Back in 2023, Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia announced a joint venture to expand passenger capacity between Singapore and Indonesia. The agreement was later expanded to include revenue-sharing and frequent flyer programme partnerships, with the goal of enabling GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer members to earn and redeem miles on codeshare routes.
Weโre now seeing the fruits of this partnership, as the two programmes have added reciprocal award redemptions on Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines flights.
While this does not cover the entire network, and the partnership appears more useful for GarudaMiles than KrisFlyer members, it does open up additional possibilities that are worth knowing about.
Redeem KrisFlyer miles for Garuda Indonesia flights

KrisFlyer members can now redeem miles for Garuda Indonesia flights between Singapore and Denpasar (Bali), Jakarta and Surabaya.
โ๏ธ One-Way Award Prices (Travel on Garuda Indonesia) |
||
From Singapore to | Economy Class | Business Class |
Denpasar | 13,500 | 24,000 |
Jakarta |
13,500 | 24,000 |
Surabaya | 13,500 | 24,000 |
Award space has already been loaded on the Singapore Airlines website. To find these awards, run a search for one of the eligible routes, then click on the โOther Partner Airlinesโ tab.
Unfortunately, the value isnโt great. The same flights, if redeemed with KrisFlyer miles on Singapore Airlines, would cost 8,500 and 21,000 miles in Economy Saver and Business Saver respectively.
โ๏ธ One-Way Award Prices (Travel on Singapore Airlines) |
||
From Singapore to Indonesia | Economy Class | Business Class |
Saver | 8,500 | 21,000 |
Advantage | 15,000 | 35,000 |
Not only is this cheaper, but Singapore Airlines does not have any fuel surcharges on redemptions. In contrast, passengers flying on Garuda Indonesia can expect to pay ~S$47.50 to S$54.20 in fuel surcharges on these routes in either direction, on top of the usual airport taxes.
However, in situations where Saver awards are waitlisted or otherwise unavailable, redeeming Garuda Indonesia flights would be cheaper than paying Advantage prices. That said, I would sooner redeem awards through Flying Blue in that scenario, since awards start from 10,000 miles in Economy Class.
Garuda Indonesia award tickets are subject to KrisFlyerโs standard rules for partner redemptions, including a US$50 fee for a change of date, route or flight, and a US$75 fee for cancellations.
Redeem GarudaMiles for Singapore Airlines flights
GarudaMiles members can also redeem miles for Singapore Airlines flights.
The official award chart has not yet been released, but Indonesia-based Pinterpoin has put together the following chart.
From Singapore to | Economy Class | Business Class |
Jakarta | 15,000 | 25,000 |
Medan | 15,000 | 25,000 |
Surabaya | 15,000 | 25,000 |
Denpasar | 17,500 | 30,000 |
Mumbai | 27,500 | 47,500 |
Joburg | 42,500 | 75,000 |
London | 52,500 | 95,000 |
It appears that GarudaMiles members will be able to redeem award flights on seven codeshare destinations with Singapore Airlines. Assuming the prices above are accurate, then London would be a potential sweet spot, given that it prices lower than a Business Saver (103,500 miles) redemption via KrisFlyer.
Unfortunately, there is no way to earn GarudaMiles in Singapore, ever since Citibank axed the programme back in August 2019.
Conclusion
KrisFlyer members can now redeem miles for award flights on Garuda Indonesia between Singapore and Denpasar, Jakarta and Surabaya.
While the value isnโt fantastic, at the very least it provides an additional option in situations where Saver award space on Singapore Airlines canโt be found through KrisFlyer.
Correction: GA flies several widebodies to Singapore. In fact Changi is the only international Southeast Asian destination which receives A330s and 777s, rather than only 737s, from Garuda โ its international network is just too limited.
And itโs the Boeing 737, not the Boeing B737!
Is this available only from GA flights between Singapore and Indonesia? I couldnโt find any availability between eg. Sydney and Bali, which is weird because it ooks like GA pax will have access to the entire SQ network.
not all route, SIN โ CGK DPS SUB LHR LGW KNO BOM, no JNB, chart at SQ n GA
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for sharing this info. Thereโs actually a better โhackโ if you want to redeem miles on Garuda Flights. The trick is to book via AirFrance / Flying Blue program and guess what? The amount of miles required is 50% less! Itโs only 15K miles (RETURN on eco) & 30K miles (RETURN on biz).
that figure is in the past
