Shangri-La Circle offering up to 3X points on hotel dining

Expired

From now till 15 December 2023, earn up to 3X points per US$1 spent on Shangri-La dining worldwide, a rebate of up to 23%.

Shangri-La Circle has launched a new promotion called Delicious Doubles, which offers members up to 3X points on dining worldwide till 15 December 2023.

This represents a rebate of up to 23.3%, and could come in useful for the festive period.

Shangri-La Circle Delicious Doubles

Shangri-La Delicious Doubles

From 15 October to 15 December 2023, Shangri-La Circle members will earn an additional 1 point per US$1 on dining, on top of their regular earn rate of 1-1.5 points per US$1.

No registration is required. All members need to do is provide their Circle number at the time of bill payment (or charge the amount to their room, if they’re an in-house guest).

Here’s how many points you can expect to earn, depending on tier.

🏨 Points per US$1 Spent
Tier Base Bonus Total
Gold 1 1 2
Jade 1.25 1 2.25
Diamond 1.5 1 2.5

Circle points can be used to offset hotel, dining and spa charges at a fixed rate of 15 points = US$1 (you may remember that Shangri-La massively devalued its loyalty programme in April 2022, with points losing almost 50% of their value!).

This means your effective rebate on dining is:

  • Gold: 13.3% rebate
  • Jade: 15% rebate
  • Diamond: 16.7% rebate

Points will be awarded for the pre-tax, pre-service charge amount, excluding spend on:

  • Gift certificates or vouchers
  • Catering and events
  • Late charges
  • No-show charges
  • Cancellation penalties
  • Retail outlet spending
  • Deliveries
  • Mini-bar
  • In-room dining

The promotion is open to both staying and non-staying members. However, points cannot be earned if any portion of the bill is paid with third-party discount vouchers such as Chope or OpenRice.

Mastercard bonus

Shangri-La Circle members who pay with a Mastercard will earn an extra 1 point per US$1 spent, capped at 300 points per transaction.

This increases the total rebate as follows (assuming you’re within the US$300 cap):

  • Gold: 3 points per US$1 (20% rebate)
  • Jade: 3.25 points per US$1 (21.7% rebate)
  • Diamond: 3.5 points per US$1 (23.3% rebate)

Mastercard payments through Alipay and WeChat Pay will not be eligible to earn extra points.

Which hotels are participating?

Silver Shell Cafe, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa

All Shangri-La hotels and resorts worldwide are participating, with the exception of:

  • Shangri-La Vancouver
  • Shangri-La Changzhou
  • Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei
  • Shangri-La Far Eastern Tainan
  • JEN Hong Kong by Shangri-La
  • Shangri-La Tokyo

The following hotels have partial participation:

  • Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore: All are participating except Zeniya Singapore
  • Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, Singapore: Only Silver Shell Café will participate
  • Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur: In-room dining and Poolside Terrace will not participate in the promotion (not sure why they need to mention in-room dining when it’s already a general exclusion)
  • Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur: Only SkyBar and Bara On Six will participate
  • Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang: Only Pinang Restaurant & Bar and FIP Fun Interactive & Play will participate
  • Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang: Only Garden Café will participate

When will bonus points be credited?

Base points and the 1X bonus will be posted to the member’s account within 14 days.

The additional 1X bonus from paying with a Mastercard will be credited approximately 4-6 weeks after the end of the promotion period, i.e. by 26 January 2024.

Terms & Conditions

You can find the (poorly-drafted) T&Cs here.

I say poorly-drafted because the terminology used is not consistent, and there are some parts which contradict each other. For example, point 5 says that the 2X points consists of “1X point earned plus 1X promotion bonus points” (presumably “1X point earned” refers to the base for Gold members).

But point 15 seems to suggest that the 2X points is on top of the regular base points: “2X Bonus Points earned will be credited in the members’ account together with the base Points in 14 days.”

My read is that point 5 is the correct term, but make of that what you will.

Stack with AMEX Offer

Conclusion

Shangri-La Beijing

From now till 15 December 2023, Shangri-La Circle members can earn up to 3 points per US$1 spent on dining at participating hotels worldwide.

Even with the nerfed Circle programme, the rebates on offer could be potentially enticing, especially for those who pay with a Mastercard. American Express cardholders can also enjoy a S$100 statement credit, though they’ll need to spend at least S$500 to unlock it.
