KrisFlyer miles can now be converted into yuu Rewards points

KrisFlyer miles can now be converted to yuu Points, but with an implicit value of just 0.6 cents per mile, it's one of the worst ways of redeeming them.

Back in October 2024, yuu Rewards Club added Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer as a points transfer partner, with a conversion ratio that transformed the DBS yuu Card into an outstanding 10 mpd option within the yuu ecosystem.

Now, KrisFlyer has reciprocated by adding conversions in the opposite direction, from KrisFlyer miles into yuu Points. However, unlike the previous announcement which broke the internet for a few days, I highly doubt this will elicit the same sort of excitementโ€” because itโ€™s one of the worst ways of spending your KrisFlyer miles.

KrisFlyer miles can now be converted into yuu Points

From 1 April 2025, KrisFlyer miles can be converted into yuu Points at a ratio of 1 mile = 1.325 yuu Points.

KrisFlyer miles yuu Points
1 mile 1.325 points
Min conversion block: 2,000 KrisFlyer miles

A minimum conversion of 2,000 KrisFlyer miles is required, after which transfers can be made in single-mile increments. Conversions are free of charge, and processed instantly

1 yuu Point is worth 0.5 cents (though you can occasionally get slightly better value with one of the programmeโ€™s โ€œSuper Duperโ€ redemptions), so converting KrisFlyer miles into yuu Points is equivalent to accepting a value of 0.66 cents per mile. I hope I donโ€™t need to tell you that this is absolutely dismal value!

Members can convert a maximum of 80,000 KrisFlyer miles to yuu Points per calendar year, but given the poor value, anyone who exchanges that many needs serious help.

How does this compare to other redemption options?

Even if you have no intention of redeeming an award flight, a value of 0.66 cents per mile ranks poorly compared to other KrisFlyer redemption options.

๐Ÿ’ฐ KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Value

In fact, if you really must liquidate your miles on the ground, then Kris+ would offer a wider range of merchants and marginally better value than yuu Points at 0.67 cents per mile. So really, I canโ€™t think of any reason why youโ€™d want to take advantage of this option (or, more accurately, let this option take advantage of you).

yuu Points to KrisFlyer miles are a better idea

While converting KrisFlyer miles into yuu Points is a bad idea, transfers in the opposite direction are certainly worth considering.

As a reminder, 3.6 yuu Points can be converted into 1 KrisFlyer mile, via the yuu app.

yuu Points KrisFlyer miles
3.6 points 1 mile
Min conversion block: 200 yuu Points

A minimum conversion of 200 yuu Points is required, after which transfers can be made in single-mile increments. Conversions are free of charge, and processed instantly.

There is no annual cap on conversions from yuu Points to KrisFlyer miles.

Conversions in this direction entail an opportunity cost of 1.52 cents, which is reasonable enough, but not necessarily a must-do.

โ“ Why isnโ€™t the opportunity cost 1.8 cents?

If itโ€™s a choice between 18% rebates or 10 mpd, then isnโ€™t the implicit cost per mile 1.8 cents?

Not exactly. First, itโ€™s important to remember that even though the yuu Card is often referred to as a cashback card, yuu Points arenโ€™t the same as unrestricted cashbackโ€” they can only be spent within the yuu ecosystem. To the extent that you donโ€™t have anything else to buy with your points, then conversions to KrisFlyer miles at least give you an outlet youโ€™ll (hopefully) never grow tired of.

Second, if you used your points to offset spending at yuu merchants, that would also incur an opportunity cost in terms of foregone miles. For example, if you spend S$600 and use the 21,600 yuu Points as S$108 cashback, you will miss the opportunity to earn a further 1,080 miles (S$108 @ 10 mpd). Therefore, you are sacrificing 7,080 miles for S$108, not 6,000 miles, and the opportunity cost drops to 1.52 cents.

The relatively small conversion blocks make yuu Points a great way of performing a surgical top-up to a KrisFlyer account, without the unwieldy 10,000 miles blocks that most banks require.

โšก Smallest Top-Up Blocks for KrisFlyer
Method Minimum Block Conversion Fees
Kris+ 1 mile None
VOYAGE Miles 1 mile S$27.25
LinkPoints 50 miles None
yuu points 55 miles None
DBS points via Kris+ 200 miles None
AMEX MR points 250 miles None
CapitaStars 380 miles None
InstaPoints 400 miles None

Conclusion

KrisFlyer members can now transfer miles to yuu Points, but the transfer ratio is fundamentally unattractive, valuing your miles at just 0.66 cents each.

Iโ€™m struggling to think of a reason why anyone would do this, really. Even if your miles were about to expire and you had no travel plans, there are still ways of getting superior value by redeeming them on other on-ground options.

Of course, the first-best option is to save your miles for First and Business Class redemptions, so hopefully thatโ€™s what youโ€™re doing!
