KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes for April 2018 released

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes is back- book by 31 March, fly by 30 April.

Singapore Airlines releases a list of discounted KrisFlyer redemption awards to select destinations every month called “Spontaneous Escapes“. These discounted awards are going at a 30% discount compared to their normal redemption cost.

It’s now the middle of March and they have just released the list for April. You need to book by 31 March, and travel between 1-30 April.

As always, remember that tickets booked under the Spontaneous Escapes promotion are non-changeable and non-cancellable. This is unlike regular award tickets which at least allow you to refund your booking for a penalty fee. Thus, your travel plans have to be very firm before taking advantage of this promotion.

More city pairs included for April

The list for March was quite anemic, where there were very few holiday destinations on offer. The April list however, is much much better. For starters, they have included Bali, Hong Kong and Bangkok for discounted redemption. Moving further from Asia, Dusseldorf still remains on this list since its inception. I guess they’re probably flying close to empty on this route. Mind you, it’s operated by their A350 aircraft with the 2013 business class product. Frankfurt is on offer too, albeit in economy class.

As with their March discounted list, flights to Sydney on their spanking new A380 are still on offer. i.e SQ221 and SQ232. Do keep a look out for a review of the new Suites and Business Class product by the boss man himself, Aaron, in the coming weeks. A quick check with KVS and a check on SQ’s booking engine shows that space can still be found on certain days in April and that the flight is still operated with the new A380.

Moving on to their sister airline SilkAir, the list is actually quite impressive compared to what was on offer in March. Koh Samui is on offer (and we all know how ridiculously priced tickets to Koh Samui are) , so is Bali and Phuket. Also, for the AV geeks out there, SilkAir flies their (relatively) brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 to Darwin, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Cairns which are being offered in their April list of discounted awards.

Keep in mind that SilkAir’s business class product on their 737 MAX 8 is still laid out in a 2-2 recliner configuration. If only they can someday adopt a configuration similar to that of what Qatar uses on their A320.

Concluding Thoughts

It’s always nice to see the list being so long again. Sadly, the blackout dates that apply largely covers the upcoming long weekends of Good Friday as well as Labour Day (well if you stretch your holiday to 1st week of May that is). But I mean that should be expected. Sadly, flights to Hong Kong are only available for redemption in economy (poor you).

It’s interesting to see SQ221 and SQ232 being on offer yet again at discounted rates and the inclusion of Dusseldorf yet again in the list would only imply that there is always space to be found on that route.
