Thanks to Zack on the comments who tipped me off that Citibank ย is having an awesome signup promo for their Premiermiles Visa card from now till 14 Aug 2016.
Here’s the breakdown of the deal
- 15,000 miles are yours when you apply and spend any amount in the first 3 months
- 15,000 further bonus miles when you spend $10,000 within the first 3 months
- 12,000 base miles earned on the $10,000 spend in the first 3 months
Total=$42,000 miles for $10,000 of spend. That is one heck of a welcome deal. ย Do note that to take advantage of this deal you need to pay the first year annual fee of S$192.60
Now the bad news-
Yup. As long as you hold an existing Citibank Credit card of any type, you can’t take part. ย If you have owned a Citibank credit card in the past 12 months you can’t take part either.
If you do not already own a Citibank card, you absolutely need to take advantage of this. In a way what this promotion is doing is frontloading the annual fee and renewal miles (because Citibank already offers 10,000 renewal miles when you pay the $192.60 annual fee). But it’s also offering 5,000 bonus miles on top of that for a total of 15,000 welcome miles. At $192.60, this is 1.3 cents per mile, or one of the cheapest rates I’ve seen for buying miles in Singapore via annual fees
It’s a shame because I have some big hotel bills coming up on my RTW trip, but if you’re planning a wedding or any other kind of massive spendย you should seriously consider getting on board with this.
Remember that Citibank has some of the most diverse transfer partners in Singapore. In addition to the standard SQ and CX, you also can transfer to
- Royal Orchid Plus
- SkyMiles
- Executive Club
- Enrich
- Infinity MileageLands
- Garuda Frequent Flyer
- Etihad Guest
- Qantas
- Qatar
- Flying Blue
Too bad I was to trigger happy on my Citi applications…
[…] have already written enthusiastically about Citibank’s Prestige card, and when I learnt from The Milelion that the PremierMiles Visa has a new sign-up benefit I thought it was about time to cover this one […]
Hi do you know if it’s possible to get my fiancรฉ(she’s new to Citibank) to sign up for the card and get her to transfer the miles to MY krisflyer account(I’m already a current Citibank customer so I’m not eligible)?
that’s not possible because citibank will look at the name of the cardholder versus name on the FFP.
Transfer of miles to nominated KF account is a separate matter. The bank will not know which account you are planning to transfer to at point of credit card sign up. Hence, you can make use of this offer by asking your fiance to sign up.
As there is conflicting information on this, does anyone know for sure if the bank cross checks?
greetings from EVA BR12! All I’ll say is this- it’s against the T&C of the bank and the FFP to have someone other than yourself transfer in miles to your account. Whether or not they catch you is another matter. If they do catch you the penalties can range from removing the miles to shutting down your account. I wouldn’t advise it.
You cannot transfer if the FFP account is in a different name. Even if there’s no option to enter a name while quoting the FFP number, the airline will request for name of cardholder and compare against FFP account name. If they are different, the transfer will be rejected. As Aaron said, if they catch you, they can not only suspend your account but also forfeit your miles.
seems like the premiermiles currently beats the altitude as a new general spending card for a first sign on!
yes- in terms of pure bonus. but keep in mind you need to pay the annual fee. they’re basically frontloading the miles.
Thank you Aaron for a very informative write-up! I was searching for the Citi PremierMiles Card after i found out about the 42,000 Welcomes Miles from http://www.moneydigest.sg/receive-60-worth-ntuc-vouchers-apply-credit-cards-till-30-jun-16/
Look like its’ a no-brainer to sign up after i’m looking at which card to swipe for my upcoming house’s renovation.
I dont see exclusions for hospital or insurance payments in TnCs. Can anyone confirm receiving miles for these transactions pls?
Can someone explain why US citizens are ineligible for Citibank’s sign up bonuses? This is not the case with other banks where nationality is not a factor.
