Excellent rate: Marriott Tang Plaza staycation from just $198 nett

Enjoy a sub-S$200 rate at the Marriott Tang Plaza during weekdays, with breakfast included. Stack with the AMEX staycation offer for extra savings.

If you’ve been looking to do a staycation at the Marriott Tang Plaza, here’s what I think is a pretty great deal.

TANGS Members (i.e anyone, since it’s free to join) can now book a staycation package at the Marriott Tang Plaza from as little as S$198 nett per night, with some nice extras included. This can even be stacked with the ongoing American Express staycation offer for extra savings.

These bookings can be made directly on the Marriott website by using the promo code SUM in the corporate/promotional code box.

Do note that these are “from” rates, and on the weekends (Friday, Saturday & Sunday arrivals), you can expect to pay upwards of S$228++ (S$268 nett). However, there’s plenty of S$168++ (S$198 nett) availability for Mondays to Thursdays, so if you’re able to take leave, you’ll be rewarded accordingly.

There’s another catch to take note of: the S$168++ rate is only for 1 person. Adding a second guest increases the cost to S$188++. It’s still a good deal, but quite sneaky of them, given the SOP for hotels is to advertise the price assuming double occupancy.

These rates require prepayment in full at the time of booking, and cannot be refunded if cancelled more than 24 hours after booking. They are eligible to earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite status credit.

Stack with AMEX Staycation Offer for extra savings

American Express is currently offering staycation statement credits at various hotel chains, including Marriott. This is valid for payments made by 8 November 2020, so there’s still some time left (remember: even if your stay date is after 8 November, all that matters is when your card is charged, and since this is a prepaid rate, you just need to book by 8 November).

Under the Marriott offer, spending at least S$400 in one or more transactions gets you a S$100 statement credit. You won’t hit that with the room rate alone, but you can always top-up by spending at any of the following F&B outlets:

  • Crossroads
  • Marriott Cafe
  • Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant
  • Lobby Lounge
  • Java+

What’s the staycation experience like at Marriott Tang Plaza now?

The Marriott Tang Plaza has reopened for staycation guests for a while already, and all facilities are operating as per normal (or as normal as can be right now).

The Executive Lounge is open for M Club and Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador elite guests. It does not serve breakfast (that’s done in the Marriott Cafe), but it does have a very generous 4 hour long cocktail hour in the evenings.

Breakfast is served a la carte buffet style (menu here) at the Marriott Cafe, with unlimited portions.

A couple of Phase 2 reviews of the Marriott Tang Plaza can be found here:

Conclusion

A sub-S$200 rate for the Marriott Tang Plaza is really attractive in my book, especially if you’ve got Platinum status or higher. A four-hour happy hour in the evening will let you imbibe to your heart’s content, and the rooms don’t look as old as I feared.

It’s significantly cheaper than the other staycation deals currently on offer at the hotel, and a great choice if you like the neighbourhood.

I believe the $168++ rate is only for 1 pax (it is quite explicitly stated in the T&Cs that breakfast is only for 1 pax). Making a reservation for 2 pax, raises the price to $188++.

Yes. + taxes it will be around 225 per room per night. It’s still worth it with Amex deal if not….

Pat

Don’t be misled by the pictures. I made use of a similar Citi Prestige promo, the room was quite old.

Nicki

Stayed with the Citi Prestige promo and got a Titanium upgrade to the Premier suite. The property is definitely leaps and bounds better than Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons, Hilton…

Can confirm for elite member benefit? Thanks

In what scenario would you get to book a Member Blissful Escapes package? Can’t seem to find it
