The American Express KrisFlyer Credit Card (colloquially known as the AMEX KrisFlyer Blue) had a quiet 2023; in fact, you need to go back to October 2022 for the last time we had a MileLion welcome offer.
But this first-year free card is starting 2024 with a bang: new-to-AMEX customers can enjoy up to 25,350 bonus miles with a minimum spend of just S$1,500.

This offer is valid for new-to-AMEX customers who apply and receive approval for an AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card between 19 January to 28 February 2024.
โ Definition |
New-to-AMEX customers are defined as those who:
For avoidance of doubt, there is no โtimeout periodโ for a customer with a recently-cancelled card to be considered new (provided that card is not an AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card). However, all approvals are subject to internal review. |
All first-time American Express KrisFlyer cobrand cardholders will enjoy 5,000 miles on their first spend of any amount. This is a once per lifetime bonus, so if youโve held an American Express KrisFlyer cobrand card before, you wonโt receive it a second time.
Cardholders who spend at least S$1,500 within the first two months of approval (defined as 60 calendar days) will receive 20,350 bonus miles.
To summarise the offer, by spending S$1,500 in the first 60 days of approval, you’ll receive 27,000 miles, broken down as follows:
- 5,000 bonus miles for first spend
- 20,350 bonus miles for meeting the S$1,500 minimum spend
- 1,650 base miles for spending S$1,500 @ 1.1 mpd
When will the bonuses be credited?
If you’re eligible for the 5,000 miles bonus for first-time AMEX Singapore Airlines cobrand cardholders, these will be credited to your KrisFlyer account after the month of approval and first spend.
The 20,350 bonus miles for meeting the minimum spend will be credited within 10 weeks of the date you meet the spend threshold.
All questions about fulfilment should be directed to American Express.
Terms & Conditions
What spending is eligible?
American Express provides a list of excluded spending categories here, but the key ones to take note of are:
- Donations
- Education
- GrabPay top-ups
- Insurance
- Public hospitals and polyclinics
- SPC transactions
- Utilities
CardUp, private and non-profit hospitals, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list will count as eligible spend.
All spending on supplementary cards will pool with principal cards when determining whether the minimum spend has been met.
Is it worth it?
The AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card’s first year annual fee of S$179.85 is waived for the first year, so assuming you have S$1,500 of spend to clock, it’s basically free miles.
In fact, on a miles to spend ratio, you’re looking at 16.9 miles per S$1 (25,350 bonus miles divided by S$1,500 minimum spend), which would be one of the highest offers on the market right now.

Cardholder Terms and Conditions |
The AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card has an annual fee of S$178.20, which is waived in the first year (and waivable in the second and subsequent years, subject to approval).
Cardholders earn 1.1 mpd on local spend, and 2 mpd on foreign currency spend in June and December (1.1 mpd otherwise). An uncapped 2 mpd is offered on Singapore Airlines and KrisShop transactions year-round, as well as 3.1 mpd on Grab, capped at S$200 per calendar month. These aren’t the best earn rates on the market, however, and can be easily bested by other alternatives.
AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Cardholders who charge S$12,000 or more (on any miles-earning transaction) between 1 July and 30 June of the following year will receive S$150 cashback, valid on their next purchase of Singapore Airlines air tickets via singaporeair.com or the SingaporeAir mobile app

Conclusion

New-to-AMEX customers who sign up for an AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card can now receive 25,350 bonus miles with a minimum spend of just S$1,500.
While this card doesn’t pack nearly as many benefits as the AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend, it does offer a first year fee waiver, compared to the mandatory S$343.35 annual fee of the latter. This means your bonus miles are essentially free, especially since they’re deposited directly to your KrisFlyer account without any conversion fees.
All in all, a good option for those looking to build their miles balance without incurring fees.
Does ascend count as a “Amex KF credit card”? Wondering if I’m considered ‘new customer’
No – if you already hold any personal AMEX credit card you are no longer “new-to-AMEX”. Exception only applies if you hold the AMEX HiFlyer which is a business card so not counted as personal.
AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card is not the same as AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend.
People who can’t read and process info really don’t deserve to benefit from the miles game.
Is it only specific to holding a AMEX (KrisFlyer) card? I cancelled the Amex Tru Cashback Card in the last 6 mths, do I still qualify as new?
The tnc states that IF you do not currently hold any AMEX card after these 6 months AND you did not cancel this Krisflyer card less than 1 year ago, you are good to go
What is the definition of consumer card? Does AMEX Platinum counts as consumer card?
does the exclusion on utilities only cover water/gas/power or also include the telcos?
utilities are not the same as telcos

Amex โforgotโ that itโs a leap year? ๐
I was curious about that too. Apparently it’s an IT issue
If I spend the initial S$1,500 on Singapore Airlines, would I clock the 2mpd (and in essence earn more than the 27000miles) , or would it be only the base rate of 1.1mpd as part of the signup offer?
no, you will earn 2 mpd. the calculations here assume general local spending @ 1.1 mpd.
thanks for clarifying Aaron
Will an atome payment count towards eligible spend? I noted in the t&c that instalment plans don’t count. Not sure if Amex views it as an instalment payment?
A tricky one here,
Will 8099: Health Practitioners, Medical services- Not Elsewhere ClassifiedDoctor Anywhere, Eu Yan Sang TCM Clinic, HealthHub, count towards the minimum spend required?
can i check the spending required is $500 or $1500? it states differently in Amex website when clicked Apply Now. thanks
