HSBC WOW Weekend: Shangri-La Valley Wing deal and 20% off Agoda bookings

From 10-12 March, enjoy special deals at the Shangri-La Valley Wing and 20% off Agoda hotel bookings with HSBC credit cards.

HSBC has announced its latest set of WOW Weekend staycation deals, which run from 10-12 March 2023.

Bookings go live at midnight tonight (i.e. 12 a.m on Friday 10 March), and there’s only one hotel on offer this time: Shangri-La Valley Wing. That said, it’s also possible to save 20% off Agoda bookings, useful for those of you who don’t pursue hotel loyalty.

HSBC WOW Weekend Sale

All bookings must be made with a HSBC credit card, and I’d highly recommend using the HSBC Revolution to earn 4 mpd, capped at S$1,000 per calendar month.

If you don’t have a HSBC Revolution yet, you can enjoy the following gifts with a minimum spend of S$500 by the end of the month after approval.

HSBC x Shangri-La Deal
Shangri-La Singapore Review

The first 50 bookings will pay S$456.91++ (S$543 nett) for a one-night stay in a Valley Wing Deluxe Room on weekdays, and S$546.91++ (S$650 nett) on weekends.

This comes with all the standard Valley Wing perks, such as breakfast in The Summit Room (a cut above what’s offered at The Line), a free flow of champagne and wine from 12 p.m to 10.30 p.m daily, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

The 51st booking onwards will pay S$499++ (S$593 nett) and S$589++ (S$700 nett) for weekdays and weekends respectively, with the same inclusions.

All bookings are fully prepaid and non-refundable.

This is similar to the WOW Weekend deal we saw in September 2022; the main difference being that GST has increased from 7% to 8%. It’s not the screaming deal we saw during the COVID-era, but anyone who can hold their liquor might find it worthwhile nonetheless.

While the Valley Wing is meant more for couples, I’d rate the overall Shangri-La Singapore as one of the most kid-friendly resorts in Singapore, with a mini water park and a kids club with all-day activities for the younglings.

How to book

All bookings can be made via this link. Do note that the booking link will not go live until midnight tonight.

Hotel review

The Shangri-La Valley Wing is a unique experience to say the least- a hotel within a hotel. Guests have their own private driveway, lobby and lounging areas. You could even go your whole stay without ever mixing with the riffraff elsewhere!

Of course, breakfast at The Summit Room continues to be a major draw with its caviar omelettes and steak & eggs, and you can’t put a price on non-stop champagne all afternoon.

20% off Agoda hotel bookings

HSBC x Agoda promotion

From 10-12 March 2023, HSBC cardholders will receive 20% off worldwide hotel bookings made through Agoda and stayed by 31 July 2023. The discount is capped at S$200 per booking, and only valid for the first 200 bookings.

Historically, the HSBC x Agoda deal was 25% off, and there wasn’t any cap on the savings per booking, nor cap on the total number of bookings. That’s just “nature healing” for you- with demand back to pre-COVID highs, the discounts are being rolled back.

All bookings must be made via this link and paid for with a HSBC credit card. This offer only applies to “promotion eligible” hotels, for rates that are fully paid for online. “Promotion eligible” hotels can be identified by a tag on their listing as shown below.

Once you’ve chosen a “promotion eligible” hotel, be sure to book a “promotion eligible” rate too. Remember: any rate which you pay at the hotel is not eligible; you’ll need to pay online via Agoda.

The discount only applies to the room rate (excluding taxes).

It’s always best practice to comparison shop, because Agoda may not give the best price even after a 20% discount. A meta search engine like Google Hotels or Kayak will help ensure you’re scoring a good deal.

WOW Weekend deals are getting smaller and smaller, though perhaps unsurprising given that Singapore’s reopened borders have led to hotel rates hitting 10-year highs.

There isn’t anything here that screams “must book”, though if you’ve already decided you want a Shangri-La Valley Wing staycation, then this is better than publicly-available rates. Unfortunately, you will have to stay up late tonight if you want to be among the first 50, as the deal must be booked via the official website.

Alternatively, you can enjoy 20% off an Agoda stay, though it comes with more terms and conditions than ever before: capped at S$200, and for the first 200 bookings only.

Be sure to use the HSBC Revolution to get 4 mpd on your hotel stays, capped at S$1,000 per calendar month.
