It’s been a while since the last GrabRewards Flash Sale (or maybe I’ve just not been paying attention), but Grab has now launched a 30% pointsback sale on selected rewards that runs from now till 14 January 2022 (or while stocks last).
This sale can be accessed through the rewards section of the Grab app.
Get 30% pointsback on selected redemptions
GrabRewards users who redeem the following rewards up till 14 January 2022 will receive a 30% points rebate.
Voucher | Regular Price | Flash Sale Price |
3 months HBO Go subscription | 7,350
S$20 Coinhako | 7,000 | |
S$20 Lazada | 7,000 | |
S$10 Qoo10 | 3,500 | |
S$10 Razer Gold | 3,500 | |
S$10 ZALORA | 3,500 | |
S$10 Ezbuy | 3,500 | |
XXL Chicken | 1,770 | |
S$5 Giant | 1,750 |
Some of these rewards are currently listed as “sold out”, but based on past experience, they may be restocked. It’s worth checking back now and then, if you see something you really like.
Note that this is a rebate, not a discount– you can’t redeem a 2,500 points voucher if you have 2,000 points, for example, notwithstanding the fact the nett cost of the voucher is actually 1,750 points (70% of 2,500).
The 30% pointsback is credited instantly to your GrabRewards balance with no action required from you. Limited redemptions are available for each of these rewards; the cap can be found under the individual item’s T&Cs.
Is it worth it?
A 30% pointsback sale is slightly weaker than what we usually see; here’s some past data points for comparison:
- Aug 2021: 35% pointsback on selected rewards
- July 2021: 25% pointsback on selected rewards
- June 2021: 35% pointsback on selected rewards
- May 2021: 35% pointsback on selected rewards
It’s all good and well if you have a big stash of points you’ve been meaning to cash out, but otherwise, you might want to wait till a future sale.
How are GrabRewards points awarded?
As a reminder, here’s how many GrabRewards points you’ll earn, depending on your membership tier and method of payment.
Points per S$1 Spent |
|||
Member Tier | GrabPay Wallet | Credit/ Debit Card | Cash |
Member | 3 | 1 | 0 |
Silver | 3 | 1 | 0 |
Gold | 4.5 | 1.5 | 0 |
Platinum | 6 | 2 | 0 |
GrabPay wallet balances can now be cashed out to a bank account, provided the balance wasn’t topped up via a credit card. Believe it or not, there’s still a handful of cards out there offering rewards for GrabPay top-ups:
๐ณ Cards for GrabPay Top-Ups
Card | Earn Rate | Remarks |
AMEX SIA Business Card Apply |
1.8 mpd | Only for owners of SMEs |
AMEX True Cashback Card Apply |
1.5% cashback | No cap |
UOB Absolute Cashback Card Apply |
1.7% cashback | No cap |
Conclusion
I typically redeem STAR$ during these flash sales for greater flexibility, but they’re not available during this sale so I might sit it out.
1 GrabRewards point is normally worth 0.2 cents, but with the 30% pointsback you’re effectively getting 0.29 cents per point with these rewards.
