Hilton has been one of the few hotel chains that have consistently been offering a Status Match program throughout the years. I personally took advantage of this status match promotion back in 2018 and have managed to secure Hilton Honors Diamond status until March 2020. Louis has given his thoughts about the value of Hilton Honors Diamond status and you can have a read of it below:
4 stays to maintain Gold, 8 stays to maintain Diamond
In the status match offer, you must have an equivalent elite status tier in a competing hotel loyalty program. For instance, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Le Club Accor Gold, etc. There are two different status match offers which are available:
If you are matched to Hilton Honors Gold status, you will be able to enjoy Hilton Honors Gold for 90 days and maintain it until March 2021 if you are able to make a total of 4 stays (paid/award) in the 90-day window of which you got matched. If you have been granted Hilton Honors Diamond status, you will also get to enjoy the benefits of Hilton Honors Diamond immediately. To maintain it through March 2021, you will need to complete 8 stays within the 90-day window from which you have been matched.
These are the programs which are available for matching to Hilton Honors:
If you are looking at only getting matched to Hilton Honors Gold, I will strongly recommend the Hilton Honors Fast Track to Gold promotion by Visa instead (register by 31 July 2019). You will only need two stays within 90 days of registering and your status will also be valid until March 2021. I find that Hilton Honors Gold is a great status to hold as it will grant you complimentary breakfast which is a great benefit in my opinion.
The other alternative is to apply for the AMEX Platinum Charge which gives you complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status as long as you hold the card.
For those of you who are holding on to the complimentary GHA Black status courtesy of your World Elite Mastercard, you will be disappointed to know that Hilton will not match this to Hilton Honors Diamond or even Honors Gold. Previously, it could be done but I’m guessing that things have changed over at Hilton corporate and they are now not allowing status matches to GHA due to the difference in requirements to qualify for GHA Black.
If you currently hold elite status in a program other than Hilton and have several Hilton stays coming up, I would recommend applying for a status match. Even if you do not want to maintain the status, at least you will still be able to enjoy the benefits of it for your upcoming stays for 90 days.
