American Express 30 Million Miles Campaign: Upsized welcome offers for AMEX cards

American Express has launched a new campaign for the AMEX Platinum Charge, AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend and AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card, which features a 30,000,000 KrisFlyer miles pool.

Customers who apply for these cards during the promotion period will enjoy upsized welcome offers, until the miles pool is fully exhausted.

While there’s offers for three different cards, the real attraction here is the AMEX Platinum Charge, especially if you’re an existing AMEX cardholder who will get 120,000 bonus MR points with a minimum spend of S$8,000. This is only the second time we’ve seen a six-digit welcome offer for existing AMEX cardholders since the AMEX Platinum Charge relaunched in 2018!

New-to-AMEX customers who apply for an AMEX Platinum Charge and receive approval by 30 September 2024 will receive:

• 40,000 bonus MR points for paying the S$1,744 annual fee
• 91,000 bonus MR points spending S$8,000 within the first 60 days of approval
• 10,000 base MR points (based on S$8,000 spend @ 2 MR points per S$1.60)

All in all, that’s 141,000 MR points for S$8,000 of spend. 

Existing customers

Existing AMEX customers who apply for an AMEX Platinum Charge and receive approval by 30 September 2024 will receive:

• 40,000 bonus MR points for paying the S$1,744 annual fee
• 80,000 bonus MR points spending S$8,000 within the first 60 days of approval 
• 10,000 base MR points (based on S$8,000 spend @ 2 MR points per S$1.60)

All in all, that’s 130,000 MR points for S$8,000 of spend.

All first-time American Express KrisFlyer cobrand cardholders will enjoy 5,000 miles on their first spend of any amount. This is a once per lifetime bonus, so if you’ve held an American Express KrisFlyer cobrand card before, you won’t receive it a second time.

New-to-AMEX customers who spend at least S$1,000 within the first month of approval (defined as 30 calendar days) will receive 31,800 bonus KrisFlyer miles.

To summarise the offer, by spending S$1,000 in the first 30 days of approval, you’ll receive 38,000 miles, broken down as follows:

• 5,000 bonus miles for first spend
• 31,800 bonus miles for meeting S$1,000 spend
• 1,200 base miles for spending S$1,000 @ 1.2 mpd

Existing customers

All first-time American Express KrisFlyer cobrand cardholders will enjoy 5,000 miles on their first spend of any amount. This is a once per lifetime bonus, so if you’ve held an American Express KrisFlyer cobrand card before, you won’t receive it a second time.

Existing customers who spend at least S$1,000 within the first month of approval (defined as 30 calendar days) will receive 21,800 bonus KrisFlyer miles.

To summarise the offer, by spending S$1,000 in the first 30 days of approval, you’ll receive 28,000 miles, broken down as follows:

There is no AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card welcome offer for existing AMEX customers.

Conclusion

American Express has launched a 30 million miles campaign, which upsizes the welcome offers for the AMEX Platinum Charge, AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend and (to a much lesser degree) AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card.

The campaign will end on 30 September 2024 or when the miles pool is finished, whichever comes first. But don’t worry, I’ll be in touch with AMEX and will update this article once the pool is finished, so you’ll know before applying whether the upsized offers are still valid. No updates means the campaign’s still live!
