New AMEX Offer: 50% off Klook and other local attractions

Register your AMEX cards and enjoy 50% off Klook and other local attractions, capped at S$30 per card.

American Express has launched a new AMEX Offer for local activities, which gives registered cardholders 50% back at participating merchants, capped at S$30 per card.

This includes numerous attractions on Sentosa, but perhaps more importantly, Klook. Gift card purchases trigger the credit, so this can be a very lucrative deal- all the more if you have multiple AMEX cards on hand.

Registration is required, and can be done via the AMEX Offers portal.

โ“ What are AMEX Offers?

AMEX Offers are opportunities to earn bonus miles/points, or statement credits. These can be found in the โ€œOffersโ€ section of the AMEX app or web portal.

Registration is required, and some offers may be targeted. These are not applicable to DBS/Citi/UOB AMEX cardholders.

Get 50% back on local attractions with AMEX cards

Here’s the key details of this AMEX Offer:

  • No minimum spend is necessary
  • 50% rebate is capped at a total of S$30 (i.e. S$60 spend)
  • Spending can be in one or more transactions
  • Payments must be made by 30 June 2024

A total registration cap of 20,000 cards applies, but you can register as many cards as were targeted for this offer. In my case, I can see the offer across all four AMEX cards I have (AMEX Platinum Charge, Platinum Reserve, HighFlyer and KrisFlyer Ascend).

Statement credits should be posted within 15 days from qualifying spend, but are usually much faster.

Participating merchants

This AMEX offer is valid at the following merchants:

Note that it doesn’t have to be strictly activities only, because the Palawan Food Trucks are also included! But more importantly, note that Klook is listed here too, which leads to a potentially lucrative use case…

Klook gift cards

Klook gift cards

The easiest way of utilising this offer would be to purchase Klook gift cards and add them to your account balance.

One slight hitch is that Klook does not let you specify an exact value for gift cards, selling them in denominations of:

  • S$25
  • S$50
  • S$100
  • S$200
  • S$500

Therefore, you can’t max out this offer on the dot, as that would require a spend of S$60. So you either:

  • Buy 1x S$50 gift card, which would mean a rebate of S$25 (and then you’d need to find somewhere else to spend S$10 for the remaining S$5)
  • Buy 3x S$25 gift cards, which would mean a rebate of S$30 (though you’d “overspend” by S$15)

Klook gift cards work like cash in the sense that they’re added to a pooled balance, and you can stack Klook credits and promo codes when paying with your Klook gift card balance.

A few important points to note:

  • Klook gift card balances have a one year validity (it used to never expire, but that changed with effect from 8 May 2024)
  • Klook gift cards cannot be used to pay for Klook Passes, travel insurance, individual Japan Tickets and Europe train tickets

I can confirm that Klook gift card purchases will trigger the statement credits, as I already see them on my account.

Keep in mind that Klook is more than just tours and activities; you can also book airport transfers, dining vouchers, Wi-Fi routers and eSIMs, and metro passes via the platform.

Conclusion

American Express has launched a new AMEX Offer which gives up to S$30 per registered card for local attractions plus Klook, and is basically free money given how versatile the Klook platform is.

Be sure to check your AMEX app and register your cards (if you have supplementary cards, check whether the offer is available there too), because there’s an overall cap of 20,000 cards.

Amex is like a charity organization. Thank you Amex

Is it necessary to hit min $60 (1x$50 + elsewhere $10, or 3 x $25) ?
it seems there’s no min spend restriction.

Anon

It is trying to maximise the rebate that is capped at $30

Lincoln

yup. i understand it’s to maximise the max $30 cashback. but by doing so, the discount will drop from 50% to 40%.
i’m just thinking, whether we’ll still get the 50% cashback ($25), if we just buy $50 Klook Gift Card only.

Lincoln

tested. even if just buy $50 Klook Gift Card, will still get the 50% cashback.
dun realli need to hit $60 spend

tong

why can’t I find the local activities offer? Was it withdrawn because of reaching limits?

Smol brain

Too late already bro, only 20k cards to register and fully redeemed

Chris

I just bought the gift card and have the offer in my wallet. But how come the 50% is not reflected in my transaction yet? Has been like 3 to 5 days already.
