While most supplementary cards offer token benefits at best, the AMEX Platinum Charge breaks the mould by providing supplementary cardholders with unlimited lounge access, hotel elite status, dining discounts and other perks.
Two supplementary cards are provided free of charge, with a S$163.50 annual fee for the third card onwards — which is arguably worth paying, given the benefits on offer. However, from next month, that fee will increase by 67% to S$272.50.
Here’s what you should know about the change.
AMEX Platinum Charge increasing annual fees for supplementary cards

From 15 October 2026, the AMEX Platinum Charge will increase the annual fee for supplementary cards to S$272.50.
This fee applies to the third supplementary card onwards; the first two supplementary cards will continue to enjoy a perpetual annual fee waiver.
The increase in annual fees will only take place from the next renewal, so if your supplementary cards were approved before 15 October 2026, you’ll continue to pay the current S$163.50 annual fee until the next membership year.
A S$109 increase probably won’t bankrupt you, but given that Singapore customers are already paying the most expensive Platinum Card fees in the world, it does feel like one thing after another.

What benefits do supplementary cards enjoy?
While no one likes a fee increase, it should be said that the AMEX Platinum Charge offers solid supplementary cardholder benefits — probably among the best in the market right now.
Unlimited lounge access

Supplementary AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders enjoy unlimited access to Plaza Premium and Centurion Lounges, together with one guest. They can also access Delta Sky Clubs and Lufthansa Lounges when flying on Delta and Lufthansa Group carriers respectively, though the latter privilege is set to end in October 2026.

Hotel elite status
Supplementary AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders enjoy the same status benefits as principal cardholders:
- GHA DISCOVERY Platinum
- Hilton Honors Gold
- Marriott Bonvoy Gold
- Radisson Rewards Premium
- Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Five Star
Hilton Honors Gold is the pick of the bunch, as it offers complimentary breakfast for two adults, every day of the stay (except in the USA, where members receive an F&B credit instead).
Elite status is maintained so long as you keep the AMEX Platinum Charge.
Other perks
Supplementary AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders also enjoy:
- Ability to book AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts properties (similar benefits are available via HoteLux or other luxury agent channels, though only AMEX FHR enjoys guaranteed 4 p.m late check-out)
- Comoclub C5 membership
- Marina Bay Sands LifeStyle Prestige membership (3 months)
- Paragon Club Prestige tier (6 months)
- Regional Golf Programme
- Tower Club access
Supplementary cards disqualify you from new-to-AMEX status!
Since we’re talking about supplementary cards, it’s worth a reminder that ever since 31 July 2025, American Express defines new-to-AMEX customers as those who:
- do not hold any principal or supplementary AMEX consumer card at the time of application, and
- have not cancelled any principal or supplementary AMEX consumer card in the past 12 months
This means that you will be disqualified from new-to-AMEX welcome offers if you hold a supplementary AMEX card, or cancelled one within the past 12 months.
Other issuers only exclude current or recent principal cardholders from new-to-bank welcome offers, so American Express is the only one on the market with such a restriction at the moment. Before you give someone a supplementary card, make sure they don’t have plans to apply for another AMEX card in their own right!
Conclusion
The AMEX Platinum Charge will be increasing the cost of supplementary cards from S$163.50 to S$272.50 on 15 October 2026, though the annual fees for the first two cards will continue to be waived.
In the cold light of day, paying S$272.50 for a card that offers unlimited lounge access is hardly the worst deal, though that’s not much comfort to customers who are already paying the highest membership fees in the world.
