One of the biggest perks of the American Express Platinum cards is the Love Dining and Chillax programme, which gives cardholders up to 50% off food and 1-for-1 drinks at numerous restaurants and bars around Singapore.

Used judiciously, the savings can more than offset the annual fee, which starts from S$321 for the basic AMEX Platinum Credit Card.
From now till 30 November 2021, American Express is running a special offer for Milelion readers: A S$300 statement credit upon paying the first year’s non-waivable S$321 annual fee.
Viewed another way, it’s basically paying S$21 for a full year’s worth of Love Dining and Chillax perks.

From 11 October to 30 November 2021, applicants who sign up through the link above will receive a S$300 statement credit upon payment of the S$321 annual fee. For avoidance of doubt, this annual fee cannot be waived.
๐ก AMEX Platinum Charge members can get either the AMEX Platinum Credit Card or Platinum Reserve for free, but they’re much better off getting the Reserve for its 2-night hotel voucher |
There is no new-to-card requirement for this offer, so it’s fine if you already hold other American Express cards.
The S$300 statement credit will be awarded to the card member within 12 weeks from approval. Do note that applicants who sign up for this offer will not be entitled to to the regular S$200 statement credit + Fullerton Hotel staycation offer I’ve written about here.
If you prefer dining over staycations, or don’t think you can clock S$5,000 spend in the first 3 months of approval, then the S$300 statement credit offer will suit you better.
AMEX Love Dining & Chillax
The Love Dining program is one of the biggest draws of the AMEX Platinum Credit Card, allowing members to save up to 50% on food at more than 30 restaurants and hotels across Singapore.
Number of Diners | Discount on Food Bill |
Card member | 15%^ |
Card member + 1 guest | 50% |
Card member + 2 guests | 35%^ |
Card member + 3 guests | 25% |
Card member + 4-9 guests | 20% |
^10% and 33% respectively at Fairmont Singapore, Swissotel The Stamford, Swissotel Merchant Court |
The full list of participating restaurants can be found below:

Each diner must order at least one qualifying food item (usually a main course) to enjoy the discount. Blackout dates apply (namely public holidays and eve of public holidays, plus special occasions like Valentine’s Day), and the full T&C can be found here.
What I particularly like about Love Dining is that it’s not 1-for-1, it’s 50% off. With 1-for-1, you only get the cheaper item free, and everything else you buy is at the regular price.
With 50% off, you save on everything (except drinks)- appetizers, mains, desserts. No more feeling compelled to order a more expensive item because your partner did, and at more upscale restaurants, the savings can easily add up to S$100+ per visit.
AMEX Platinum cardholders also enjoy 1-for-1 drinks and special offers with Chillax. My favourite place to go is Anti:dote at Fairmont Singapore, where one glass of champagne costs S$17 and I get the second for free, plus a further 20% off- effectively paying S$17.89 nett for two (generous) pours.

For those who love dining (sorry, lazy writing), AMEX’s latest offer give you 12 months of Love Dining and Chillax perks for just S$21. It’s cheaper (and dare I say better) than buying a copy of The Entertainer, and you’ll easily earn back your outlay.
This offer is valid till 30 November 2021, so be sure to apply before then.
I have always been able to waive my AMEX platinum $321 fee (with a usage of about once a month). But of course i don’t receive the vouchers
This is why I find it odd that Aaron valued the love dining & chillax benefits at $550 in his plat charge renewal analysis. The savings are indeed great but you can get them at almost no cost via the platinum credit card so they should IMO be excluding when trying to calculate the incremental value of paying $1712 for the plat charge.
When I calculate value, I ask myself: How much did I get out of the card in the past 12 months? My savings from LD/chillax were $550 based on actual use. Had I gotten the amex platinum credit card instead, I would be taking the same $550 and comparing it to whatever I paid for annual fee.
Same here, I have used this card for at least 5 yrs without paying a single cent. Likely he earns that $21
good for you! and for the record, I am indifferent to people signing up for this offer or the fullerton hotel offer.
what’s slightly funny is that a previous article I wrote mentioned the AMEX Platinumc card’s annual fee could be waived in certain cases, and I got an angry email from a lady saying she didn’t get a waiver and I was lying to get her to sign up for the card!
can’t please everyone…
yeah but you’re taking the perspective of someone who already holds the card. this article is written for new to card customers, who will not get the same kind of waiver.
can’t remember if it applies to amex; but when they say 80k min income for application, are they strict on that? or like other credit cards where the higher required income is arbitary?
You can probably get it with 50k
50k is fine, based on data points.
I was approved at 30k
Hi Aaron,
I applied for the Amex Platinum card via your offer link yesterday and received a call from Amex this morning. They mentioned that this offer ($300 statement credit upon paying annual fee) is only available to new-to-bank customers, not for existing Amex cardholders.
Would you be able to confirm?
so long as you don’t already hold an amex platinum credit card (i.e. the one in this article), you will be eligible. T&C are very clear on this, so there’s no need to worry.
if you want someone from amex to give you a call to confirm this, reach out to me via contact us
Thanks Aaron! I read the T&Cs and realized that it excludes conversion of an existing card into Amex Platinum. CSO told me that since I am holding max 3 cards (Ascend, Capita, TCB), I can still get the card by converting but will not get the statement credits. Do you know if I were to cancel one of the cards, then apply again later this month/next month, will I be eligible for the offer? Thanks again!
Anyone received this statement benefit yet?
