16-18 Oct: HSBC offering great staycation deals on Shangri-La Valley Wing & St Regis (plus 20% off Agoda)

HSBC’s monthly weekend staycation sale is back again.

From 16-18 October 2020, HSBC cardholders will enjoy 20% off Agoda bookings, and special rates at The Fullerton Hotel, Shangri-La, St Regis, and W Sentosa Cove. 

HSBC Revolution cardholders will also be able to earn 4 mpd on their hotel bookings, as part of the card’s new features that kicked in on 1 August 2020. For a full review of the new-and-improved HSBC Revolution, check out this post.

20% off Agoda staycation bookings

HSBC cardholders currently receive 12% off staycations booked with Agoda, a benefit that runs through the end of 2020. 

However, from 16-18 October 2020, the discount will be increased to 20%. All stays must be completed by 31 December 2020; you’ll need to make bookings via this link and pay with a HSBC credit card. 

HSBC x Agoda promotion

This offer only applies to “promotion eligible” hotels, for rates that are fully paid for online. “Promotion eligible” hotels can be identified by a tag on their listing. 

Once you’ve chosen a “promotion eligible” hotel, be sure to book a “promotion eligible” rate too. Remember: any rate which you pay at the hotel is not eligible; you’ll need to pay online via Agoda.

Fullerton Hotel from S$350 nett

Details

This is exactly the same deal that HSBC offered for Fullerton Hotel last month, but with a higher cap. From 16-18 October, HSBC cardholders can book 1 night in a Heritage Room for S$297++ (S$350 nett). This includes: 

• Breakfast for 2 people
• S$100 F&B credit

This rate is only available to the first 100 bookings. The 101st booking onwards will pay S$314++ (S$370 nett), with breakfast and S$80 of F&B credits. 

Good deal?

I personally don’t think this is that great a deal, considering how in August it was possible to book a Courtyard Room with breakfast and S$80 of F&B credits for S$299 nett.

You’re now paying S$51 more for an additional S$20 F&B credit and a higher-category room (note that I didn’t say “bigger”- even though Heritage Rooms are in a higher category than Courtyard Rooms, the former are 34-58 sqm while the latter are 42 sqm).

Shangri-La Hotel Singapore from S$297 nett

Details

From 16-18 October, HSBC cardholders can book a Family Package with 1 night in a Garden Wing Deluxe Room for S$252++ (S$297 nett). This includes: 

•  Daily breakfast for 2 adults + 2 children aged 12 & below
• Access to buds by Shangri-La daily
• Access to Splash Zone throughout the stay
• Complimentary parking

This is valid for the first 50 customers; the 51st onwards will pay S$295++ (S$347 nett). 

However, the deal I’ve got my eye on is for the Valley Wing. From 16-18 October, HSBC cardholders can pay S$452++ (S$532 nett) for 1 night in a Valley Wing Deluxe Room with the following benefits:

• Daily breakfast for 2 adults at the exclusive Summit Room
• Valley Wing Benefits which includes complimentary free-flow champagne throughout the day, afternoon tea and evening cocktails
• 30% off massage treatments at Chi, The Spa (Applicable for 60 minutes massage treatments only, not applicable for facials)
• Complimentary parking

This is valid for the first 50 customers; the 51st onwards will pay S$495++ (S$583 nett). These are not valid for stays with check-ins on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Good Deal?

The Family Package this month is cheaper than what we saw last month, where the rate for the first 50/subsequent customers was S$356/406 nett. 

If you’re within the first 50 customers for the Valley Wing package, you save about S$60 from the regular mid-week rates. I’ve been itching to try the Valley Wing experience, so this may be my chance.

• S$100 worth of dining credits
• One complimentary parking during your stay

This rate is only available to the first 50 bookings. The 51st booking onwards will have to pay S$399++ (S$470 nett)

Good Deal?

Yes, I’d say so. If you take the F&B credits at face value, the first 50 customers pay S$319 nett for a Grand Deluxe Room with breakfast- way below the price on the official website.

W Singapore Sentosa Cove from S$505 nett

From 16-18 October, HSBC cardholders can book 1 night in a Wonderful Room for S$429++ (S$505 nett). This includes:

• S$100 F&B or spa credit
• Free parking

This rate is only available to the first 50 bookings. The 51st booking onwards will have to pay the best available rate.

Good Deal?

Nope nope nope. Last month the same package cost S$349++ (S$411 nett) for the first 50. Heck, even if you were outside the first 50, you’d pay S$399++ (S$470 nett). This month they’ve hiked the rate to at least S$505 nett without adding any new benefits. 

Forget it.

This staycation sale represents a great opportunity for new HSBC Revolution cardholders to accumulate spending towards their sign-up bonus.

As a reminder, cardholders who spend at least S$800 by the end of the month following approval will receive either S$150 cashback, or a Samsonite Prestige 69cm Spinner bag.

Conclusion

HSBC is bringing back its usual 20% off for Agoda, but more interesting to me are the deals for St Regis and Shangri-La. I’ve been told the Valley Wing is quite a special experience (and with all-day champagne, how could it not?), so I’ve got my eye on this one.

Since these bookings are made directly with the hotels, they should qualify for hotel points, elite status benefits and elite status credit where applicable.
