OCBC VOYAGE card offering 2.5 mpd on dining for August

Expired

From 1-31 August, OCBC VOYAGE cardholders can earn 2.5 mpd on dining, capped at S$1,000.

For the month of August 2020, OCBC VOYAGE cardholders can earn 2.5 mpd on dining, a 90% increase over the usual earn rate of 1.3 mpd.

This is capped at the first S$1,000 spent, and available to all versions of the OCBC VOYAGE card.

Earn 2.5 mpd on dining with the OCBC VOYAGE card

From 1-31 August 2020, OCBC VOYAGE cardholders will earn bonus miles on dining transactions as follows:

 Base MilesBonus MilesTotal Miles
OCBC VOYAGE
(base version)
1.31.22.5
OCBC VOYAGE (all other versions)1.60.92.5

The above working assumes you spend in SGD; if for whatever reason you’re dining overseas, your total earn rate will still be 2.5 mpd (the bonus component will simply become smaller).

Bonus miles will be credited to your account within 2 months after 31 August 2020. Remember that OCBC is now awarding points in S$5 blocks, which will penalize you slightly when it comes to rounding.

Registration is not required, nor is this a targeted promotion; all cards will be automatically eligible. The full T&C of this promotion can be found here.

What counts as a dining transaction?

Dining transactions are defined as those with the following MCCs, whether online or offline:

  • MCC 5811: Caterers
  • MCC 5812: Eating Places, Restaurants
  • MCC 5814: Fast Food Restaurants

Note that MCC 5499: Miscellaneous Food Stores is excluded. This covers some snack and drinks stores like Chalk Farm and Crave, so take note if you frequent such places.

Food delivery should also qualify, to the extent it processes under the MCCs above. Deliveroo historically coded as MCC 5499, but my most recent transaction on 15 July (checked with the DBS Virtual Assistant) coded as MCC 5812, which will qualify.  Another GrabFood transaction I did on 31 July coded as MCC 5814 (which is weird as it wasn’t even fast food, but there you go).

What other cards can I use for dining?

2.5 mpd on dining is decent, but it’s not the highest earn rate possible. The following cards will get you up to 4 mpd on dining, with some conditions:

Conclusion

It wasn’t too long ago that OCBC nerfed its 1.6 mpd earn rate on dining, so it’s good to see them bringing back a higher promotional rate, albeit temporarily.

Once again, there’s no need to register for this promotion. All VOYAGE cards are automatically eligible and you should expect to see the bonus miles credited by the end of October 2020.
