Singapore Airlines offering complimentary Wi-Fi to all passengers

From now till 31 March 2022, all SIA passengers will enjoy a complimentary 2-hour Wi-Fi package, on top of existing allowances.

If you’re flying with Singapore Airlines from now till 31 March 2022, you’re in for a little treat.

Singapore Airlines will be offering two hours of complimentary Wi-Fi access to all passengers on any of its Wi-Fi enabled aircraft. This basically covers the entire fleet, except for the B737-800 NGs which ply some of the regional routes (not to be confused with the new B737-8s, which do have Wi-Fi).

A simple way to tell if your flight has Wi-Fi is to look out for the symbol next to the flight number, as shown below.

Complimentary Wi-Fi for all passengers

From now till 31 March 2022, all Singapore Airlines passengers will receive a complimentary 2-hour Wi-Fi package, regardless of cabin.

[LIMITED TIME] Surf the web and stay connected with your loved ones with two hours of complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi on our Wi-Fi enabled aircraft from now until 31 March 2022! This complimentary plan can be found within the Purchase Access / Promo Plans tab and is in addition to the complimentary plans offered for Suites, First Class, Business Class, PPS or KrisFlyer members.

Complimentary packages are offered by sector, which means that if you have a flight with a stopover (e.g. SIN-FRA-JFK), you’ll receive one package on each leg.

This 2-hour Wi-Fi package is offered on top of any existing complimentary plans for premium cabin and PPS/KrisFlyer members, as summarised below.

  PPS KrisFlyer Non-KrisFlyer
Suites/First ← Unlimited Wi-Fi →
Business ← 100MB →
Premium Economy/ Economy 100MB 2-hour chat session* N/A
*To enjoy this allowance, your KrisFlyer membership number must be entered at the time of booking or during check-in. It’s too late to add it once you’re on the plane.

To illustrate, a KrisFlyer member flying in Economy would enjoy:

  • 1x 2-hour Wi-Fi package (with connection speeds sufficient for regular internet surfing)
  • 1x 2-hour chat session (with connection speeds sufficient for text-only messaging)

This complimentary plan can be found within the Purchase Access / Promo Plans tab, as shown below:

Once complimentary allowances are exhausted, you can purchase additional plans at the following prices:

Plan Cost Allowance
Chat US$3.99 2 hours
Pro US$9.99 100MB
Premium US$15.99 200MB
Surf US$15.99 3 hours*
*Only available on certain aircraft

If you have a Boingo subscription, you’ll also be able to enjoy unlimited inflight Wi-Fi provided your aircraft uses Panasonic’s Wi-Fi system.

Alternatively, M1, Singtel and StarHub customers can enjoy unlimited data roaming with AeroMobile and OnAir at the following rates:

  • Singtel: S$29 for 24 hours
  • M1 / StarHub: S$25 per day (valid until midnight Singapore time)

I suppose the natural concern is whether increased utilisation of inflight Wi-Fi will lead to degraded performance for all. We’ll have to see, but speeds have never been fantastic in any case.

Conclusion

From now till 31 March 2022, all Singapore Airlines passengers will enjoy at least 2 hours of free Wi-Fi, enabling them to keep in touch with loved ones on the ground, get work done and leave angry comments on the Straits Times Facebook page.

This stacks with whatever free allowances you’re normally entitled to, so don’t forget to make full use of them!
