Citi Prestige extends 48,000 miles sign-up bonus

Expired

From now till 31 July 2023, get 48,000 bonus miles with just S$800 spend on a new Citi Prestige Card- even if you're an existing Citi cardholder.

Citibank has extended its 120,000 ThankYou points (48,000 miles) sign-up bonus for the Citi Prestige, which is now valid for applications submitted between by 31 July 2023.

The minimum spend remains attractively low at just S$800 in the first two months after approval and the offer is open to both new and existing Citi credit cardholders. However, do note that from 2 May 2023, no-fee Citi PayAll transactions no longer count towards qualifying spend.

That’s a shame, though it always seemed a little too good to be true!

Citi Prestige 48,000 miles sign-up offer

T&Cs

From 2 May to 31 July 2023, new Citi Prestige cardholders will receive 120,000 ThankYou points (equivalent to 48,000 miles) when they:

  • Apply online for a Citi Prestige Card
  • Get approved within 30 days from application
  • Pay the S$540 annual fee
  • Spend at least S$800 on eligible transactions within the first 2 months after approval

This offer is valid for anyone who has not cancelled a Citi Prestige Card in the past 12 months. You are eligible even if you currently hold another principal Citi card.

Bonus points are awarded on top of the regular base earn rate, so if you spend the S$800 entirely on local transactions, you’ll receive a total of 49,040 miles:

  • 1,040 miles for spending S$800 (@ 1.3 mpd)
  • 48,000 miles for meeting the minimum spend and paying the annual fee

Do note that cardholders normally receive 25,000 miles for paying the annual fee, so the true bonus component here is 23,000 miles.

What counts as qualifying spending?

Successful applicants must spend S$800 within the first 2 months after approval, otherwise known as the qualifying period.

The qualifying period runs from the approval date and two full calendar months following that. For example, those approved on 8 May 2023 will have until 31 July 2023 to meet the minimum spend.

In other words, you actually have 2-3 months to hit the minimum spend, and should apply as early in the month as possible to maximise your time.

Qualifying spend excludes the following:

โŒ Qualifying Spend Exclusions
(i) any Equal Payment Plan (EPP) purchases,
(ii) refunded/disputed/unauthorised/fraudulent retail purchases,
(iii) Quick Cash and other instalment loans,
(iv) Citi PayLite/Citi Flexibill/cash advance/quasi-cash transactions/balance transfers/annual card membership fees/interest/goods and services taxes,
(v) bill payments made using the Eligible Card as a source of funds,
(vi) late payment fees and
(vii) any other form of service/ miscellaneous fees
(vii) Citi PayAll transactions where the customer is not charged the Citi PayAll service fee

For avoidance of doubt, Citi PayAll transactions will count towards qualifying spend, but only if the admin fee is paid. Prior to 2 May 2023, even no-fee payments would count as qualifying spend!

Citi PayAll currently supports the following payments:

๐Ÿ’ฐ Citi PayAll: Supported Payments
  • Education Fees
  • Taxes
  • Rent
  • Insurance Premiums
  • Renovation Fees
  • Property Agent Fees
  • Wedding Expenses
  • Condo Management Fees
  • Child Care Services
  • Domestic Helper Service Fees
  • Donation or Charity Payment
  • Electricity Bills
  • Event Management Fees
  • Membership Fees
  • Maintenance Fees
  • Medical Services
  • Payment for Retail Goods and Services
  • Parking
  • Professional Services Fees
  • Storage
  • Travel Expenses
  • Transport Fees
  • Utilities

Don’t forget that Citi is currently offering 2.2 mpd on Citi PayAll transactions, subject to a minimum spend of S$8,000 from now till 20 August 2023. This represents an opportunity to buy miles at 1 cent each (given a 2.2% admin fee), and could be an attractive way of paying your income tax this year.

For the full details, refer to the article below.

Citi PayAll offering 2.2 mpd earn rate (but hikes admin fee)

When will the miles be credited?

The 120,000 ThankYou points will be credited within three calendar months from the end of the qualifying spend period.

For example, if your card is approved in May 2023, your qualifying spend period ends 31 July 2023 and the points will be credited by 31 October 2023.

Terms and conditions

The T&Cs of this offer can be found here.

What can you do with ThankYou points?

Citi ThankYou points are extremely flexible, with a total of 11 different transfer partners to choose from.

Points can be transferred to miles in blocks of 25,000 Thank You points (10,000 miles). There are some great sweet spots with programmes like British Airways Executive Club, Turkish Miles&Smiles, and Qatar Privilege Club.

Partner Transfer Ratio
(ThankYou Points: Miles)

25,000:10,000

Transfers cost a flat S$27, regardless of the number of points converted.  Citibank does not pool points across cards, so if you have both a Citi Prestige and Citi Rewards, for example, you’ll need to pay two conversion fees.

ThankYou points earned on the Citi Prestige Card never expire.

Cardholder Terms and Conditions

The Citi Prestige Card earns 1.3 mpd on local transactions and 2 mpd on foreign currency transactions, which can be further buffed through a “relationship bonus” described below.

๐Ÿ‘ซ Relationship Bonus

The Citi Prestige card features a “relationship bonus” which awards 5-30% more points depending on your tenure with Citibank, and whether you have Citigold status.

Contrary to popular belief, a 5% bonus does not mean you earn 1.3 * 1.05 = 1.37 mpd. Instead, the relationship bonus percentage is applied to your overall dollar spend amount to derive bonus points. For example, if you spend S$10,000 in a year with a 5% bonus, you get 5% * 10,000= 500 bonus points, or a paltry 200 miles. The bump in mpd is a mere 0.02!

Here’s how much you can earn on local/overseas spending with the relationship bonus:

Non-Citigold Citigold
0-5 years: 1.32/2.02 0-5 years: 1.36/2.06
6-10 years: 1.34/2.04 6-10 years: 1.38/2.08
>10 years: 1.36/2.06 >10 years: 1.42/2.12

Cardholders enjoy perks like unlimited lounge access (+1 guest), and complimentary airport limo transfers with a minimum spend of S$12,000 per calendar quarter. They will also receive the 4th night free on any hotel booking made through the Citi Prestige concierge, so there’s definitely ways to recover your annual fee.

Other perks include 1-for-1 dining offers at high-end restaurants in Singapore, complimentary golf games, and complimentary travel insurance when using the card to pay for air tickets (or taxes and surcharges on award tickets).

Accidental Death S$1,000,000
Medical Expenses S$50,000
Travel Inconvenience Flight Delay: S$400
Baggage Delay: S$400
Lost Baggage: S$1,000
Policy Wording

Conclusion

Citibank has once again extended its sign-up offer for the Citi Prestige Card, with new cardholders enjoying 48,000 bonus miles when they spend S$800 within 2 months of approval and pay the S$540 annual fee.

This works out to paying 1.13 cents per mile, even less once you factor in the value of the lounge, limo and other benefits.

Existing Citi cardholders are eligible too, so be sure to sign up by 31 July 2023 if you’re interested.

Does exclusion xi “transit related transactions” mean air ticket purchases are not eligible…?

lifeonthego

no, they are eligible.

Ivan Kee

Hi, can I clarify, I have never had a Citi prestige card before, so Iโ€™ll be eligible for the 120K thank you points even if Iโ€™m currently holding a Citi PremierMiles card?

lifeonthego

no, this offer is clearly stated as “New To Bank”, which you are not.

I see. Thanks

Haoming

Oh no come back! The T&Cs have been updated

D K

Hi Aaron, does it mean I can cancel my existing Citibank cards (CRV, CRM, Premiermiles) today and then apply for the Prestige card tmrw and still qualify for this promotion? Thanks.

Benjamin

Has anyone used the hotel credits recently?
I just made a few bookings for my stay in October and the folks at citi tell me that I can’t use my hilton honors number for benefits.

Is this true?

Tyl

Interested to know as well. So if use citi 4th night free booking via citi, not able to enjoy hilton elite member benefits like free upgrade and breakfast?

Benjamin

But it’s not supposed to be this way. I specifically told then to book via hilton…sigh.

Looks like I’ll have to cancel this card

Benjamin

Ok…wrote to them. The cso replied and apologized and added my Hilton membership

iwan

You can get hilton point, but I dont think you can get the benefits. HH benefits only applicable if you direct book with Hilton.

Dan L

Hi Milelion, how does this promo compare to others seen before? i.e. within the past 1-2 years

Tan

Hi Milelion, I showed a screenshot of this promotion post and this is Citibank CSO reply “Based on checking here, we already received the screenshot you sent us and they said that the promotion was not a promotion offered by Citibank. It’s a third party promotion that was not legitimate and Citibank was not part of it”.

๐Ÿ˜… did I get it wrong? Omg Citibank really need educate their CS.

Tan

The reply was from Christian (Citibank CSO)

Santhosh

Hi Aaron. Early in the article you write, โ€œ This offer is valid for anyone who has not cancelled a Citi Prestige Card in the past 12 months, even if you currently hold another principal Citi cardโ€, but in the conclusion you write, โ€œ This is an altogether richer sign-up offer than last monthโ€™s, albeit with slightly stricter eligibility criteria (cannot hold any principal Citi cards at time of application).โ€ Reading the T&Cs, it seems you are correct in the first instances. Can you please clarify?

Santhosh

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification.

ctupintheair

Hi, may I clarify again – current Citi premier card holder (non Prestige card holder) is eligible for the offer?

Kevin

โ€œEligible Cardmemberโ€ refers to an individual who: i. has applied for the Eligible Card through an on-line acquisition channel; and ii. does not have an Eligible Card (as a main cardmember) at the time of his/her application for the Eligible Card; and iii. did not previously have an Eligible Card (as a main cardmember) that was terminated/closed (whether by the individual or by Citibank) in the last twelve (12) months immediately prior to his/her application for the Eligible Card; and iv. has not already submitted an application for an Eligible Card as a main cardmember, which is pending approval, at… Read more »

Kevin

based on TnC, you r eligible if you do not have Citi PRestige card past 12 mths

Eric

Sent a message to Citibank and they insisted that since I was holding another Citibank card, I was not eligible for this promotion.
Anyone here managed to actually get the bonus while they had another card at the point of application?

Their own T&C clearly states that the cardholder must not hold the Eligible Card within the last 12 months (which they defined as the Prestige card), so it’s not any other card that I could be holding. Trying to argue this with them..

C n

I’m having this issue as well. Application in August 2022 and did not receive the bonus, nothing at all!

Just forwarded CSO the PDF t&c here plus screenshot of card opening/ approval date hoping for positive outcome.

Yiwei

Did you manage to get the bonus? Want to apply but am hesitant if I have to chase for the welcome bonus in 3 months

Jtsy

Hi can I check whether u manage to obtain the miles as contemplating on the sign up. Thanks.

Confused

So existing holders of Citi cards like Citi Rewards entitled to full bonus points or just New To Bank? Think many experience frustration on this.

Confused

Thanks, Aaron. I downloaded the Jan 2023 t&c from your link above, just in case. Did see they defined Eligible Card and I never have Citi Prestige before.

sgrkc

Citi prestige concierge no longer books through expedia – was informed by the concierge that they now book through the hotel website or through switchfly (which rates are not publicly available and based on the comparison given to me by the concierge, are much higher than the hotel’s website price). Very disappointed by the change and the fact that the change was done very quietly.

gary

I have the same experience. The 4NF is almost useless now. Major established brands are not listed on Switchfly, and you cannot utilise 4NF if there is no full prepayment option on either Switchfly or the hotel’s official website, which is usually the case. Highly recommend to do another Citi Prestige review with this change.

chk

City Payall transactions count for bonus. That seals it. Pity no pooling of points. It same as others.

AndreasS

Do you know if the bonus is valid if I got a money smart bonus is the last year? For a different citi card. Do not hold a premier card

Revhappy

Is this deal worth it, if you are using the points to just payoff the existing balance and not use it for points? I mean do I get more than $500 cashback?

JY.

Any idea where I can get the list of hotels that qualify under the 4th night free? I’m trying to justify the benefit of $540 annual fee beyond the first year since it is 25K miles thereafter. 4th night hotel stay looks good but it may just be cheaper to pay for all 4 nights (flexibility to choose wherever and book under whatever promos) rather than be locked in to specific hotels and booked only through citi concierge ( I also save $540 if i just cancel the card after the 1st year) Edited: I dont see the T&C specifically… Read more »

Which clause? The words ‘exist’ or ‘existing’ do not even exist in there. I’m aware it is card-based (new to card) , but if its not explicit in black-and-white that existing cardholders (other Citi CCs) are eligible for the promo, then it is not explicit enough (idiot proof) to whomever customer service/staff we need to explain our case to should their backend not be coded properly using card-based and not bank-based logic

Just Passing by

You need to have better T&C reading ability. It is explicit in 1.b definition followed by 1.c 1. Definitions: a) โ€œCitiโ€ or โ€œCitibankโ€ refers to Citibank Singapore Limited. b) โ€œEligible Cardmemberโ€ refers to an individual who: i. has applied for the Eligible Card through an on-line acquisition channel; and ii. does not have an Eligible Card (as a main cardmember) at the time of his/her application for the Eligible Card; and iii. did not previously have an Eligible Card (as a main cardmember) that was terminated/closed (whether by the individual or by Citibank) in the last twelve (12) months immediately… Read more »

LOL

Better don’t apply if you have so many doubts.

JW19

Perhaps the 800 bucks can be spent on a private reading lesson, though hopefully the MCC doesnt clock as education.

Hi All,

Can i know if the perks from this Citi Prestige card (like Hotelux membership, GHA membership) are for one time only? If we renew the annual fee for this card the following year, do we still get these perks another year?

TIA.

Man

Yup interested to know too

JW19

Hotelux one time only, I tried. GHA not too sure, though if you qualify for Citi Prestige why not get the Amex Plat, that gives you permanent GHA plat

Andy

Hi Mile Lion

Was attempting to pay off the Citibank Prestige Card amount via DBS internet banking, but transaction failed. When I called Citibank, I was told there is apparently a hard limit of 50K monthly set by Mastercard to accept payments via this means of payment. Was told to do a cash deposit or AXS payment. Obviously I found this fairly strange. Wanna check if you are aware of this?
