Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, I’d argue that no hotel loyalty program has done more for its members than World of Hyatt. We’ve seen status extensions, extremely generous points promotions, rollover nights, discounts on award stays, the postponement of peak pricing, and now there’s further enhancements for next year.
World of Hyatt has announced that it will be cutting elite status requirements by 50% in 2021, meaning that you’ll be able to earn top tier Globalist status with just 30 hotel nights (or 15, if you stay from Jan-Feb 2021).
World of Hyatt reduces status requirements for 2021
For 2021, World of Hyatt will adopt the following elite status thresholds, which are 50% of their usual requirements.ย
ย | Elite Nights | Base Points |
Discoverist | 12,500 |
|
Explorist | 15 |
25,000 |
Globalist | 30 |
50,000 |
Status earned in 2021 will be valid until 28 February 2023.ย
But there’s more.ย World of Hyatt is currently running a Bonus Journeys promotion (registration required) where members earn 3X points on every qualifying stay, and elite nights count twice- once when they’re earned, and again in 2021 towards status and Milestone Rewards.
This offer has been extended until 28 February 2021, which means that if you stay 15 nights from 1 January-28 February 2021, you’ll qualify for Globalist status until 28 February 2023 (15 nights x 2= 30 nights)!
Also extended: 15% pointsback on awards, 3X points on dining
Back in July, World of Hyatt announced a new promotion for points redemptions, where registered members would receive a 15% points rebate on free night awards, points + cash stays, room upgrades and dining and spa services. For example, if you redeemed a room award that costs 10,000 points, you’d get 1,500 points credited back to your account.ย
This offer was originally set to end on 8 October 2020, but has now been extended till 28 February 2021.ย
Remember that this is not a discount, it’s a rebate.ย In other words, you’ll need to have the required points upfront, as the pointsback only comes later. For example, you can’t redeem an award that costs 100,000 points if your balance is currently only 85,000. The maximum pointsback a member can receive under this promotion is 30,000 points.ย
The free parking isn’t really useful in Singapore, however, because all guests at the Grand Hyatt already enjoy free parking, and the Andaz Singapore does not offer parking in the first place (it doesn’t operate the carpark at DUO).ย
I also wrote about Hyatt’s 3X points offer on dining, which has been extended to 28 February 2021 as well.ย No registration is required, and you’ll automatically earn points at the following restaurants:
Andaz
- 665ยฐF
- Alley on 25
- Bar Square
- Mr. Stork
Grand Hyatt
- 10 SCOTTS
- mezza9
- Oasis Restaurant
- Pete’s Place
- StraitsKitchen
Conclusion
Hyatt will now be running a total of three offers till 28 February 2021:
- Bonus Journeys: 3X points on stays + double elite nights
- Free nights on sale: 15% off award nights
- Dine Local: 3X points on dining
This, coupled with the reduced earning thresholds for 2021, makes it extremely compelling to direct your staycation/travel bubble (when it happens) patronage to Hyatt.ย
If only mattress runs were feasible in Singapore…
… โGlobalist status with just 30 hotel nights (or 15, if you stay from Jan-Feb 2021).โ Why 15N to qualify if stay from Jan to Feb 2021? Isnโt requirement = 30N? Thank You

I’m super tempted. It’s a shame that the Hyatts in SG are so expensive (some Hyatts in HK are selling for 600HKD/night right now) otherwise it would be a no brainer. But I think I’ll jump on this regardless.
@Aaron you wouldn’t know what happens if you book a room at two different Hyatts for the same night?
they only allow you to earn credit for 1 hotel per night.
Hey Aaron, Iโm also tempted to pull the trigger on this (15 nights in Jan at GH SG = SGD3k-ish ++) but have a few questions that I hope you can help with cos Iโm only with HHonors… after losing corporate Explorist some years ago… ๐๐ป๐๐ป 1. At cash prices of SGD206++ per night it seems cheaper than buying points at current offer, ya..? 2. Once Globalist, the four Suite Upgrade vouchers arenโt โa givenโ are they? Theyโre pegged to the number of points you earn fir the duration..? 3. At the above SGD206++ a night, 15 nights.. that works… Read more »
definitely cheaper than buying points. re: globalist suite upgrades, you get 2 for 50 nights, 2 for 60 nights, 1 for 70 nights.
Thanks, Aaron.. that means 15 nights gets.. none.. ๐
Important to keep in mind that if you stay the 15 nights , according to hyatt , you will get Globalist status but only a few weeks AFTER Feb 28 as the double elite nights will not post until March. So you cannot benefit from the status until then. Also the 25% refund onpints will be credited back only in April.
