Cathay Pacific offering up to 80,000 Asia Miles rebate on award flights

From now till 27 August 2026, get an 800-mile rebate for every 5,000 miles redeemed for Cathay Pacific flights to or from Hong Kong, in Economy or Premium Economy.

As part of its 80th anniversary celebrations, Cathay Pacific has launched a new promotion offering a rebate of up to 80,000 Asia Miles on award flights.

Before you get too excited, however, the rebate is awarded in fixed blocks of 800 miles for every 5,000 miles redeemed. This means you’d need to redeem a total of 500,000 miles to unlock the full 80,000 miles rebate, and the effective rebate will range from 8-16%, depending on how many miles you redeem.

Also, it’s limited to Premium Economy and Economy redemptions, and only for itineraries that start or end in Hong Kong.

All that aside, it’s still a nice opportunity to travel from Singapore to Hong Kong for just 8,200 miles — even if Cathay’s fuel surcharges take some of the shine off.

Cathay Pacific offering up to 80,000 miles award flight rebate

Details

Cathay members will enjoy an 800 miles rebate for every 5,000 Asia Miles redeemed for Cathay Pacific award flights booked from 14-27 August 2026.

Here are the key details:

  • Registration is required, and can be done via this link.
  • Travel must commence and be completed between 10 September and 10 December 2026
  • Valid for all destinations to and from Hong Kong
  • Both one-way and return itineraries are eligible
  • All flights must be operated by Cathay Pacific

The rebate will be calculated based on the total miles redeemed during the two-week booking period, including redemptions for nominees.  In other words, you can combine multiple redemptions to make up the 5,000-mile blocks.

However, the key limitation of this promotion is that it only applies to travel to or from Hong Kong — excluding transit flights. This means that you can’t save on a Singapore—Hong Kong—Europe/USA redemption, unless you broke it up into two separate bookings.

That said, a one-way Economy Class redemption from Singapore to Hong Kong costs just 9,000 miles, reduced to 8,200 miles under this promotion. A round-trip redemption would cost 15,600 miles.

This compares very favourably to Singapore Airlines —  which charges 15,500 miles each way — though unlike SIA, the Cathay Pacific redemption will have an additional fuel surcharge component of US$43.50 each way. The savings in miles should still outweigh the additional cash payment, though it really depends on how much you value a mile.

Here’s how much you can expect to pay in fuel surcharges, for itineraries originating from Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific fuel surcharges are the same across all cabin classes, and are applied by sector.

When will the rebate be credited?

The regular number of miles will be required at the time of redemption — this is a rebate, not a discount.

The rebate will be credited by 31 January 2027, based on the total number of miles redeemed during the promotional period.

Conclusion

Cathay Pacific is offering an 800-mile rebate for every 5,000 miles redeemed for award flights between now and 27 August 2026.

While travel has to start or end in Hong Kong, and you must fly in Economy or Premium Economy Class, those looking to redeem a getaway to Hong Kong might find this attractive. You have about two weeks to make your bookings, so there’s still time to mull it over.
