Singapore Airlines offering 50% bonus KrisFlyer miles for flights

Book by 10 February and travel from 1 July to 30 November 2024 to earn a 50% bonus on Singapore Airlines flights, capped at 5,000 miles.

February 2024 marks 25 years of the KrisFlyer programme, and to celebrate the occasion, Singapore Airlines has lined up a wide range of promos and offers.

One particularly eye-catching promotion is the offer of 50% bonus miles on Singapore Airlines flights, regardless of destination or fare class.

There is a cap of 5,000 bonus miles per segment, unfortunately, but the good news is that it’s impossible to trigger the cap if you’re flying in Economy, or most Premium Economy fare buckets and routes.

50% bonus miles for Singapore Airlines flights

Earn an extra 50% KrisFlyer miles on all commercial Singapore Airlines fares

Here’s the key details of the 50% bonus KrisFlyer miles offer for Singapore Airlines flights:

  • Flights must be booked from 1-10 February 2024
  • Date of travel must fall between 1 July to 30 November 2024 (with travel completed by 30 November 2024)
  • Tickets must be purchased via singaporeair.com or the SIA mobile app
  • Travel must be on flights operated by Singapore Airlines
  • All commercial fare classes are eligible
  • The offer is capped at 5,000 bonus miles per segment

Note the clause that flights must be operated by Singapore Airlines, so there’s no bonus for Scoot flights, even if those flights are codeshares sold as part of an overall SIA itinerary.

It’s also nice to see that all commercial fare classes are eligible for this offer, since Singapore Airlines usually doesn’t award elite tier bonuses for its cheapest Economy Value and Lite buckets.

I hope I don’t need to remind you that no KrisFlyer miles are earned from redemption bookings, so this is a strictly commercial flights only offer. Also, if you happen to pay for your commercial flight with a mix of cash + miles, the miles earned will be proportional and only in respect of the amount paid for using cash.

When will bonus miles post?

Bonus miles earned under this promotion may take up to four weeks to be credited into your KrisFlyer account, after the relevant travel is completed.

What about that cap?

Unless you’re flying in premium cabins on SIA’s longest routes, it’s unlikely you’ll trigger the cap

There is a cap of 5,000 bonus miles per segment which at first glance seems restrictive, but you’ll only really trigger this on Business and First Class fares- and even then, only on the longest routes.

Here’s how the bonus is calculated:

Bonus Miles awarded are based on the total number of KrisFlyer miles earned from the combination of distance flown and Cabin bonus.

And here’s the accrual rates from Singapore Airlines’ various fare classes.

Cabin Fare Class Accrual Rate
Suites / First A, F 200%
Business
Flexi: Z, C, J 150%
Standard: U 125%
Lite: D 125%
Premium Economy
Flexi: S, T 125%
Standard: L, P 100%
Lite: R 100%
Economy Flexi: B, E, Y 100%
Standard: M, H, W 75%
Value & Lite: Q, N, V, K, G 50%
KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold and Solitaire PPS, PPS Club members earn a 25% elite bonus, on top of the amounts shown above. This bonus does not apply to Economy Value & Economy Lite fares.

As an illustration, consider the example of a KrisFlyer Elite Gold member who flies one-way from SIN-SFO in Economy Standard (H), with 8,440 miles the actual distance flown:

  • ‘H’ Fare class: 6,330 miles (75% x 8,440)
  • Elite bonus: 2,110 miles (25% x 8,440)
  • 50% promotional bonus: 3,165 miles (50% x 6,330)

Notice how the promotional bonus is applied to the 75% accrual that the ‘H’ fare class normally earns, not the actual distance flown.

Now, consider a KrisFlyer Elite Gold member who flies one-way from SIN-SFO in Business Flexi (Z):

  • ‘Z’ Fare class: 12,660 miles (150% x 8,440)
  • Elite bonus: 2,110 miles (25% x 8,440)
  • 50% promotional bonus: 5,000 miles (50% x 12,660, capped at 5,000)

In this case the 5,000 miles cap is triggered.

For what it’s worth, it’s impossible to trigger the cap with any Economy fare, and with Premium Economy Standard and Lite fares. Moreover, even if you’re in First or Business Class, you’d have to be flying on Singapore Airlines’ ultra-long-haul routes to the USA for the cap to come into play.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines passengers can look forward to an extra 50% mileage accrual for tickets booked by 10 February 2024, and flown from 1 July to 30 November 2024.

The bonus is capped at 5,000 miles, but it’ll be quite difficult to hit this cap, unless you’re travelling in First and Business Class on the longest SIA routes.

Don’t forget to use a Mastercard to complete your booking (the DBS WWMC or UOB Lady’s Card with Travel as the quarterly bonus category would be my choices), in order to earn lucky draw chances to win up to one million miles.
