KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card extends 25,000 miles sign-up offer; adds cap

From now till 31 May 2024, get up to 25,000 bonus miles with a new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card and a minimum spend of S$2,000- capped at just 100 applicants!

Back in February 2023, UOB launched a rarely-seen uncapped sign-up offer for the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card, offering 25,000 bonus miles with a minimum spend of S$2,000 in the first 60 days of approval.

Unfortunately, from April 2024 onwards UOB added a “first 100” cap per month, which turned this once decent offer into basically a gamble. Roll the dice if you want to, but nothing’s guaranteed!

KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card 25,000 miles sign-up bonus

Apply

From 1-31 May 2024, new-to-UOB customers who apply and are approved for a KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card will enjoy up to 25,000 bonus miles when they spend at least S$2,000 in the first 60 days of approval.

❓ New-to-UOB definition

New-to-UOB is defined as customers as those who:

  • do not currently hold a principal UOB credit card, and
  • have not cancelled a principal UOB credit card in the 6-month period before 1 Jan 2024

This is broken down into:

Bonus Min. Spend Cap
5,000 miles S$5 on first trxn. No cap
20,000 miles S$2,000 in 60 days First 100

5,000 miles will be awarded to cardholders who make their first spend of at least S$5.

20,000 miles will be awarded to the first 100 applicants who spend at least S$2,000 within the first 60 days of approval.

❓ Existing UOB customer?
Existing UOB customers who apply for a KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card are eligible for the 5,000 bonus miles on first spend. However, this is a once-per-lifetime offer; if you previously held this card, you cannot receive the bonus a second time even if you sign-up again.

The first year’s annual fee of S$196.20 is automatically waived, so assuming you have spend coming up, these bonus miles are essentially “free”.

Do note that UOB markets this offer as “up to 31,000 miles”. Where do the extra 6,000 miles come from? It assumes the entire S$2,000 minimum spend is clocked on 3 mpd categories, such as:

  • Singapore Airlines
  • Scoot
  • KrisShop
  • Kris+
  • “Accelerated Miles” categories such as dining, food delivery, online shopping & travel, transport (with a minimum SIA Group spend of S$800 in a membership year)

Assuming you spent the S$2,000 elsewhere (in Singapore dollars), you’d earn 2,400 base miles (@ 1.2 mpd), for a total of 27,400 miles.

When will the bonus be credited?

The 5,000 bonus miles for the first spend bonus will be credited in the following month after the first transaction is made.

The 20,000 bonus miles for the sign-up offer will be credited according to the following timeline.

Card approval month 20,000 miles credited by Reflected in KF account by
Jan 2024 31 May 2024 10 Jun 2024
Feb 2024 30 Jun 2024 10 Jul 2024
Mar 2024 31 Jul 2024 10 Aug 2024
Apr 2024 31 Aug 2024 10 Sep 2024

All miles will be credited directly to the linked KrisFlyer account, with no transfer fees applicable.

What counts as qualifying spend?

Approved cardholders will need to spend a minimum of S$2,000 in the first 60 days of approval. The full list of exclusions can be found in the T&Cs (point 1.6), but the key ones to note are:

  • Charitable donations
  • Education
  • Government transactions
  • GrabPay top-ups
  • Hospitals
  • ipaymy
  • Medical services
  • Insurance premiums
  • Utilities

For avoidance of doubt, CardUp spending will count towards the minimum spend.

Terms & Conditions

The full T&Cs of this sign-up offer can be found here.

How does this compare to the UOB PRVI Miles offer?

For many months now, UOB has been running a concurrent new-to-bank offer for the UOB PRVI Miles Card, which offers 45,200 bonus miles, split into:

  • 20,000 miles for paying the S$261.60 annual fee
  • 25,200 miles for spending S$1,000 per month for two consecutive months

The main difference between this and the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card offer is that you must pay the UOB PRVI Miles’ annual fee, and your spending must be S$1,000 per month for two consecutive months (instead of S$2,000 within 60 days). And of course, the PRVI Miles offer has no first 100 cap, so I’d probably take it for that reason alone.

Cardholder Terms and Conditions

The KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card comes with a first year fee waiver. Cardholders earn 1.2 mpd on local and overseas spend, and 3 mpd on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, KrisShop (collectively known as SIA Group transactions) and Kris+.

If they spend at least S$800 on SIA Group transactions in a membership year, they will earn an uncapped 3 mpd on:

Category MCCs/ Transaction Description
Dining & Food Delivery 5812, 5813, 5814
Online Shopping 4816, 5262, 5306, 5309, 5310, 5311, 5331, 5399, 5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5661, 5691, 5699, 5732, 5733, 5735, 5912, 5942, 5944-5949, 5999, 7278 (only for Shopee, Lazada and Qoo10)
Online Travel Agoda, Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Kaligo, Traveloka, Trip.com, UOB Travel
Transport BUS/MRT, 4121
Bonuses apply to both local and FCY spending

Cardholders also receive instant KrisShopper Insider status (provided they’re not already KrisShopper members), which awards an extra 2.5 mpd on KrisShop purchases.

Conclusion

The KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card has extended its 25,000 bonus miles sign-up offer to 31 May 2024, but unfortunately a first 100 cap now exists.

Cardholders can look forward to an uncapped 3 mpd on dining, food delivery, online shopping and travel, and transport, plus Singapore Airlines and Scoot tickets (particularly useful now that the DBS Altitude Card’s bonus on air tickets has been nerfed).

It’s true you could earn 4 mpd on most of these categories, but if you’re making a big-ticket purchase that would bust the cap on a higher-earning card, then the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card is definitely something to consider.

“Existing UOB customers who apply for a KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card are eligible for the 5,000 bonus miles on first spend.”

Existing UOB customer eligible too?
I clicked in via your link, read the terms & conditions only eligible for New customers only.

Can help to clarify?
Thanks in advance. 🙂

Scott

Same here. Can’t find any information on existing UOB customers for this card.

Jane

Took a bit of digging but Clause 3.2 under this link talks about the 5,000 welcome miles to be eligible for new to Krisflyer CC applicants – if I understand this correctly, it should apply to existing UOB customers who do not hold a KF CC yet.

Joan Tan

Hi! Please confirm cardup is eligible for bonus sign up spending. Transacted but no rewards points granted. May I also ask if AXS pay+earn will also count towards bonus sign up spending? Thanks for the confirmation. Really appreciate it.

Ken

This is tangential but wondering if anyone has an answer. I currently have KF gold which will be expiring in June 2024 as I haven’t taken any flights since last June, however, within the next 12 months, I’m going to hit 50,000 miles (30k miles by June, and the remaining 20K by November). So will I regain my KF gold by November, or am I stuck with June as my membership year? I.e they will only count 50,000 earned from June to June?

Zaos

T&Cs has this clause which I don’t see in the privi miles T&Cs.

1.3. This Promotion is only open to individuals who are new to United Overseas Bank Limited (“UOB”) credit cards

How “new” is not defined – could certainly be intepreted as lifetime.

It is seperate from 1.4(a) “must not be an existing principal holder” and “not cancelled your principal UOB credit card(s) six (6) months prior”.

Thoughts?

Worried

Hi Aaron,
What do you think of Clause 1.6(b)(vii) of Excluded Transactions?
“(vii) Transactions at UOB$ merchants”
Appears that excluded transactions are a lot wider in scope than the usual standard exclusions.
