Merry Christmas from The MileLion

Tidings of comfort, joy, and abundantly available Saver space.

Merry Christmas to The MileLion community!

Here’s hoping today finds you in the company of family and friends (and Krug Rose, if you’re flying SQ), reflecting on the blessings this year has brought. And even if this hasn’t been the best of years, the peace and safety we enjoy in our small corner of the world shouldn’t be taken for granted, in light of all that’s happening right now.

A few quick updates from my side.

I’ll be continuing my annual tradition by sharing some reflections on five years of full time MileLion-ing, as I’ve done every year since 2018. The past 12 months have been transformative to say the least, so forgive me if I need more time to put my thoughts together.

Post Christmas, I’ll be heading to Bali with the family for what will be the MileCub’s first-ever overseas trip. To parents who pick Europe or North America for your baby’s first trip, I salute you, and also think you might want to get your heads examined.

The legendary bassinet seat awaits! | Photo: Flying with a Baby

I find the idea of travelling with a baby intimidating, so our plan is to start small, and I mean really small. If we can’t handle a single infant on a short-haul flight, within the same time zone, with both sets of grandparents and a helper, we should probably turn in our parenting license (note to Western media: we don’t actually need a license to have a baby in Singapore; that was a literary technique commonly known as hyperbole).

If only you could travel so light with a baby…

There’s nothing new to review here from an airline or hotel perspective, but this trip has provided me with an opportunity to learn more about booking infant tickets. I’ll be doing up a post on that as well, so stay tuned.

Other posts to look forward to include my annual Christmas wishlist for the miles and points game, a recap of the biggest stories on The MileLion in 2023, and of course, my overall credit card strategy for 2024.

Finally, a reminder that MilkLion, aka The MileLion’s Christmas Fundraiser 2023, is running till the end of today. As of this morning, we’ve raised an incredible S$45,210 out of a S$50,000 goal to support aLife in providing basic necessities for needy mothers. It’s the highest amount we’ve ever raised as a community, but we need one final push!

Donate Here

All donations of at least S$50 are eligible for 2.5X tax deductions- refer to the post for which credit cards still earn miles on donations.

A very big thanks to everyone again for your readership and support. The MileLion lives and dies by its community, and I couldn’t ask for a wackier bunch of miles fanatics than you guys.

Merry Christmas to one and all!

Merry Christmas to you Aaron. I’m in Korea now with my family of 6, and we all are flying both ways on redeemed business class tickets, thanks in large part to everything I have learnt from you. And I have even redeemed saver business class for 6 to London for December next year! Now keeping fingers crossed for the return trip booking. Truly grateful to you. Keep up the great work and have a great year ahead.
