Singapore Airlines moves more flights to Changi Terminal 2

From 11 April 2023, Singapore Airlines flights to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will depart from Changi Terminal 2.

Back in October 2022, Singapore Airlines restored two-terminal operations at Changi Airport for the first time since COVID began. All Southeast Asia departures were shifted to the new-look Terminal 2, which is still undergoing renovations due to be completed by early 2024.

In ensuing months, Terminal 2 has progressively expanded its operations. It currently hosts nine other airlines including Star Alliance members Lufthansa and SWISS, while the E gates have started hosting flights too.

Singapore Airlines is now further adding to its Terminal 2 roster, with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka departures relocated as of today.

Singapore Airlines has relocated Bangladesh and Sri Lanka departures to Changi Terminal 2, effective 11 April 2023.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights to Dhaka in Bangladesh and Colombo in Sri Lanka will depart from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2, from Tuesday, 11 April 2023.

SIA flights to South East Asia destinations will operate out of Changi Airport Terminal 2, while flights to other destinations will operate out of Changi Airport Terminal 3. Customers may visit this link for the latest information on flights departing from Singapore Changi Airport.

The first T2 departure to Bangladesh, SQ446 to Dhaka, will depart at 2035 hours, while the first T2 departure to Sri Lanka, SQ468 to Colombo, will depart at 2220 hours.

With the latest additions, Singapore Airlines has now restored all its pre-pandemic T2 destinations, except the Maldives. Flights to Male still depart from T3.

What are the lounge options in Terminal 2?

Silver Kris First Class Lounge Terminal 2

As a reminder, Singapore Airlines operates three different lounges in Changi T2:

  • KrisFlyer Gold Lounge (KFG)
  • SilverKris Business Class (SKL J)
  • SilverKris First Class (SKL F)

The lounge you can access will depend on your cabin of travel, as well as elite status. Remember: KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Gold members travelling in Economy Class don’t get access to the SilverKris Lounges at Changi Airport; it’s off to the “dedicated” KrisFlyer Gold Lounge with you!

KFEG/*A Gold (Economy)
SQ= Singapore Airlines, KFEG= KrisFlyer Elite Gold, *A= Star Alliance

I’ve reviewed all three lounges recently, but the tl;dr is that if time isn’t a factor, you’ll be much happier at the T3 equivalents of all three lounges (you can check in at T3 even if your flight is departing from T2).

It’s been more than a decade since the T2 facilities received any real renovations, and it’s very plain to see. There’s been rumours that Singapore Airlines may be planning to spruce up the T2 facilities, which would be sorely needed since T5 is only due to open in the mid-2030s!

If it’s any consolation, with Singapore Airlines now using the E gates in T2, the walk times could now be much shorter from lounge to boarding.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines flights to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka now depart from Terminal 2, which brings the airline back to its full complement of pre-COVID T2 destinations, save the Maldives.

Fortunately, if you prefer the T3 lounge experience (and you should!), there’s nothing stopping you from checking in at T3 and enjoying the lounge before catching the SkyTrain over to T2.

YMMV — “(you can check in at T3 even if your flight is departing from T2)”

I was turned away from T3 and asked to travel to T2 for check in. The check in staff claimed the baggage lines are not interlinked between terminals and I was unable to do so.

Yes this is true. I frequently check in T2 flights at T3. The counter confirmed with his supervisor once and I heard the rule, you need to be more than 90 minutes early for the baggage to catch up with the flight.

If you’re very close to the cut-off they might allow 1 bag to go through, otherwise they have to reject you.

At the moment, only gates E1, E2 and E3 are being used by T2 departures. The northern arrivals area is probably not ready yet so no arrivals will be using those gates.

Gates E20 and beyond are still being used mainly by Scoot’s departures (from T1) and is a de facto extension of the D-pier in T1.

Oh am I the only one who prefers T2 lounges? I went to the Gold Lounge and was amazed. Not so much the facility but how empty and completely silent it was. Maybe it was pure luck, but this was my best lounge experience in Changi so far.
