Kris+ cuts earn rates at 12 Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL merchants

Kris+ has cut the earn rates at 12 more restaurant, bar and spa merchants from the Pan Pacific Hotels Group, with rates cut from 6 or 9 mpd to 3 mpd.

Last month, we learned that Kris+ would be cutting earn rates for selected merchants come 1 April 2024. With 15 merchants affected, it was a relatively mild change compared to the last major update in October 2023 (70 merchants), but still affected popular options like Aburi-EN, Bottles & Bottles and CDG ZIG.

Well, 1 April has now come and gone, and it turns out that 15 isn’t the right number. As spotted by Jarrich in the MileChat, 12 more merchants from Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL have cut their earn rates, going from 6 or 9 mpd to just 3 mpd.

Kris+ has published a new consolidated list of merchants, which shows that the following outlets also reduced their earn rates effective 1 April 2024.

Note: In the PDF published on Kris+, Portman’s Bar at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay also shows a cut to 3 mpd, but it still reflects as 9 mpd in the app. Fingers crossed!

All the affected outlets are part of the Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL Group, including restaurants, bars and spas.

However, the cut does not affect all Kris+ partners from the Group. For example, the St Gregory Spa (6 mpd) and Lime Restaurant (9 mpd) at the PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering are unaffected. Also unaffected are the restaurants physically on hotel premises, but not operated by the hotels themselves, such as Si Chuan Dou Hua at PARKROYAL on Beach Road (9 mpd), Sushi Jiro at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay (6 mpd)

As a reminder, these merchants are in addition to the 15 we already knew about, as mentioned in the last article.

Earning miles via Kris+

Kris+ miles can be earned at more than 1,500 partner outlets across Singapore

To earn miles at Kris+ merchant, all you need to do is:

  1. Scan the merchant’s Kris+ QR code
  2. Enter the amount to be paid, and press “Pay” to pay via Apple/Google Pay

Don’t forget to transfer any KrisPay miles you earn to KrisFlyer within seven days of the transaction, in their entirety. If you wait longer than seven days, or spend any of the accrued miles, the balance will be stuck in Kris+ (where they expire after six months).

A big “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button appears after every transaction, so there’s no excuse!

What card should I use with Kris+?

In general, Kris+ maintains the MCC of the underlying merchant (though there are some exceptions such as travel agencies), so you can use whatever card you’d normally use for that particular merchant.

When in doubt, the following cards are the safest to use with Kris+, as they earn 3-4 mpd regardless of Kris+ merchant.

๐Ÿ’ณ Best Cards for Kris+ (All Categories)
Card Earn Rate Remarks
DBS WWMC
Apply
4 mpd Max. S$1.5K per c. month
Citi Rewards + Amaze

4 mpd Max. S$1K per s. month. Do not use Citi Rewards Card alone- no bonuses

However, there are also other cards you can use that will earn up to 6 mpd, depending on MCC. Refer to the post below for more details.

Kris+ has cut the earn rates of most Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL dining, bar and spa outlets, with some seeing a reduction of up to 67%. These weren’t included in the initial batch of reductions, and increases the total merchants affected by the April nerf to 27.

Some heads up would have been nice, so that users could at least make a point of enjoying the old earn rates for a few more weeks, but it’s not the first (and won’t be the last) unannounced devaluation we see on this platform.
