As more hotels get approved for staycations, we’re seeing an increasing number of deals flooding the market. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, and because not every deal’s a good one, there’s some landmines to avoid!ย
In this series of posts, I’m going to highlight what I think are the best deals for each price segment, so staycationers of all budgets have options. Deals aren’t static, so I’ll periodically update these posts as new ones pop up and old ones get nerfed.ย
You can find additional resources on The Milelion’s Staycation Portal.
โ How have hotels been segmented? |
I’m adopting the same four segments that the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) uses for its statistics reporting. The STB classifies hotels into four segments based on average room rates, location and product characteristics:ย
Although the STB doesn’t provide a specific list of which hotel falls into what category, I’m using their guidelines plus the average price points of each segment to determine classification. |
Capella Hotel

With 112 rooms and villas set across 30 acres of landscaped grounds, the Capella is quite possibly the most expensive hotel in all of Singapore- but for good reason. I mean, if the place is deemed worthy of hosting Trump-Kim…
The Sentosa Staycation package (S$734 nett) puts youย in a base-level Premier Garden room, with breakfast and a S$100 F&B credit to bring the overall cost down. As far as Capella standards go, this is relatively cheap.
There is an even lower rate Sunday to Friday rate of S$647 nett that’s available only to RSVP clients– check with your company HR department or recreation club if you’re eligible (MOE teachers are, for example). This includes breakfast, but no F&B credit. |
A couple of weeks ago, Capella was offering a “villa experience” package for S$810 nett which was arguably an even better deal, given that villas normally go for S$1,083 nett a night. Sadly, that’s no longer available, but if it pops up again I’ll be sure to add it here.ย
Marina Bay Sands

The Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool selfie is a cliche, but it’s a cliche for a reason. There’s something quite special about taking a dip in the world’s largest infinity pool, and if you (like me) haven’t done it yet, this may be your best opportunity yet.
As an added bonus, Phase 2 restrictions mean they’ll have to cap the number of people at the pool, so it won’t be the madhouse it tends to be. MBS has introduced a queue system for the pool, so be sure to register your spot early.ย
The Sands Staycation package costs S$399 nett, but you get a S$50 credit you can use for F&B, plus free parking (which can be prohibitively expensive otherwise).ย

A suite at the Mandarin Oriental for just S$457 nett? Yes, and it’s not a mistake rate. You can book the “Kids Stay Free, Fun For Whole Family” (what a mouthful) package and enjoy breakfast plus a family activity at Kiztopia at the neighboring Marina Square.ย
And no, you don’t need progeny to book this package.ย

What more can be said about the famous Raffles Hotel? It’s only the most storied hotel in all of Singapore, and just last August finished a major two year renovation.
It’d be an understatement to say that the Raffles Hotel isn’t cheap, but the Suite Life promotion brings the stratospheric prices into more realistic territory.ย
For S$936 nett, guests will get two nights in a State Room Suite, complete with breakfast and a S$100 hotel credit. A further 15% also applies to all dining (good chance to try that famous Singapore Sling), and they’ll upgrade your room if possible.ย Put it another way: it’s probably the cheapest opportunity you’ll ever have to stay at the Raffles.ย
I’ve personally booked this package (using my AMEX points to offset the cost), and can’t wait to review the hotel.ย
Shangri-La Hotel Singapore

The Shangri-La may be getting on in years, but it’s still one of the heavyweights in the Singapore luxury hotel scene. Surrounded by lush gardens and on the edge of Orchard Road, it’s great for those who want to be near the action but not in the middle of it.ย
Trip.com is selling a deep discount Shangri-La staycation package for a limited time, with a one night stay, 2p.m check-out, 20% off F&B and a guaranteed upgrade to a Garden Wing City View Room for S$265 nett.ย
There’s a “full-fat” deal for those who want more in the form of the Valley Wing Indulgence package for S$759 nett (it used to be S$618 nett, sadly). This boasts unlimited all-day champagne, daily canapes plus a 90-minute massage for two.ย

The Capitol Kempinski resides in the restored Capitol Building, nestled in the heart of Singapore’s civic district. It also happens to house one of my favourite restaurants- 15 Stamford (AMEX Platinum members get up to 50% off with Love Dining).ย
Trip.com is selling a S$588 nett package, which is one of the cheaper rates I’ve seen for this hotel. This comes with 2 nights, breakfast, a S$50 F&B credit and 3 p.m check-out (upon availability).ย
Be advised, however, that the saltwater relaxation pool is closed at the moment, and guests will be redirected to alternative pool facilities at the adjacent Eden Residences in the interim.ย
The Fullerton Hotel

The Fullerton Hotel is housed in a neoclassical building from 1928 that used to be Singapore’s General Post Office. It’s one of only three hotels in Singapore designated as national monuments (the other two being The Raffles and Goodwood Park Hotel).ย
Entry-level rooms here can normally cost upwards of S$410++ a night, which is why the Luxury of Time package is such a great deal. For S$447 nett, you’ll get one night’s accommodation in a Heritage Room, 11 a.m check-in and 6 p.m check-out, breakfast and a S$150 dining credit.
However, if you don’t care about the early check-in/late check-out and just want the cheapest deal, consider the Pure Relaxation package. Available to HSBC, Mindchamps, and Starhub customers (there could well be more, these are just the ones I could find), this S$320 nett package has breakfast and an S$80 dining credit.ย
Conclusion
If you see any other great staycation deals, do send them over to me via this link and I’ll take a look.ย
Stay tuned for other picks from across the price spectrum.ย
Shangri-La’s Trip.com deal for $306 is for the Tower wing room which is nothing like the picture. Maybe good to mention that’s a Valley wing room or people will be disappointed
updated, thanks!
I called to enquire and Shangri-la’s Tower Wing is currently not available for booking so I am not sure how the Trip.com deal applies.
Will Kempinski acknowledge gha black status if the room were booked thru trip.com. thank you
you will need to check this with the hotel.
Hahaha Shangrila recently raise the price for Valley Wing Indulgence, while the original price was around 550+ which is a nice deal.
indeed. some of these deals aren’t as sweet as they were 2 weeks ago (eg capella villa experience nerfed, shangri-la increasing the prices of most of its package). perhaps demand was better than they estimated.
Aaron. At present, I am a Hilton Gold member. In your opinion, will it ok to use my hilton points for my staycation in Singapore. Thanks.
There’s not a single Hilton property approved for staycations yet. Once they are open to that they will likely have better cash offers than the ones paying with points, but that’s speculation.
Have to say these aren’t the sweetest deals they could do. Probably because of summer holidays and people being starved for a change in scenery, but I would expect better deals if they really expect residents to fill more than 10% of available beds….
Yes, this is only the normal average rate of the package before COVID19, they need to made more effort to attract more local customer.
Raffles is pretty similar in regards to the pool queuing. They implemented a booking system for the pool and gym. Each room is entitled to 90 minutes/day/ for each. So good luck forecasting the weather ๐
Luxury of Time is valid for one year, no need to book by 31 Aug 2020.
**Voucher validity is for twelve months from the date of purchase.
you need to buy the voucher by 31 august 2020
