⚠️ Note: This article was originally titled “AXS removes support for Chocolate Visa Card payments”. Since then it’s become clear that Chocolate is the one who pulled support, I’ve renamed and edited it accordingly, and included a statement from an AXS spokesperson. |
One of the biggest selling points of the Chocolate Visa Card is its ability to earn up to 2 Max Miles per S$1 on virtually everything, even AXS, charitable donations, education, hospitals, insurance premiums, and utilities.
It’s an easy way to rack up miles on bills that would normally have to be settled through PayNow, bank transfers, or other miles-ineligible methods.

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to remove AXS from that list, because the party’s over.
Chocolate Visa Card removes support for AXS payments
Around midday on Wednesday, 5 March 2025, Chocolate removed support for AXS payments. Attempts to make payments will now result in an error message.
Chocolate Finance’s FAQ was initially updated as follows, which made it seem as if AXS was the one who pulled support.
AXS is no longer accepting the Chocolate Debit Card as a credit card payment mechanism. We are exploring with them to see if we can resolve.
-Chocolate Finance
However, AXS later provided the following statement via a spokesperson.
The removal of Chocolate Visa Card as a payment option on AXS was made at the request of Chocolate Finance. We work closely with our partners and have honored their request to implement the change. AXS strives to offer as many payment options as possible and welcomes issuers who wish to use our platform to reach more users.
-AXS Spokesperson
Having been called out, Chocolate then updated its FAQs.
Chocolate Debit Card can no longer be used as a credit card payment mechanism on AXS.
…
We periodically review our spend categories to ensure balance and long-term sustainability of our rewards programme. At this time, AXS payments are paused, but we are evaluating whether to bring them back in the future.
-Chocolate Finance
From the way they’re phrasing it, there is a possibility that Chocolate might return to AXS, but frankly speaking I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Now, this obviously reduces the utility of the Chocolate Visa Card. There are organisations, most notably IRAS, which only accept card payments via AXS. In such scenarios, the only way you can earn miles now is to use an alternative payment service like CardUp or Citi PayAll- both of which entail fees.
If it’s any consolation, to the extent that an organisation also accepts direct card payments, nothing much has changed- you’ll just need to pay them directly instead of via AXS (e.g. some schools, certain insurance premiums, hospitals, utilities bills)
There may be some additional inconvenience involved, in cases where you need to travel down to a physical location to swipe your card. But so long as there’s an option to pay with a card, not all hope is lost.
And, rewards exclusions aside, the Chocolate Visa Card still has one more trick up its sleeve: zero foreign currency (FCY) transaction fees. FCY transactions are converted into SGD at Visa’s rate, with no further markup on the Chocolate side. While there are a handful of cards which offer this feature too (namely Trust Bank), those offer relatively mediocre rewards compared to Chocolate.
Chocolate x HeyMax FAQs
If you’re new to the whole Chocolate x HeyMax partnership, I’ve written a detailed series of FAQs to get you up to speed.
This guide has now been updated to reflect the nerfing of AXS.
Conclusion
From 5 March 2025, it’s no longer possible to make AXS payments with the Chocolate Visa Card.
This nerf no doubt stings, especially with income tax season just kicking off. It basically removes the only option for earning free miles on taxes, as well as other merchants which only accept card payments via AXS.
For what it’s worth, you can still use the Chocolate Visa to earn miles on commonly-excluded transactions like education, government services, insurance premiums and utilities, but that boils down to whether the merchant accepts Visa.
Well that did not last long did it !!
I’m guessing that when lots of people were doing 1000s of 1 cent transactions to game the system when Chocolate was rounding up miles set off too many alarm bells.
Seriously? How many 1cent transactions would you have to do, to get even 1000 miles? You would have to be totally desperate for miles to generate them this way….
anyway 1 cent transactions wouldnt work anymore because max miles has changed their rounding policy and set a minimum spend to earn miles.
Even if you take only 1min to complete a 1c transaction, you will need >16hrs to get the 1k miles. I supposed these people can’t even earn $200 in 2 days, else why would anyone do that
Didn’t this promotion come out less than one month ago?
So fast back track?
the promotion is the ability to earn 2 max miles per $1. that continues.
axs was just a nice use of it
Jesus Christ
That was FAST. a tad too fast actually.
I paid the max amount last month and wanted to pay again days ago.
Darn.
I doubt it will come back though
You have to wonder what is the motivation of AXS to do this. AXS don’t pay for the cost of the miles do they? I would not think so – that is an arrangement between Chocolate Finance and Hey Max isn’t it? So why would AXS remove something that does not create any cost for them? Or am I missing something?
good question – could it be potential compliance issue?
Seems recent news came to light… It was initiated by Chocolate Finance themselves :s
yup. i have updated this article to reflect that, and added a statement by an axs spokesperson. poor form on chocolate’s part, trying to shift the blame elsewhere.
Poor form is a nice way of saying they were not so honest and probably trying to mislead users. I wound’t really trust them, debit card account and other factors included. This whole chocolate thing has seemed a bit odd to me. It’ll probably be ok for a few more months and then….. why can’t they all be like yuu, more than a year on and going strong at 18% or 10mpd with no changes and even adding on instant mile transfers
Wah GG… Now withdrawals have been stopped. I can’t even use the debit card to pay :s
Hi, related yet not totally in same context to this post: Is AXS payment only considered as the physical kiosk? Will paying via eAXS (mobile app) be a same MCC/name?
came here to say GOOD JOB on clear, objective reporting on CF and not like Seth who caused PANIC with his click-bait title. milelion FTW
