Last 3 days: Receive up to a 100% bonus on IHG points purchases

Purchase IHG Rewards Club points with up to a 100% bonus. Sale ends 11:59am 23 August 2018.

IHG Rewards Club is currently running its points sale where members will be able to receive up to 100% on all purchased points. This points sale is currently ongoing and you have untilย 11:59am 23 August 2018 to buy points with a bonus.

You've unlocked a bonus of 50%

Each members receives unique bonus amount

As per OMAAT, each IHG Rewards Club member will be targeted to receive a certain bonus on all purchased points. My account was targeted for only a 50% bonus and needless to say, I personally won’t be purchasing IHG Rewards Club points at this rate. IHG Rewards Club members can receive up to a 100% bonus on their points purchases and you can see how much of a bonus you are being offered after you log in to your account.ย

I would like to think 50% is the lowest bonus amount which will be offered to IHG Rewards Club members and you can receive a 75% bonus or a 100% bonus for your points purchases. IHG Rewards Club allows you to purchase 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points every calendar year pre-bonus. If like me, you are targeted with a 50% bonus on purchased points, you will be purchasing 150,000 IHG Rewards Club points at a cost of US$1,000. This translate to a cost per point of US 0.67 cents per point.

Here’s how much it’ll cost if you have been targeted with other bonus amounts:

  • 75% bonus : US 0.57 Cents per point
  • 100% bonus : US 0.5 Cents per point

A 100% points bonus is the largest bonus which IHG has always offered during its points sale so if you’re targeted for that offer, you might want to purchase some IHG Rewards Club points if you have an upcoming use for them.

Unlock cheap nights at PointsBreak hotels

IHG is currently holding its PointsBreak promotion as well where nights at participating hotels start as low as 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points. This promotion runs until 30 September 2018 and stays have to be booked and completed by then.

You canย read more about the current IHG PointsBreak promotion here.

Stay at higher end IHG properties for less

Purchasing IHG Rewards Club points can also help to unlock cheaper nights at luxurious properties. Looking at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, paid rates go for about USD677.49 a night pre-tax. Redeeming a room using IHG Rewards Club points will cost you 70,000 IHG Rewards Club points a night and the actual cost per night that you pay will depend on the bonus amount you are targeted for.

If you are only targeted with a 50% bonus like me, you will be paying an effective rate of USD469 a night thus saving you close to USD200 than if you were to pay with cash for a night at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand. Remember also that most hotels have a 24 hour cancellation policy for points reservations (although individual properties can impose more strict policies at their discretion, so be sure to read the fine print).

Concluding Thoughts

A 100% bonus on IHG Rewards Club purchases is as good as it gets – if you were targeted for this bonus amount of course. If your bonus amount is lower than 100%, I would recommend doing your own calculations to see if you will still be able to extract value out of purchasing IHG Rewards Club points at a 50% or 75% bonus.

I am targeted for 100% bonus, but no stay planned. Just a club member with recent stay in Jan 2018.

Got 100% bonus offer. Looking at HKG Interconti which is 70k points. Even with the bonus the cost of the room night was not that much cheaper than the IHG member rate, albeit if I bought with points it’s cancellable.

I’ve found for hotel bookings it’s better to wait for specials, use accorplus rates, book via amex platinum, look at hotwire or use a discount code like the AARP or AAA rates at the Hiltons, than buy these points at half price and book a cancellable room.
