First things first- The Milelion is not rebranding as The Kilometiger, and I am deeply apologetic for/amused by any undue distress this may have caused. But Hilton is offering a status match and that’s no joke.
From now till the 30th of June 2016 you can go to this link and fill out a status match request. You need to submit proof of status (Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number) and a screenshot of activity (at least 1 stay should be reflected in the account, presumably to stop people who got status from credit cards
Which programs will be matched? The following are explicitly stated but there is an “others” category which leads me to believe they will approve other programs on a case by case basis
- Starwood Preferred Guest
- Marriott Rewards
- IHG Rewards
- Hyatt Gold Passport
- Choice Privileges
I assume this will be a tier to tier match, so SPG Platinums can expect Hilton Diamond
In my opinion, there really isn’t any incremental benefit of having Hilton Gold over Hilton Diamond (both get free breakfast, free premium internet, space-available upgrades), but I suppose the higher the better. Hilton Diamond got us some additional drinks vouchers at the Conrad Koh Samui
There is a great opportunity to combine this with the 1 stay SPG Gold offer by World Mastercard to get status with both SPG and Hilton mid-tier status.
SPG Platinum will match to HH Diamond – I just did it last week.
In December last year I was SPG Gold and was matched to HH Gold. Last month I got to SPG Platinum so I thought why not try my luck and match the same account again. It worked and I got upgraded from Gold to Diamond, no questions asked.

Hi, I am newbie when it comes to hotel rewards card. I usually stay at service apartments. However, I am going to Rome in September and will be staying at Marriot. Any advice on what is the fastest way to climb up the rewards ladder and hopefully stay there? Thank you.

but seriously there isn’t any fast way to marriott status (versus hilton gold or spg gold). your best bet is to do a status challenge. here are the details for the gold challenge from a reddit thread
After you have completed the six paid stays, your account will be upgraded to Gold through January 2017. If you are not able to complete the required stays during the challenge, your account will remain at your current Elite level. You will need to earn the qualifying number of Elite nights during 2016 in order to maintain this status for all of 2017. As a reminder, members need 10 Elite nights to achieve the Silver Elite level, 50 Elite nights for the Gold Elite level, and 75 Elite nights for the Platinum Elite level.

great stuff! I’d argue that no one really needs HH diamond given that hilton doesn’t really upgrade elites and gold has many of the benefits that diamond has
