Back in August, GHA DISCOVERY launched the first-ever sale of its DISCOVERY$ (D$) loyalty currency, offering members a 10-15% discount depending on tier.
This sale has now been brought back again, but GHA has made some positive tweaks. The discount is now a flat 15% regardless of tier; the minimum purchase amount is now just D$10, and the annual purchase cap has been doubled to D$3,000.
1 D$ is worth US$1 at GHA DISCOVERY properties, so this is conceptually similar to buying a discounted gift card now for future GHA stays.
Buy GHA DISCOVERY D$ at up to 15% off
GHA DISCOVERY $ Sale |
From 7-21 November 2024, GHA DISCOVERY members can purchase D$ with a discount of 15%, regardless of tier.
- A minimum of D$10 must be purchased in a single transaction
- A maximum of D$1,000 can be purchased in a single transaction
- A maximum of D$3,000 can be purchased in a calendar year
Each member can submit a maximum of three transactions per day, and purchased D$ are valid for 24 months from transaction date.
Purchased D$ should be awarded instantly, but may take up to two business days, and are valid for 24 months from the date of issuance.
D$1= US$1 at GHA properties worldwide, so this is basically locking in a future discount of 15%. In my experience, the conversion rates used at properties are extremely reasonable, and usually close to the spot rate (though I can’t guarantee it’ll be the same everywhere).
You can further stack this discount with whatever discounted rates the hotel is currently offering, or use it on spa treatments or F&B during your stay.
The T&Cs for this promotion can be found here.
How do you earn or redeem D$?
D$ can be earned or redeemed on the following expenses:
โ Eligible Spend to Earn/Redeem D$ | |
Room and add-ons:
|
Food and Beverage at eligible outlets:
Other non-room spend at eligible outlets:
|
Only stays booked through the GHA website or official hotel websites/channels will be eligible to earn D$.
A few pointers about redeeming D$:
- A minimum of D$10 must be spent in a single transaction
- Itโs only possible to use D$ during a stay, at the front desk of a hotel. You cannot redeem D$ online, nor can you spend them on F&B or spa treatments when not an in-house guest. GHA says they are working to add such functionality, but there is no timeline yet as to when it’ll be available
- It is possible to use D$ on prepaid stays however, insofar as the hotel doesn’t actually charge your card at the time of booking (you’d be surprised, many “prepaid stays” aren’t actually charged until check-in). My advice would be to contact the hotel beforehand, let them know you want to book a prepaid rate with D$, and ask them how to proceed
What card should I use to purchase GHA DISCOVERY D$?
GHA D$ purchases will not code as hotel transactions. Instead, they are processed by in USD by Points.com under MCC 7399 Business Services Not Elsewhere Classified.
You can use the following cards to maximise your miles.
Card | Earn Rate | Remarks |
Citi Rewards Card Apply |
4 mpd | Cap of S$1K per s. month |
UOB Visa Signature Apply |
4 mpd | Min S$1K, max S$2K FCY spend per s. month |
Maybank World Mastercard Apply |
3.2 mpd | Min. S$4K per c. month, no cap |
Maybank Horizon Visa Signature Apply |
3.2 mpd (till 31 Jan 25) |
Min S$800 per c. month, no cap |
SCB Visa Infinite Apply |
3 mpd | Min S$2K per s. month, no cap |
UOB PRVI Miles Apply |
2.4 mpd | No cap |
S. Month= Statement Month | C. Month= Calendar Month |
Remember, you can pair the Citi Rewards Card with Amaze to earn 4 mpd on Points.com purchases, while paying lower FCY fees than banks.
I generally don’t advise using the DBS Woman’s World Card for Points.com purchases, as past data points have indicated issues with getting the bonus points credited.
If you have a DBS Altitude Card and have registered for the 5 mpd FCY spend promotion, you can also use those cards for this transaction. Remember, a minimum spend of S$1,000 per calendar month applies to trigger the 5 mpd rate, and there’s also a cap of S$2,000 per calendar month.
Conclusion
From now till 21 November 2024, GHA DISCOVERY members can buy D$ at a discount of 15%, with a reduced minimum purchase amount and an annual purchase limit of up to D$3,000.
The mechanics of this sale are more generous than the previous one we saw in August, with a flat discount regardless of tier, the ability to purchase as little as D$10, and a doubled annual purchase cap. If you have plans for an upcoming GHA stay, think of it like locking in a discount ahead of time.
Will you be buying D$ at a discount?
“D$1= US$1 at GHA properties worldwide, so this is basically locking in a future discount of 15%, depending on tier.”
Should be regardless of tier?
yes, will fix that!
Done, staying this week so topped up the account. Cheers for the post.
I had already booked my accommodation with my credit card and it says will charge to my card upon check-in. Can I still buy D$ to offset my stay?
I still can tell them I want to offset my stay during check-in?
As mentioned in the article, it is worth asking the hotel and see if they allow. Last time I booked a prepaid rate in Thailand, they didn’t allow me to do so, so ymmv.
Just found out that GHA $ can only be used at selected hotels. And they’re predominantly in India, London, Washington D.C. specifically and South Africa. Bad surprise but I felt they should have included these onerous terms in the landing page, or communicated it to you if they were looking for exposure. It’s only upon redemption that most people realize this.
um, that’s not true at all.
Give it a try, you won’t be able to use it on any of the Singapore/Bangkok/China hotels.
Then you try those under Lore Group and Paramount Hotel. It’s a very limited set of hotels that can be redeemed with GHA $.
I’ve redeemed multiple times at Parkroyal and Pan Pacific in SG. Where have you been rejected at?
At the checkout page on GHA website and app there’s no option to click redeem GHA dollars for Pan Pacific hotels but the option only comes up when I pick Lore Group. You redeemed on GHA website or directly on Pan Pacific website?
You may wish to refer to GHA’s description of D$…
