Finnair flights are now available for redemption on Alaska Mileage Plan

60,000 miles for one way business class between Singapore and Europe.

Alaska Mileage Plan is regarded as one of the better frequent flyer programs on the market right now.ย Some of the good use cases of Alaska Mileage Plan are for the redemption of a ‘return’ Business Class flight on JAL to Japan and also for Cathay Pacific awards to Europe and theย United States.

Finnair has been a partner of Alaska Mileage Plan for quite some time but you could only credit miles from Finnair flights to Alaska Mileage Plan and not perform redemption on Finnair with Alaska Mileage Plan miles. However, you are now able to use Alaska Mileage Plan miles for a redemption flight with Finnair.

Fly Business Class from Singapore to Europe with 60,000 Alaska Miles one-way

You are able to search for flights on Finnair on Alaska’s website like how you would search for flights on other airline partners such as JAL and Emirates.

Similar to how you would go about searching for award space on JAL, it is recommended that you use British Airways Executive Club or Qantas Frequent Flyer to locate award space on Finnair before heading over to Alaska Mileage Plan’s award search engine.

For flights between Singapore to Helsinki, you will need to fork out 60,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles for the one-way flight in Business Class. For flight redemptions in Economy Class, you will require 32,500 Alaska Mileage Plan miles. The taxes which you will be charged is actually very low at USD47.

If Helsinki isn’t your final destination, adding a segment within Europe will still give you a price of 32,500 Alaska Mileage Plan miles for a one-way flight in Economy Class and 60,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles for a one-way flight in Business Class. Taxes are very reasonable at approximately USD70 one-way.

If you are looking at redeeming a flight to the US, Alaska Mileage Plan doesn’t actually let you see Finnair flights on the search engine when your origin is from Singapore and your final destination is in the US even though there is award space.

However, if you start your journey from Beijing or New Delhi for example, you will be able to see flights on Finnair on the search engine through to the US at a cost of 125,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles one-way in Business Class.ย That’s a very high price to pay especially since we can get lower redemption rates through KrisFlyer or Asia Miles.

Finnair flies their A350-900 between Singapore and Helsinki with Business Class laid out in a 1-2-1 configuration in a reverse herringbone style and Economy Class is in a 3-3-3 configuration.

You can purchase Alaska Mileage Plan miles during sales to redeem on Finnair

Alaska Mileage Plan frequently has sales where it offers a public bonus of up to 40% of purchased miles. During these sales, you are able to purchase Alaska Mileage Plan miles for as low as 2.11 US Cents each. If you do purchase miles during these sales at a 40% bonus, you are looking at paying these amounts for one-way redemption flights on Finnair to Europe:

  • Economy Class – USD685.75 (approx SGD960)
  • Business Class – USD1,266 (approx SGD1,772.40)

Personally, I will not purchase Alaska Mileage Plan miles for a redemption flight to Europe on Finnair as these prices are on the high side. You can easily find revenue fares hovering around SGD3,500 – SGD4,000 during sales that airlines hold from time to time.

Concluding Thoughts

It’s great to see more redemption partners that are being added to Alaska Mileage Plan and hopefully we’ll see Singapore Airlines being one of the redemption partners of Alaska Mileage Plan.
