligible spend.

Conclusion
I’d wager that most miles chasers would prefer 80,000 MR points to a monitor and webcam any day of the week, and even if you’re not too hot on miles right now, those could also be turned into Hilton or Marriott Bonvoy points.

I believe that AMEX is quite strict about not offering AF waivers for this card. if you hold an AMEX Plat Charge, you won’t pay the AF for this card, but then again you wouldnt really need it either…

I was offered it free, for holding Ascend (iirc). The offer came while on the phone with the CSO about another matter. You can call and ask them about this.
Edited to add: I was holding the Rewards card then. Plat cc is considered an upgrade.

the platinum charge MGM is not contingent on you being new to AMEX, so you will still get the 40K bonus MR points.
