GHA DISCOVERY promo: Earn up to D$150 on upcoming stays

It’s been a while since the last GHA DISCOVERY promotion, but the “not-quite-a-chain” is back with a new offer: a bonus of up to D$150, with four stays of at least two nights each.

While the first stay goes unrewarded and each stay must be at least two nights, it’s still worth registering for just in case.

Registration

GHA DISCOVERY’s latest promotion is valid for bookings from 1 April to 31 May 2023, with stays from 1 April to 30 September 2023 (your check-out date must be by 30 September 2023). 

Registration is required, and can be done here. 

Bookings made directly through the hotel or the GHA DISCOVERY website will earn up to D$150, split as follows:

• No bonus after first stay
• Earn D$25 after your second stay
• Earn D$50 after your third stay
• Earn D$75 after your fourth stay

No minimum room rate is required, but each stay (including the first) must be a minimum of two nights.  As per the T&Cs of the promotion, registration must be done before bookings are made, so pre-existing bookings will not be eligible. 

Assuming you do the bare minimum necessary to qualify for this promotion, you’re looking at a bonus of D$18.75 per night (D$150/8 nights).

Any D$ earned through this promotion will be valid for six months (as opposed to the usual 6-24 months depending on tier). 

How are D$ earned?

GHA introduced the D$ system in 2021, which replaced the previous “stay 1 earn 1” system of local experiences.

Only stays booked through the GHA website or official hotel websites/channels will be eligible to earn D$. 

As a reminder, D$1= US$1 at GHA properties worldwide, and a minimum of D$10 must be spent in a single transaction.

It’s currently only possible to use D$ during a stay, at the front desk of a hotel. You cannot redeem D$ online, nor can you spend them on F&B or spa treatments when not an in-house guest. GHA says they are working to add such functionality, but there is no timeline yet as to when it’ll be available.

It is possible to use D$ on prepaid stays however, insofar as the hotel doesn’t actually charge your card at the time of booking (you’d be surprised, many “prepaid stays” aren’t actually charged until check-in). My advice would be to contact the hotel beforehand, let them know you want to book a prepaid rate with D$, and ask them how to proceed.

What cards should I use for hotel bookings?

Here’s the cards you can use for GHA DISCOVERY bookings, assuming they’re in foreign currency.

Since the Citi Rewards Card doesn’t award 4 mpd for hotel transactions, pairing it with the Amaze isn’t an option. You can, however, pair the UOB Lady’s Card (with travel selected as your 10X category) with Amaze to earn 6 mpd with minimal FCY fees. 

Conclusion

GHA DISCOVERY is now offering up to D$150 for members who complete four stays of at least two nights each by 30 September 2023. While it’s annoying you don’t earn anything on the first stay, and each stay must be a minimum of two nights, this could be attractive to anyone who plans to hotel hop within a cheap market like Indonesia or Thailand.
