DBS Extra Bonus Day: Earn 8% cashback with online food delivery & hawker meals

Mark your calendars for DBS Extra Bonus Day on Sunday 6 June, with 8% cashback for online dining and hawkers, on top of credit card rewards.

The following is a sponsored post by DBS Bank. The opinions and analysis remain that of The Milelion.

Dining out is one of the things I miss most under Phase 2 (HA), but for the upcoming weekend, DBS is looking to brighten the dine-at-home experience with Extra Bonus Day, a one-day-only promotion on Sunday 6 June 2021.

DBS Extra Bonus Day

DBS/POSB Cardmembers and DBS PayLah! users will enjoy 8% cashback for online dining and hawker center takeaways, on top of the usual rewards. No registration is required; all that’s necessary is to order food online or visit your favourite hawker stalls to takeaway meals.

On 6 June 2021, DBS and POSB Cardmembers will enjoy an extra 8% cashback when they order food online and pay with their card.

No minimum spend is required, and the maximum cashback is capped at S$8 per cardmember (regardless of how many DBS/POSB cards he/she has). In other words, you’ll max out this promotion with S$100 of spending.

This 8% cashback is awarded on top of whatever miles/ cashback/ DBS points/ POSB Daily$ you’d normally earn with your DBS/POSB credit/debit cards.

What counts as online dining?

Online dining spend refers to internet or in-app transactions made at merchants with the following MCCs:

MCC Examples
(Non-exhaustive)
5811: Caterers Stamford Catering, Tian Wei Signature
5812: Eating Places and Restaurants Chope, Deliveroo, foodpanda, GrabFood
5813: Bars, Cocktail Lounges Clink Clink, Zouk
5814: Fast Food Domino’s Pizza, KFC, McDelivery
5422: Meat Markets GoodCrop, Song Fish, The Butcher
5441: Sweets, Nuts, Confectionery Bacha Coffee, Laderach
5451: Dairy Products DairyFolks
5462: Bakeries Baker’s Brew, Edith Patisserie
5499: Misc. Food Shops Nespresso
5921: Package Shops- Beer, Wine, Spirits Crystal Wines, Paneco

As you can see, DBS is casting a very wide net beyond just the usual restaurants and food delivery apps. You could order from bakeries, ice cream shops, or even frozen food suppliers (but not supermarkets, take note). Alternatively, you could leverage this promotion to stock up on Nespresso capsules, since MCC 5499 is included.

If you’re in doubt about the MCC of a particular merchant, it’s possible to look it up using the Visa Supplier Locator. Remember: all orders must be made online. If you head to a restaurant directly to order, you will not qualify for the bonus cashback.

DBS Extra Bonus Day: PayLah!

If you’d prefer to go down on the ground to say hello to your favourite hawkers, there’s a separate promotion available.

On 6 June 2021, DBS PayLah! users will be able to earn 8% cashback (capped at S$1) on their first merchant or hawker transaction on the app (excluding ComfortDelGro, Gojek and Google Pay), with no minimum spend.

The rebate will be maxed out with a spend of S$12.50, but that’s probably about the limit of what you’d be spending at a hawker centre anyway (bring a family member along if you need to double the cap). This offer is capped at the first 350,000 PayLah! users.

There’s further opportunities to support hawkers throughout the month too. From now till 30 June 2021, DBS PayLah! customers will enjoy free delivery or discounts with WhyQ, an online platform that serves more than 2,500 hawker stalls island wide with no commissions.

WhyQ offers two types of delivery:

  • On-demand, where orders are sent to you ASAP
  • Advance, where you pre-select a timeslot 3+ hours in the future

For on-demand orders, customers paying with PayLah! can use the code PAYLAHFREE to enjoy free delivery with a minimum order of S$20, limited to the first 300 redemptions per day.

For advance orders, first time WhyQ customers paying with PayLah! can enjoy S$6 off (min. spend S$10) with the code WHYQNEW, while existing WhyQ customers paying with PayLah! can enjoy S$2 off (min. spend S$6) with the code PLWHYQ. These codes are each capped at the first 500 redemptions daily, and the full T&C can be found here.

To sweeten the deal further, S$1 from every PayLah! transaction made on WhyQ goes back directly to the hawker stall from now till 30 June 2021.

If you don’t already have a PayLah! account, you can get S$5 free when you download and register with the promo code FIVELAH (T&C apply)

Conclusion

DBS is offering a range of additional dining deals for various restaurants and food delivery platforms, which you can check out here. Some interesting ones include 50% off your weekday lunch order with foodpanda (use code DBS50, capped at S$9 per order) and up to S$6 off ChopeDeals dining vouchers.

I’ve been ordering in or cooking (or reheating!) most of my meals during this period, but I think I’ll get out of the house this Sunday to revisit a couple of my favourite hawker haunts and say hi. You can support the campaign with the tag #DBSExtraBonusDay

Be on the lookout for further DBS offers and surprises in the upcoming months for credit cards and PayLah! users.
