Shangri-La Golden Circle offering 50% off award nights

Expired

From now till 22 April 2022, book and enjoy award nights at Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts worldwide at 50% off the usual prices.

From now till 22 April 2022, Shangri-La’s Golden Circle loyalty programme is offering 50% off all award nights at Shangri-La, Kerry, Hotel Jen and Traders hotels worldwide, with no exclusions or minimum stay required.

Award nights start from just 500 points, although the ongoing travel restrictions will make it difficult to actually stay in a property at that price point.

Golden Circle members can now save 50% off all Standard Rooms, Club Rooms and Executive Suites booked and stayed by 22 April 2022. No registration is required; the discounted price will automatically appear when making an award booking.

Reservations can be made through the Golden Circle website, Shangri-La mobile app or Golden Circle members services, and blackout dates apply. As a reminder, here’s the Golden Circle award redemption chart:

Award Prices (before 50% discount)
Collection Standard Club Suite
A 1,000 2,000 3,000
B 2,000 3,500 5,500
C 3,500 5,000 7,000
D 5,000 7,000 9,000
E 6,500 8,500 12,000
F 9,500 14,000 20,000
G 20,000 N/A 45,000
List of hotels by Collection

The only two properties in Singapore currently taking public reservations are:

  • Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa (Collection D)
  • Shangri-La Singapore (Collection E)

Interestingly, it seems the Shangri-La Singapore is using the Valley Wing Deluxe Room (4,250 pts/night) as its club category (which makes sense, since the Tower Wing and Tower Club are closed for SHNs), and the Garden Wing One-Bedroom Suite (6,000 pts/night) as its suite category.

Even with the 50% off, I still think you’d do better by booking a staycation package, since those typically come with additional inclusions like breakfast, hotel credits and late check-out.

Shangri-La Paris

This promotion has the potential to get a whole lot more interesting if more European countries or Canada get added to the VTL:

  • Shangri-La Paris is a Collection G (10,000 pts/night)
  • Shangri-La Toronto and Vancouver are Collection E (3,250 pts/night)

What else can you use Golden Circle points for?

If you don’t have a critical mass of points for a redemption, you can still redeem them for F&B credit at Shangri-La hotel restaurants. The regular rate is 10 GC points= US$1, but Jade and Diamond members enjoy 25% more value.

  Gold Jade Diamond
Value per 10 GC points  US$1 US$1.25 US$1.25
Shangri-La offers two different redemption options for F&B credit. The first is a fixed value certificate of US$50/$100 for 500/1,000 points. The second is through The Table, which lets you spend points at US$1 (or US$1.25 for Jade/Diamond) per 10 points. The latter is obviously much more flexible, and offers better value to Jade/Diamond members.

Shangri-La is extending Golden Circle status

Shangri-La recently announced that it will be extending the status of all Jade and Diamond members worldwide till 31 December 2022, regardless of qualifying activity in 2021. This is great news, particularly for those who obtained their status through the AMEX Platinum Charge or Centurion (since the perk lapsed earlier this year).

Conclusion

Shangri-La Golden Circle members can book and enjoy award stays at 50% off till 22 April 2022, which gives plenty of time to make some staycation (not recommended) or (hopefully) overseas plans. Given how valuable Golden Circle points are, it’s just a shame there’s no easy way of earning them through credit cards.

A 50% discount on awards is certainly generous, although the richest ever promotion we saw for Golden Circle was a 60% discount back in July 2020.
