KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card offering 12,000 miles sign-up bonus

From now till 31 July, get 12,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles with a new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card and S$1,500 spend in the first 30 days.

UOB has launched a new sign-up bonus for the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card, which offers new-to-bank customers 12,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles with S$1,500 spend.

In a welcome change from UOB’s regular “gotcha” sign-up bonuses, there’s no cap on the number of eligible applicants. So long as you meet the eligibility criteria, you’ll get the bonus.

KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card 12,000 miles sign-up bonus

First-time applicants of the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card already enjoy 3,000 KrisFlyer miles when they charge their first transaction of at least S$5.

From now till 31 July 2022, new-to-bank KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card cardholders will enjoy a further 9,000 KrisFlyer miles when they spend at least S$1,500 within the first 30 days of approval.

❓ New-to-bank
New-to-bank customers are defined as those who do not currently hold a principal UOB credit card, and have not cancelled one within the past 6 months prior to 1 July 2022.

As mentioned, there is no cap on the number of eligible applicants. So long as you meet the other eligibility criteria, you will receive the 9,000 KrisFlyer miles.

The full T&C for this offer can be found here.

When will I receive the bonus miles?

The 3,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles from first spend will be credited to your linked KrisFlyer account in the following month after the transaction is made. For example, someone who makes their first spend in July can expect the miles to be credited in August.

The 9,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles will be credited to your linked KrisFlyer account by 31 October 2022, assuming you meet the eligibility criteria.

What counts as qualifying spend?

A minimum of S$1,500 in qualifying spend must be spent in the first 30 days of approval. Eligible transactions include all retail transactions in local or foreign currency, and a full list of exclusions can be found here.

The key exclusions to highlight are:

  • Charitable donations
  • Education
  • Government payments
  • Hospitals
  • Insurance
  • Prepaid account top-ups (e.g. GrabPay or YouTrip)
  • Utilities (even though you will continue to earn base points on these transactions until 1 August 2022)

Do note that UOB$ transactions are also considered as excluded transactions. It’s unclear whether UOB meant to say “transactions where you redeem UOB$ in lieu of payment” or “transactions where you earn UOB$”. If it’s the latter, then spending at places like Giant, Cold Storage, Guardian or any UOB$ merchant will not count. But in any case, you should be using other cards at such places!

All spending on supplementary cards will be pooled with the principal card when determining if the minimum spend has been met.

Conclusion

New-to-bank customers can get 12,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles with a new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card and S$1,500 spend, for applications till 31 July 2022.

This is an attractive deal in and of itself (especially since there’s no customer cap), but if you really wanted to maximise this, I’d recommend leveraging your new-to-bank status to apply for a UOB PRVI Miles Card, which has a similar 12,000 miles sign-up bonus.

That’s because the 3,000 miles first-spend bonus on the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card does not require you to be new-to-bank, and therefore a new-to-bank customer who signs up for the UOB PRVI Miles Card first and then the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card could take home 15,000 bonus miles in total (remember: your new-to-bank status only applies to your first card application).

Otherwise, it’s good to see UOB running some no cap sign-up bonuses. Long may the trend continue!
