Financial markets and the political establishment are still reeling from my announcement last month that I’d be joining Team Cashback till end-September, at least where groceries are concerned.
That’s because of the new-and-improved DBS yuu Card, which is offering an unbeatable 18% cashback on up to S$600 of spending each month at Cold Storage, Giant, Guardian and other yuu merchants. As much as I love my miles, I think it’d be negligent not to take 18% cashback over 4 mpd (even 6 mpd arguably).

Offer ends 6 Jun 23. Min. spend of S$350 within 30 days of approval required. Apply with promo code DBSYUU |
To further sweeten the deal, DBS has now launched its best-ever yuu Card sign-up offer, with up to S$120 cashback for existing cardmembers, and S$350 cashback for new cardmembers.
That’s basically 100% cashback for the latter group, and it’s a fantastic deal any way you look at it.
DBS yuu Card flash deal
From 10 May to 6 June 2023, customers who apply for a DBS yuu Card are eligible for the following sign-up gifts:
New Cardmembers | Existing Cardmembers | |
DBS yuu AMEX Apply |
S$350 | S$120 |
DBS yuu Visa Apply |
S$300 | S$80 |
Apply with promo code DBSYUU |
||
โ New Cardmembers are defined as those who do not currently hold a principal DBS/POSB card, and have not cancelled one in the past 12 months |
You must apply with the promo code DBSYUU to be eligible. The promo code field can be found towards the bottom of the application page, under the “DBS Marketing & Promotions Materials” section.
All cards must be approved by 20 June 2023, and a minimum spend of S$350 within 30 days of approval is required.
For context, this is even better than last month’s flash deal, which offered S$80/S$300 cashback to existing/new cardmembers, regardless of which version they applied for.
Eligible cardholders will receive their cashback within 2-3 months of meeting the minimum spend.
Minimum spend
Cardholders must spend at least S$350 within 30 days of approval.
Qualifying spend excludes the usual suspects like education, insurance, hospitals, government agencies and utilities.
My advice is to meet the entire minimum spend at yuu merchants. You could spend at non-yuu merchants too, but why would you? It can’t be that difficult to clock S$350 at a combination of Cold Storage, Giant, Guardian, or any other yuu merchant, and doing so lets you maximise your overall rebate.

Of the 36 points per S$1 at yuu merchants:
|
The DBS yuu Card has replaced its convoluted earning system with an elegantly simple 18% rebate on all yuu merchants.
This comprises of:
- A base 10 points per S$1 spent (equivalent to 5% rebate, no min. spend, no cap)
- A bonus 26 points per S$1 spent (equivalent to 13% rebate, min. S$600 spend, cap S$600 spend)
The bonus component is valid till 30 September 2023, so make hay while you can.

So here’s what you do:
Month | Spend | Rebate |
May 2023 | S$600 | Up to S$458 (S$108 in yuu points + up to S$350 sign-up bonus) |
Jun 2023 | S$600 | S$108 |
Jul 2023 | S$600 | S$108 |
Aug 2023 | S$600 | S$108 |
Sep 2023 | S$600 | S$108 |
Total | S$3,000 | S$890 |
By spending S$600 per month from May till September, you’d receive up to S$890 cashback on S$3,000 of spend, an effective rebate of ~30%! That’s almost too good to be true, and I’d take that any day of the week over miles cards alternatives.
Remember: if you’re spending more than S$600 on groceries, there’s nothing stopping you from paying the rest with a miles card anyway!
Conclusion
From now till 6 June 2023, new DBS yuu Cardholders can get up to S$350 cashback when they spend at least S$350 within 30 days of approval. That’s on top of the regular 18% rebates, resulting in a very sweet deal provided you spend exactly S$600 per month.
Remember to apply for the AMEX version for the bigger offer, and enter DBSYUU in the promo code field.
Thanks! Can an existing DBS cardmember apply both Visa and Amex and get $120+$80, asking for a friend.
Nope, from their t&c:
5. Each Eligible Cardmember is limited to (1) Welcome Gift during the Promotion Period regardless of the number of Eligible Cards applied or approved during the same period. Eligible Cardmembers will not be eligible for any other DBS/POSB Card sign-up promotions or in combination with any other promotions.
May i know what is the “bigger offer” means for AMEX version?
Thanks.
Quote “Of the 36 points per S$1 at yuu merchants:
>> 10 base points will be credited when the transaction posts”
Not exactly, here is how it really works :
1 Base Point credited at Point-of-Sale when yuu app is scanned at check-out cashier
9 Base Points will be credited when transaction posts
I had a $10 Discount coupon for a $40 item purchased, the points were credited as follows :
40 points at POS check-out
270 points when the transaction was posted (based on $30 payment)
thanks! have added a note.
can buy Giant Voucher?
Keen to know too. But I believe should be okay since the cashier will process like a normal purchase?
It works for the DBS yuu card payment, so you get the 9x points. But the 1x point from yuu app at Giant POS checkout will not be awarded as Giant vouchers are not eligible under the DFI transactions.
so i will lose 1x point?
does paying singtel bills online qualify for the 18%?
since we have linked the DBS YUU card to the YUU App, do we just pay with the DBS yuu credit card or do we have to first scan the Yuu app at the counter and then pay using the DBS Yuu card again at the Counter? does anyone know ?
