The AMEX Platinum Charge offers cardholders S$1,354 worth of dining, shopping, entertainment and travel credits each year, known collectively as the Platinum Statement Credits. This replaces the previous system of S$800 airline and hotel credits, which was discontinued in February 2023.
American Express recently launched the 2025 Platinum Statement Credits (and not without some drama!). While the total amount remains the same as last year, changes to the terms and conditions and participating merchants mean it’s a whole new ball game.
I’m not going to sugar coat it: the changes are bad. Cardholders will likely find it more difficult to fully utilise their credits this year, because of the switch to half-yearly allocations, a new minimum spend restriction for the Airline credit, and a sharp reduction in the number of restaurants participating in the Local Dining credit.
In this guide, I’ll go through the details of each of the credits, and answer some FAQs regarding their use.
What’s changed from 2024?
Here’s a summary of how 2025 Platinum Statement Credits compare with last year’s.

Dining, Lifestyle and Airline credits now half-yearly
The Local Dining, Overseas Dining, Lifestyle and Airline credits, which were awarded annually in 2024, will be awarded half-yearly from 2025.
This change has two major implications.
- It makes the first year of membership less lucrative than before, because you won’t be able to fully utilise the second calendar year’s set of credits
- It’s likely to increase breakage (i.e. wasted credits) because of the increased workload for the cardholder. In fact, if you don’t travel at least twice a year, once in the first half and again in the second half, you won’t be able to fully utilise the Overseas Dining credit (unless perhaps you plan a trip that straddles the June/July changeover)
Minimum spend for airline credit
In 2024, the minimum spend required to trigger the Airline credit could be made in one or more transactions.
From 2025, the minimum spend must be made in a single transaction. I’ll explain the implications of this in the relevant section below.

The AMEX Platinum Charge’s 2025 Platinum Statement Credits are disbursed on a half-yearly basis, with the exception of the Entertainment credit, which is issued each month.
For half-yearly credits, cardholders will receive:
- 1x credit to be used from 1 January to 30 June (though the credits only went live on 7 January this year)
- 1x credit to be used from 1 July to 31 December
All credits require registration, which can be done via the AMEX Offers portal on the desktop website or AMEX SG mobile app. You’ll need to register for each credit separately.
Registration will remain in effect till 31 December 2025, and you’ll need to re-register for 2026’s benefit, whatever that is.
Once registered, statement credits will be automatically triggered upon meeting the eligibility criteria.
Statement credits officially appear on your billing statement within 30 days from the date of transaction, but in practice often appear much sooner. In my experience, it takes no more than 3-4 days to post.
Only the principal cardholder may enrol for statement credits, and only spending on the principal card will trigger statement credits. Spending on a supplementary card or additional card will not be eligible.
S$200 Local Dining Credit
Local Dining Credit | |
Awarded | Jan-Jun: S$100 credit Jul-Dec: S$100 credit |
No. of Transactions | One or more |
Minimum Spend | None |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive 2x S$100 Local Dining credits every half-year that can be used at any of the following restaurants in Singapore. No minimum spend is required.
๐ฝ๏ธ Participating Restaurants (Singapore)
|
|
Of course, the dining credit is only as good as the participating restaurants, and unfortunately this year’s list has been pared down significantly, from 29 to 13.
It’s not just about the numbers; most of the venues on the list now are fine dining establishments, where S$100 won’t put much of a dent in the bill. Also, none of them are part of Love Dining, so there’s no opportunity to stack Love Dining discounts and credits like last year.
For what it’s worth, you can take advantage of Accor Plus discounts, if you have a membership. yi by Jereme Leung and Tiffin Room have a year-long 15% discount for members, so that’s probably where I’ll be heading.
Do note that the credit is applied to the nett dining amount. For example:
- I spend S$98 at Tiffin Room
- As an Accor Plus member, this is discounted by 15% to S$83.30
- After 9% GST and 10% service charge, the nett amount charged to my AMEX Platinum Charge is S$99.87
This lets me spend my entire credit in a single visit, more or less. However, if you prefer to spend the credit over multiple visits to different restaurants, that’s fine too (e.g. S$50 at Restaurant A and S$50 at Restaurant B, assuming that were even possible with the elevated selection!).
S$200 Overseas Dining Credit
Overseas Dining Credit
Awarded | Jan-Jun: S$100 credit Jul-Dec: S$100 credit |
No. of Transactions | One or more |
Minimum Spend | None |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive 2x S$100 Overseas Dining credits every half-year that can be used at any participating restaurant worldwide. No minimum spend is required.
The credit can be used at over 2,000 restaurants in the following countries:
๐ฝ๏ธ Platinum Dining (Overseas)
|
|
The credit is only valid for dine-in and excludes purchases of gift cards and vouchers, transactions made towards deposits charged upfront by the participating restaurants, cancellation and no-show charges, take away or dine-at-home services.โ
Do note that if you want to book restaurants in Japan, you must use the Pocket Concierge service and make a prepaid reservation. This still triggers the dining credit, despite what the previous paragraph says. I tried this out during a trip to Osaka previously, and the process was very smooth.
Pocket Concierge’s prepaid nature also presents the opportunity to use the credit “across time periods”, so to speak. For example, in May 2025, I could book a reservation for a restaurant in Japan for July 2025. The credit will be used for the January to June period, even though my actual utilisation is between July to December.
However, if Japan is not on your travel list, then to fully utilise 2025’s credit, you must either:
- Take a trip that straddles the June/July period
- Take one trip from January to June, and another from July to December
While credit posting is usually quite reliable, it’s good practice to retain your receipts and check your statement. I had an issue with Aosta in Arrowtown, New Zealand where the credit did not post. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the merchant was using an older payment terminal still tied to the restaurant’s previous name. The credit was manually awarded after I submitted the receipt for my meal.
S$400 Lifestyle Credit
Lifestyle Credit | |
Awarded | Jan-Jun: S$200 credit Jul-Dec: S$200 credit |
No. of Transactions | Single |
Minimum Spend | S$300 |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive 2x S$200 Lifestyle credits every half-year that can be used at the following merchants with a minimum spend of S$300 in a single transaction.
- Adeva Spa
- Follicle at Adeva
- Spa Rael
- The Ultimate
- The Spa by The Ultimate
- Grand Cru Wine Concierge
Grand Cru Platinum |
If you intend to buy wines from Grand Cru, you’ll need to shop on this special portal for Platinum cardholders.
Now, you need to exercise caution here because the prices on this portal can be inflated compared to Grand Cru’s public website. I say “can”, because it’s not consistent. I have seen instances where the portal charges 10-15% more, and instances where the prices are the same. To the extent that you’re paying inflated prices, you’ll of course need to adjust the value of this credit downwards.
S$204 Entertainment Credit
Entertainment Credit | |
Awarded | S$17 per calendar month |
No. of Transactions | One or more |
Minimum Spend | None |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive a S$17 entertainment credit every calendar month that can be used at the following merchants. No minimum spend is required.
- Audible
- Disney+
- Eventbrite
- Netflix Singapore
- SPH Media (Straits Times, Business Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Shin Min Daily News, Berita Harian, Tamil Murasu, Tabla!)
- Ticketmaster
For context, a Disney+ Standard plan starts at S$15.98 per month, and a Netflix Standard plan at S$19.98 per month.
Remember that the credit is disbursed every calendar month, so if you sign up for an annual subscription, you’ll only enjoy a single S$17 statement credit (because the full year’s subscription is charged all at once). Be sure to stick to the monthly plan.
S$200 Airline Credit
Airline Credit | |
Awarded | Jan-Jun: S$100 credit Jul-Dec: S$100 credit |
No. of Transactions | Single |
Minimum Spend | S$300 |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive 2x S$100 Airline credits every half-year that can be used with Singapore Airlines or Scoot. A minimum spend of S$300 in a single transaction is required. This marks a change from 2024’s policy, where the spend could be in one or more transactions.
The following terms apply:
- Tickets must be purchased in-app or online at the Singapore Airlines or Scoot websites (i.e. you cannot book IAP rates via the AMEX Travel Portal)
- Tickets must be purchased in Singapore Dollars for flights departing from Singapore
- Transactions on KrisShop, Kris+ and any purchase of trip add-ons or purchases via phone, email, or other payment links do not count
This credit will be triggered when paying for taxes and surcharges on award tickets, but take note of the following:
- The charge must be in SGD, which means you must either redeem a one-way or round-trip ticket from Singapore (the credit would not be triggered if you redeemed a one-way LHR-SIN ticket and paid for taxes and surcharges in GBP, for example)
- The award ticket need not be on Singapore Airlines; if you were to redeem a Lufthansa award ticket via KrisFlyer, the charge would still come from Singapore Airlines (the previous point about the charge being in SGD still applies, however)
- Even though the terms say that tickets must be for flights departing Singapore, there are data points saying all that matters is the payment currency. If you choose to pay in SGD (SIA’s website sometimes offers the option), the statement credit will be triggered. Do make sure the rate offered is reasonable, however
The requirement to spend at least S$300 in a single transition is unlikely to be a problem if you’re buying commercial tickets, but it could be an issue for award tickets. For example, the taxes and fees on a round-trip Business Class ticket from Singapore to Los Angeles and Sydney is S$131.30 and S$203.50 respectively, insufficient to trigger the credit. So either you redeem tickets for multiple travellers, or maybe fly to London, where taxes and fees will set you back S$535.20!
As a side note, the opportunity cost involved with using the AMEX Platinum Charge for Singapore Airlines/Scoot transactions isn’t quite as bad as other categories, since you earn 1.95 mpd. Moreover, you will also trigger the very comprehensive travel insurance coverage by using your AMEX Platinum Charge to pay (even if it’s an award ticket).
S$150 Fashion Credit
Fashion Credit | |
Awarded | Jan-Jun: S$75 credit Jul-Dec: S$75 credit |
No. of Transactions | One or more |
Minimum Spend | None |
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive 2x S$75 Fashion credits every half-year that can be used with NET-A-PORTER & MR PORTER. No minimum spend is required.
Purchases must be made:
- online at net-a-porter.com/en-sg/ or mrporter.com/en-sg
- via the NET-A-PORTER or MR PORTER phone apps
For the uninitiated, NET-A-PORTER is for women, and MR PORTER for men. And even if you have no interest in clothes, the website also sells bags, sunglasses, watches, shoes and bathroom amenities. Think of this as an opportunity to pick up some discounted Aesop, if nothing else.
Free shipping is normally offered for orders above 200 GBP, but the code mrp10pmx removes the minimum spend requirement (if the code does not work for you, try using it in an incognito window).
There are also other promo codes out there that help you stretch your credit, so do some Googling before buying. Don’t forget that NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER are both on ShopBack, so you can earn extra cashback on your order too.
FAQs
Q: With the changes, can I still use two calendar years’ worth of credits in my first membership year?
With the shift to half-year credits, you’ll be limited to enjoying 1.5 year’s worth of credits in your first membership year.
To illustrate, suppose your card is approved in April 2025. On approval, you’ll receive the following credits, which need to be spent by 30 June 2025.
- H1 2025 Local Dining credit
- H1 2025 Overseas Dining credit
- H1 2025 Lifestyle credit
- H1 2025 Airline credit
- H1 2025 Fashion credit
On 1 July 2025, you’ll receive the following credits, which need to be spent by 31 December 2025:
- H2 2025 Local Dining credit
- H2 2025 Overseas Dining credit
- H2 2025 Lifestyle credit
- H2 2025 Airline credit
- H2 2025 Fashion credit
On 1 January 2026, you’ll receive the following credits, which need to be spent by 30 June 2026:
- H1 2026 Local Dining credit
- H1 2026 Overseas Dining credit
- H1 2026 Lifestyle credit
- H1 2026 Airline credit
- H1 2026 Fashion credit
Each month, you’ll also receive the S$17 Entertainment credit.
When the time comes to pay the 2nd year’s membership fee in April 2026, you’ll have enjoyed a total of S$1,929 in credits, split into:
- S$300 Local Dining credits
- S$300 Overseas Dining credits
- S$600 Lifestyle credits
- S$300 Airline credits
- S$225 Fashion credits
- S$204 Entertainment credits
At this point, you’re free to cancel the card if you wish.
Q: Do I still earn points for the full amount of spend, or is there an offset for the amount covered by statement credits?
You will earn points for the full amount of spend; the statement credit does not lead to a deduction in points.
Q: Do supplementary cardholders enjoy statement credits?
No. Supplementary cardholders cannot register for statement credits, nor will their spending trigger the statement credits.
Q: Why wasn’t my full Overseas Dining Credit rebated?
If you spend <S$100 on overseas dining, you might notice that not the entire amount of your spend was rebated via a statement credit.
That’s because the statement credit does not apply to the 3.25% foreign currency transaction fee that applies to all AMEX cards.
Q: Must I pay by a specific method to enjoy the statement credits?
No. Statement credits will be triggered regardless of how you pay, e.g. card swipe, tapping the physical card, adding the card to a mobile wallet and then paying with your phone.
AMEX Platinum Credit Card Lifestyle credit
While it’s not the main focus of this post, I wanted to briefly touch on the S$200 Lifestyle credit available to AMEX Platinum Credit Card members.
This is significantly easier to use because of the wide range of participating dining and retail merchants, all of which are in Singapore.
For example, you could spend the Lifestyle credit at 15 Stamford, Barossa Steak & Grill, Burger & Lobster, Cali, Entrepot, and Sen of Japan, to name a few. Many of the restaurants on the list are also Love Dining partners, which means you can further stack the discounts.
To illustrate:
- A couple of two spends S$166.80 on food
- The 50% discount reduces that to S$83.40
- After 10% service charge and 9% GST, the final bill comes to S$100, which will be perfectly offset by the Lifestyle credit
Even if you don’t care for dining out, the Lifestyle credit can be spent at numerous retail outlets including Benjamin Barker, Calvin Klein, Decathlon, Lululemon, Marks and Spencer, Muji, and Uniqlo.
Basically, it’s just a lot more flexible than the limited categories and merchants the AMEX Platinum Charge tries to shoehorn you into. And all this from a card that’s less than 20% the cost!
Conclusion
The 2025 Platinum Statement Credits are the same as 2024’s in quantum, but qualitatively, a lot has changed.
First, the shift to half-year credits doubles the cognitive load on cardholders, making it harder to fully utilise everything. There will certainly be more breakage due to forgetfulness, or simply the inability to take an overseas trips in each of the half yearly periods.
Second, the number of restaurants where the Local Dining credit can be used has been cut in half, and the remaining options are mostly fine dining establishments where S$100 won’t go very far.
Third, the S$300 minimum spend to trigger the Airline credit must now be clocked in a single transaction, making it harder to use for award redemptions which fall below the threshold.
2025 is already shaping up to be a rough year for AMEX Platinum Charge cardmembers, with nerfs aplenty. Unless American Express has something special up its sleeve, there could very well be a mass exodus in the months to come.
Any questions about the AMEX Platinum Charge’s statement credits?
can the $200 local dining statement credit be stacked with the 2 x $50 JAAN vouchers?
I donโt see the offers in my app? Just got the card today
it takes about a week to appear
Does the statement credits spend add towards the qualifying 6k spend?
Am wondering the same thing
Regarding changing payment currency to SGD via SIAโs website to trigger the $200 Airline credit, I don’t find that option available now (for example if I buy an airline ticket from ICN to SIN). Any ideas or suggestions?
You are going to need a PhD soon to fully-utilize the benefits for AMEX Plat
Indeed. For a freaking premium card catered to high income earners, I need to waste my time trying to see how I can utilize the benefit (save money). What a waste!
Will be dumping this card after I redeem all my accumulated points.
I am glad to have given up and cancelled my card in December. Instead of making our lives easier, this is causing way too much administrative and logistics hassle. Ideal for someone who doesn’t need to work, and make it Amex Charge Debit card
Given all these nerfs, is there other better lifestyle cards? what keep people on this card? Kind of regret renewing for another year now just for some retention bonus..
Will be dumping this card after I redeem all my accumulated points. This has been a big time waster more than anything and it is no longer worth it to keep referring to what rewards I can avail, and whether 6 months is up or something. All this to just to get some value from the card. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Mr Porter “mrp10pmx” does not seem to work anymore. Have already tried in-cognito. Any ideas?
