Well, this is highly unexpected.
We were all waiting for Spontaneous Escapes to drop today (it’s normally released on the 15th of each month, unless that day falls on a weekend or public holiday), and Singapore Airlines has instead announced a KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale.
This offers 25% off all Economy Class Saver and selected Premium Economy Saver awards booked by Sunday, 22 October 2023, with travel between 1 January to 31 July 2024. Unfortunately, there’s no Business Class awards on offer.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think this means the end of Spontaneous Escapes as we know it- I’ll wait until 15 November comes around to see if we should be panicking. However, it is bad news for those holding out hope for a discounted November getaway.
KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale
KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale |
The KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale offers KrisFlyer members:
- 25% off Economy Saver awards to all Singapore Airlines destinations
- 25% off Premium Economy Saver awards on selected non-stop flights between Singapore and the USA
Awards must be booked by 22 October 2023, with travel from 1 January to 31 July 2024. This is a departure from the usual Spontaneous Escapes M.O., which requires you to book awards by the end of the month, for travel in the following month.
However, all awards continue to be strictly non-changeable and non-cancellable. And with the travel period at least two months away, there’s a lot more that can go wrong. So I’d highly advise you to purchase travel insurance that covers miles and points bookings, if you plan to proceed.
These awards will show up in the Promo category, just like regular Spontaneous Escapes awards, and can only be booked on the SingaporeAir.com website or SingaporeAir mobile app. Waitlisting is not possible.
25% off Economy awards
Singapore Airlines is offering 25% off Economy Saver awards on all Singapore Airlines flights, and they really mean all.
Even the highly popular SQ26 route from Singapore to New York JFK is on sale, and 33,000 miles each way is objectively a good deal- if your pain threshold is high enough.
The discount isn’t just for flights from Singapore, mind you. You can book any flight combination in the Singapore Airlines network at 25% off, such as Sydney to London.
Here’s an idea of how much awards will cost from Singapore to each zone, after the 25% discount.

25% off Premium Economy awards
The following Premium Economy awards between Singapore to the USA have been discounted by 25%.
I generally don’t advise redeeming miles for Premium Economy Class, since the price gap between Business Class is relatively small compared to the comfort gap, but again this could make sense for some people.
By the way, please don’t book an Economy or Premium Economy award under this promotion and cross your fingers about receiving a low-cost Business Class upgrade offer via mySQupgrade, as paid upgrades no longer apply to award tickets.
Conclusion
Spontaneous Escapes has been delayed this month, as Singapore Airlines has decided instead to run a flash sale on Economy and Premium Economy awards instead.
The big advantage is that you can book travel as far ahead as July 2024, as opposed to the usual “travel next month” restriction that Spontaneous Escapes has. However, with awards being non-changeable and non-refundable, you need to be sure of your travel plans before pulling the trigger.
What do you make of the KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale?
25% OFF SEOUL RETURN economy โ is it worth it now that its 25% ?
And nothing offered for any business cabin.
๐
Now I can redeem KUL or CGK without feeling guilty.
well, maybe feel a little guilty. with the abundance of budget flights available, i still feel this wouldn’t be good value even at 25% off
After adding fees for luggage and the like, I think the prices of budget airlines come close to those of full service airlines. I guess its nice to hear โand to all Singaporeans, a warm welcome home..โ ๐
