What can you do with 1,000,000 MR points?
Supposing you take home the grand prize of 1,000,000 MR points, there’s a whole lot of travel waiting in your future.
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders can convert Membership Rewards points to airline miles or hotel points at the following rates:
Let’s say you go with airline miles: 1,000,000 MR points would therefore be equal to 625,000 miles with eight frequent flyer programmes.
With 625,000 KrisFlyer miles, you could book 3x round-trip Business Class tickets between Singapore and Europe on Singapore Airlines, or 6x round-trip Business Class tickets between Singapore and Tokyo or South Korea.
Alternatively, with 625,000 Asia Miles, you could book 3x Business Class oneworld multi-carrier awards with travel of up to 18,000 miles each. An example itinerary would be:
- Cathay Pacific from Singapore to Hong Kong
- Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to Tokyo Haneda
- American Airlines from Tokyo Haneda to Los Angeles
- Japan Airlines from Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda
- Japan Airlines from Tokyo Haneda to Singapore
This would cover a total distance of 17,655 miles, and would cost 155,000 miles per Business Class ticket.
Or if you feel like doing something slightly wacky, why not 25x round-trip Business Class tickets from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur? Sure, the flight’s barely an hour long, but the flight’s not the point- you’ll get to enjoy the excellent Qatar Premium Lounge at Changi before you fly! This can be a unique date night experience, believe me.
Speaking of Qatar Airways, you can also convert those 625,000 British Airways Avios into 625,000 Qatar Airways Avios, and use them for 4x round-trip Business Class tickets between Singapore and Europe on Qatar Airways. Qatar Privilege Club does not impose fuel surcharges on Qatar Airways redemptions, so your cash co-payment will be minimal.
But you’ll be in the airplane for at most a day. Why not invest your points instead in the experience on arrival? 1,000,000 MR points can be converted into 1,250,000 Hilton points, or 1,000,000 Marriott points, which could get you 10 nights at the Conrad Maldives, 15 nights at the Conrad Osaka, or 24 nights at the St. Regis Bangkok! (Hilton and Marriott practice dynamic pricing, which means you may get more or fewer nights than what I’m showing above depending on when you stay).
Don’t forget, the AMEX Platinum Charge gives you Hilton Honors Gold status, so not only will you enjoy the fifth night free on all redemptions, you’ll also get complimentary breakfast for two adults per day. That can save a whole lot of money, especially in high-cost destinations.

Good luck!
I have been thinking about getting the Amex Plat card for a while now but the sign up offers seem to be getting worse and worse unfortunately so I keep putting it off in favour of other cards. I also find it strange that Amex exclude any existing Amex cardholder from most of the sign up offers, as surely they should want to convert existing cardholders with low fee cards to platinum. In my experience Amex have generally only excluded either existing Platinum card holders, or existing MR cards from sign up offers, but havenโt excluded co brand cards. As… Read more »
Where are we finding QR SIN-KUL? Its not for sale on their website…
I donโt think Aaron was referring to any QR flights for KUL but just to the QR lounge at Changi. Presumably suggesting booking the flights with Malaysian Airlines so you can then use the Qatar loungeโฆ.
bingo.
I should join this, maybe I can win Amex contest again ๐
For the 2m mr giveaway, does existing customers include current Amex plat holders that have signed up without going through MileLion?(i.e. open for all Amex plat holders)
Considering. I had cancelled all my amexes last week in anger. Never had a plat charge. Does that make me eligible for everything? Yes, right?
correct. so long as you have not cancelled an amex plat charge in past 24 months and dont hold any amex principal cards at the time of app.
Hi Aaron,
I mistakenly submitted my contest entry before I could finish typing out the answer to my favourite Platinum card benefit.
Therefore, I had to submit a second entry instead that contains the completed answer.
Is there someone I can contact from Milelion so that my 1st entry can be disregarded (in lieu of the 2nd completed entry)?
Many thanks
Meanwhile….with all the money they are spending on acquisition, it might be good if they spend some attention to declining service levels. I used my SGD 400 credit for a booking (the one and only I’ve made with Amex via the centre since the pandemic) and I was grossly misinformed on multiple calls and now that I know the issue, they keep promising to call me back and email me if I am not reachable (I’ve been travelling for most of the last 45 days) and never do. Just called them and no action has been taken since my last… Read more »
P.S. My renewal is up in July so guess which card is going to make my wallet lighter for the rest of 2023.
