It looks like Citibank has decided to go big with its sign-up bonuses. Having launched improved offers for new Citi Prestige and Citi PremierMiles cardholders, it’s also dangling a carrot for the excellent Citi Rewards Card.

T&Cs |
From 1 August to 31 October 2022, new Citi Rewards cardholders will receive 40,000 ThankYou points (equivalent to 16,000 miles) when they:
- Apply online for a Citi Rewards Card by 31 October 2022
- Get approved within 30 days from application
- Spend at least S$800 on eligible transactions within the first 2 months of approval (see next section for definitions)
Bonus points are on top of the regular base earn rate, and the best way to maximise this is to clock all your S$800 spend on the Citi Rewards’ 10X categories.
❓ What are 10X categories? |
Eligible 10X categories include all spending at online merchants (excluding travel), and offline spending at merchants with the following MCCs:
|
To illustrate, if you spend the S$800 entirely on 10X categories, you’ll receive a total of 48,000 ThankYou points, broken down as follows:
- 8,000 ThankYou points for spending S$800 online (@ 10 points/S$1)
- 40,000 ThankYou points for meeting the minimum spend
That’s equivalent to 19,200 miles.
What counts as qualifying spending?
Successful applicants must spend S$800 within the first 2 months of approval, otherwise known as the qualifying period.
The qualifying period for meeting the minimum spend runs from the approval date and two full calendar months following that. For example, those approved on 14 July 2022 will have until 30 September 2022 to meet the minimum spend.
In other words, you actually have 2-3 months to hit the minimum spend, and should apply as early in the month as possible to stretch that period.
Qualifying spend excludes the following:
❌ Qualifying Spend Exclusions |
(i) any Equal Payment Plan (EPP) purchases, (ii) refunded/disputed/unauthorised/fraudulent retail purchases, (iii) Quick Cash and other instalment loans, (iv) Citi PayLite/Citi Flexibill/cash advance/quasi-cash transactions/balance transfers/annual card membership fees/interest/goods and services taxes, (v) bill payments made using the Eligible Card as a source of funds, (vi) late payment fees and (vii) any other form of service/ miscellaneous fees |
For avoidance of doubt, Citi PayAll transactions will count towards the minimum spend.
When will the miles be credited?
The 40,000 ThankYou points will be credited within three calendar months from the end of the minimum spend period.
What can you do with ThankYou points?
Citi ThankYou points are extremely flexible, with a total of 11 different transfer partners to choose from.
Points can be transferred to miles in blocks of 25,000 Thank You points (10,000 miles). There are some great sweet spots with programmes like Etihad Guest, British Airways Executive Club, and Turkish Miles&Smiles. Even the newly-revitalised Qatar Privilege Club might be a good bet (but heads up: they’ve sneakily reintroduced award segment fees!)

Transfers cost a flat S$26.75. Citibank does not pool points across cards, so if you have both a Citi Prestige and Citi Rewards, you’ll need to pay two conversion fees.

- Dyson Supersonic (worth S$649)
- Samsonite Straren Spinner 67/24 (worth S$600)
- Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones (worth S$569)
- S$350 cash
Existing customers who apply via SingSaver by 7 August 2022 will receive S$30 cash, with no minimum spend required.
Be sure to follow the steps below:
- Apply through this link
- You will be directed to a SingSaver landing page. Enter your email address and click “confirm”
- Complete your application and take a screenshot of the Application Reference Number (for Citibank, it’s 12 alphanumeric characters)
- Fill in the SingSaver rewards form that will be sent to your email. It’s vital you fill in the form– no form, no reward.
For avoidance of doubt, you cannot stack the two offers. You either apply via SingSaver, or via the Citi website.
Is this offer worth it?
Assuming the Citi Prestige is not in the picture because of its income requirement (S$120,000) or hefty annual fee (S$535), you’re pretty much deciding between the Citi Rewards and Citi PremierMiles Card.
Citi Rewards | Citi PremierMiles | |
Annual Fee | Waived | S$192.60 |
Spend | S$800 | S$800 |
Miles | 16,000 | 30,000 |
The Citi Rewards has no annual fee, and your S$800 spend yields 16,000 miles. On the other hand, the Citi PremierMiles requires you to pay a S$192.60 annual fee, but your S$800 spend yields 30,000 miles.
There’s two ways of thinking about the cost per mile. If you look at the Citi PremierMiles in isolation, you’re paying S$192.60 for 30,000 miles, which works out to 0.64 cents per mile. But if you consider the alternative, you’re really paying S$192.60 for 14,000 miles (the difference between the Citi Rewards and Citi PremierMiles), which works out to a less attractive 1.38 cents per mile.
Since you’re only eligible for one offer, you’re going to have to decide whether you just want some “free” miles (in which case go for the Citi Rewards), or if you’re willing to pay a bit out of pocket for a bigger haul (in which case go for the Citi PremierMiles).
Conclusion
New Citi Rewards cardholders can enjoy 16,000 bonus miles with a minimum spend of S$800, without the need to pay an annual fee. If they spend that S$800 on eligible 10X categories (and really, that’s the only acceptable way to use this card), that can yield a total haul of 19,200 miles.
Remember to submit your application by 31 October 2022 if you’re interested, and pair this with your Amaze Card for all overseas spending.
Just a quick question, existing users (CRV) don’t get anything for this sign up right?
