Maybank credit cards offering “GST-free shopping” promotion

From 3-31 July 2020, Maybank credit card members can enjoy “GST-free shopping”, via a 7% cash rebate on their registered Maybank card. 

This applies to selected transactions in physical retail stores, and stacks with existing Maybank card benefits. 

How Maybank’s “GST-free shopping” works

Registration

Cardholders first need to register their Maybank credit card via the Maybank TREATS SG mobile app. This can be done by navigating to Privileges–> Coupon–> 7% Cash Rebate Promotion 

Eligible Merchants

After that, they’ll need to spend a minimum of S$700 on selected retail categories in physical retail stores with the following MCCs:

• Apparel: 5137, 5139, 5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5661, 5681, 5691, 5697,
  5698
• Department Stores: 5309, 5311
• Watches & Jewellery: 5094, 5944
• Specialty Retail: 4225, 5111, 5193, 5310, 5331, 5399, 5931, 5932, 5933, 5937, 5943, 5947, 5948, 5950, 5973, 5978, 5992, 5993, 5996, 5999, 7292, 9751.

Remember: you’ll have to transact in-store. Online spending will not count for this promotion. 

Other conditions

Upon meeting the S$700 spending, cardholders will enjoy a 7% cash rebate provided that the minimum spend is charged in no more than 5 transactions.

The cash rebate will be awarded for the top 5 highest value transactions only, and is capped at S$70.

The cashback is available to the first 1,000 cardmembers who register and meet the minimum spend by 31 July 2020.

What Maybank cards can I use for shopping?

Since this is effectively an offline retail shopping campaign, the following cards are your best bets for picking up some miles along the way.

Conclusion

Unlike the “stay home” promotions that other banks have been offering over the past few months, this is a decidedly “get out” campaign. You’ll need to spend in physical retail stores to be eligible, so I suppose it’s targeted at those with revenge spending on their minds.
