Even though Starwood is being bought by Marriott, the SPG program should not be affected until 2017 at the earliest. Therefore there’s still every reason to take part in their latest promotion, SPG Take Two.
TL;DR version- 2X starpoints for all stays of 2 nights or more at ALLย Starwood properties worldwide, 11th Jan to 30th April 2016.
On top of this, if you’re staying at any of these selected properties, you get 250 bonus starpoints per night. Note that this does not require the 2 night minimum that the 2X starpoints demands.
I’ve got a few January stays in Abu Dhabi coming up, and fortunately all the UAE Starwood properties feature prominently on the included list.
Remember that you can earn these points even if your stay starts before the 11th. That is, suppose I have a stay from 5th Jan to 13th Jan. I will earn double starpoints on theย entireย stay, not just the 11th to 13th Jan segment.
All in all, I think the days of triple Starwood point promos are gone so this is really the best we can hope for. Combine this with some MAGC (make a green choice) vouchers to really rack up the points!
Dang… I have a work trip to Macau soon and have to stay there for 35 nights. My company usually have us stay in a specific hotel where they have a corporate rate. I could probably request to stay at Sheraton Macau instead and pay the difference out of pocket, but not sure if that is worth it…..
Did some calculation and I guess it is not worth it for this work trip. The company hotel is around 120USD a night while Sheraton Macau is 177USD a night, meaning I have to top up 57USD a night for 35 nights, 1925USD out of pocket. With this promo as a SPG Gold I will earn 30975 from the double points (177*5*35) and 8750 for the 250 points a night, totaling 39725 points for the stay. Looked around and seem like the consensus is that SPG points are worth around 2 cents each? Then 39725 points is around 794.50USD in… Read more »
fyi- if you go on sheraton macau’s site and click on offers you can find some other unique deals that don’t pop up by default when you search. that might bring down the 177usd rate maybe? alternatively, have you considered the possibility of a BRG? look on kayak to see if sheraton macau is pricing cheaper on a 3rd party website for the duration of your stay. if they are, Starwood will either match that 3rd party rate + 2k starpoints, or will give you 20% off that rate. but yes, if not your math is pretty sound. 2 cents… Read more »
