Qatar Airways offering excellent Business Class fares ex-CGK

Excellent fares to Europe ex-CGK on Qatar Airways with flights from US$1,300

Premium fare deals are hard to come by for us living in this part of the world. However, there’s currently an excellent deal on Qatar Airways to Europe for flights departing from Jakarta. The catch is that it is only available to select destinations in Europe These fares are bookable on the Qatar Airways website.

The destinations on offer are:

  • Milan
  • Barcelona
  • Zurich

As per the Flyertalk thread, return fares can be had for as low as US$1,300! That’s approximately S$1,700 based on Google’s exchange rate. You can also use Google Flights to check the available dates before heading over to the Qatar Airways website to perform your booking.

From what I can see, dates are available for booking from now until end November 2018. Sadly, the December holidays do not have these fares on offer. You can easily set the search to only Qatar Airways on Google Flights for easier searching by clicking on “Airlines” and selecting only Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways flies their Boeing 787 between Doha and Jakarta and these feature the same excellent Business Class hard product which Aaron has reviewed before. On their Doha to Europe legs, it is a mixture of A330s, Boeing 777-300ERs and A350s.

Accelerated path to oneworld Sapphire status

Should you take advantage of these fantastic fare deals, I strongly recommend crediting these to British Airways Executive Club as these 4 Qatar Airways legs will earn you a grand total of 560 Tier Points, just 40 Tier Points shy of British Airways Executive Club Silver (oneworld Sapphire). However, there is a requirement to fly on 4 BA marketed flights before you get upgraded to British Airways Executive Club Silver and that can actually be easily done as a return trip on British Airways from Milan to Paris via London will already get you the 4 BA legs needed as well as 40 Tier Points. (but be sure to check if your fare bucket earns 10 Tier Points per flight)

If you’re thinking about crediting your points to Qatar’s FFP, don’t. After Qatar’s unannounced devaluation to their Privilege Club program where they hiked award ticket redemption rates, it’s clear you’d be better off putting your miles in a more trustworthy program.

Concluding Thoughts

Granted you’ll have to position yourself to Jakarta to take advantage of these deals, but there are plenty of options available to get to Jakarta be it via budget or full service airlines so it shouldn’t be that much of an issue.
