Scoot joining KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes from this month

Scoot will make its debut on KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes this month, offering more discounted redemptions for KrisFlyer members.

Back in August 2025, KrisFlyer introduced an award chart for Scoot, allowing KrisFlyer members to redeem miles for flights on Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary at fixed rates.

However, Scoot has not been part of SIA’s popular monthly Spontaneous Escapes promotion — until now. With the next edition of Spontaneous Escapes set to launch tomorrow, KrisFlyer has teased an “exciting announcement” on Instagram.

This seems pretty unambiguous to me: we can soon expect to redeem discounted Scoot awards, and with regular-priced redemptions starting from just 1,500 miles, there’s the potential for excellent value here.

While Scoot isn’t exactly what you call an aspirational redemption, sometimes all you need is to get from Point A to B.

Scoot joining KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes

May 2026’s Spontaneous Escapes — set to be released tomorrow, 15 April — should feature discounts for selected Scoot flights, alongside Singapore Airlines.

What’s unclear at this point is whether the same 30% discount that applies to Singapore Airlines will also apply to Scoot. I suspect it might be a smaller discount, but I’m willing to be pleasantly surprised!

That said, we should expect the following:

  • Travel must take place the following month, i.e. 1-31 May 2026
  • The discount will be based on regular Scoot Saver award prices
  • No waitlisting will be possible
  • Redemptions will only be offered for Scoot Economy, and not ScootPlus
  • No combining of Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights in a single award booking
  • Awards will be strictly non-refundable and non-changeable

With regards to the last point, it’s worth noting that regular Scoot Saver and Advantage awards are already non-refundable to begin with.

If you were to book a Spontaneous Escapes award on Scoot, what you really lose is the flexibility to change your travel date, which could otherwise be done for a S$60 to S$100 fee (waived for Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members, once per booking). Then again, Spontaneous Escapes are only available for travel in the following month, so you really should have finalised your plans by then.

❓What about Change Your Flight?
It’ll be interesting to see whether members who book Spontaneous Escapes awards on Scoot will have the option of buying the Change Your Flight add-on, which allows for unlimited date or time changes up to four hours prior to departure.

As a reminder, here’s Scoot’s regular award chart, displayed in ‘000s of KrisFlyer miles.

All taxes and surcharges will need to be paid in cash. Airport taxes currently cost S$65.20 for outbound flights from Singapore — with an increase to S$79.20 by 2030 — and Scoot does not add fuel surcharges to award flights.

As for which destinations we’ll see, your guess is as good as mine. I personally would love to see Koh Samui offered, along with other holiday hotspots like Nha Trang and Phu Quoc. Tokyo, Athens, and Vienna would be nice too!

Credit card surcharges are back

If you’re planning to book a Scoot ticket, whether award or commercial, it’s worth remembering that Scoot has reintroduced payment processing fees for card and mobile wallet payments.

These were initially applied to credit cards in February 2025, before being expanded to Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal in September that year. The fee is a standard 2.2% across all such modes of payment.

Card Type Payment Processing Fee
(per transaction)
American Express 2.2%
Japan Credit Bureau (JCB) 2.2%
Mastercard 2.2%
Visa 2.2%
Apple Pay 2.2%
Google Pay 2.2%
PayPal 2.2%

As it stands, the only fee-free payment options for Scoot are:

  • Bookings paid with Alipay
  • Bookings paid entirely with Scoot vouchers
  • Bookings paid entirely with KrisFlyer miles (not award flights; this refers to Miles + Cash bookings)
  • PayNow

The only exception to Scoot’s payment processing fees are flights to and from Malaysia.

Conclusion

Look forward to Spontaneous Escapes redemptions for Scoot, coming this month

This month’s KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes should see Scoot flights featured for the first time, allowing members to redeem discounted awards to destinations not covered by Singapore Airlines.

We’ll need to wait and see how big the discount is, and what destinations are covered, but more choice can only be a good thing.

What Scoot destinations are you hoping to see for Spontaneous Escapes?
