Update (13 July): Thanks to the doubling of HighFlyer point value, this offer is now worth up to 6.8 mpd! |
The AMEX SIA Business Card is one of the few cards out there that still offers rewards for GrabPay wallet top-ups. As if that wasn’t good enough, it’s now possible to earn up to 3.4 mpd on these transactions, thanks to a limited-time, limited-quantity bonus.ย
Like all AMEX Offers, this is targeted, so if you don’t see it in the app or online it means you’re not eligible. You could try to call up American Express customer service and ask to be manually registered, but there’s no guarantee you’ll be successful.
โ What are AMEX Offers? |
AMEX Offers are opportunities to earn bonus miles or Membership Rewards points, or discounts in the form of statement credits. These are available to Platinum, True Cashback, and KrisFlyer cobrand cardholders, and can be found in the โOffersโ section of the AMEX app or web portal.ย Registration is required, and some offers may be targeted. These are not applicable to DBS/Citi/UOB AMEX cardholders.ย |
Earn up to 3.4 mpd on GrabPay top-upsย
From now till 30 September 2021, targeted AMEX SIA Business Card members can earn a bonus 5 HighFlyer points for every S$1 (equivalent to 2.5 mpd) spent on GrabPay wallet top-ups, capped at 5,000 HighFlyer points.ย
This stacks with the regular earn rate of 1.8 HighFlyer points per S$1 (0.9 mpd), so you’re looking at 6.8 HighFlyer points in total (3.4 mpd).
โ๏ธ What is HighFlyer? |
HighFlyer is Singapore Airlines’ loyalty program for SMEs. The program is free to join and does not require any minimum spend commitment; all you need to sign up is an ACRA business registration number.
HighFlyer is essentially a cash rebate scheme. Companies earn 5 HighFlyer points per S$1 spent on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot, Lufthansa, and SWISS (excluding airport fees and government taxes), and can redeem them at a rate of 1,000 HighFlyer points= S$10. This is an effective rebate of 5%, which may not sound like a lot to consumers, but makes a world of difference for cash-strapped SMEs. HighFlyer points are valid for 3 years, and cannotย be earned on Q, N, V and K booking classes (i.e Economy Lite fares). They can beย converted into KrisFlyer miles for nominated employees at a rate of 2 HighFlyer points= 1 KrisFlyer mile. |
Registration is required, and is capped at 500 cards.ย
You should see the bonus points credited to your card account within 5 business days after the qualifying spend, but it may take up to 90 days from the offer end date. In my experience these post very fast, so you shouldn’t have to wait long.ย
When should you use GrabPay?
The ability to earn rewards on GrabPay wallet top-ups opens up some interesting possibilities. For example, you could use the GrabPay Mastercard to pay for the following transactions, which normally don’t earn points with credit cards:
- Charitable donations
- Education bills
- Financial services
- Government payments
- Insurance premiums
It could even be an opportunity to double dip on credit card and GrabRewards points, provided. the transaction isn’t explicitly excluded.ย

Other cards for GrabPay top-ups
If you don’t qualify for an AMEX SIA Business Card, your only other option for rewards on GrabPay wallet top-ups is the AMEX True Cashback Card, which earns 1.5% cashback without any caps. This isn’t some sort of hidden secret; American Express openly advertises it in its ads.ย
Conclusion
Registration is capped at 500 cards, so grab this AMEX offer while you still can.ย
For those who own a SME, do consider signing up for a card– the first year fee is waived, and you get a free Accor Plus membership with a complimentary hotel night. It’s literally a free staycation and up to 50% off dining for you.ย
The promotion is:
Spend $1 or more , in one or more transactions, on grabpay wallet topups to get 5 bonus high flyer points every time, up to 5000 points.
Would you interpret it as: each top up of at least $1 would get 5 bonus points? And minimum grabpay topup is $10, which would still earn you 5 bonus points. In order to earn 5000 points, you would have to top up 1000 times, at $10 each time, equals $10k?
Nope. Don’t overthink it.
