Citibank has launched an enhanced Citi Prestige’s sign-up bonus offering 120,000 ThankYou points (equal to 48,000 miles) for applications submitted by 31 October 2022.
This is 20% more than the 100,000 ThankYou points sign-up bonus which lapsed on 31 July 2022. Spending criteria remains the same, namely: pay the non-waivable S$535 annual fee and spend a minimum of S$800 in the first two months of approval.
Citi Prestige 48,000 miles sign-up offer
From 1 August to 31 October 2022, new Citi Prestige cardholders will receive 120,000 ThankYou points (equivalent to 48,000 miles) when they:
- Apply online for a Citi Prestige Card by 31 October 2022
- Get approved within 30 days from application
- Pay the S$535 annual fee
- Spend at least S$800 on eligible transactions within the first 2 months of approval (see next section for definitions)
The offer is open to individuals who have not cancelled a Citi Prestige in the 12 months prior to application, and do not currently hold any other principal Citi credit card. For example, if you cancelled a Citi PremierMiles Card 3 months ago and do not currently hold any other principal Citi credit cards, you will be eligible for this offer. Do note the eligibility criteria has been tightened from the previous 100,000 points sign-up offer, where existing Citi cardholders were eligible.
Citibank has updated the eligibility criteria. Existing Citi principal credit card members are eligible for this offer, provided they have not cancelled a Citi Prestige in the past 12 months.
Bonus points are on top of the regular base earn rate. To illustrate, if you spend the S$800 entirely on local transactions, you’ll receive a total of 122,600 ThankYou points:
- 2,600 ThankYou points for spending S$800 (@ 3.25 points/S$1)
- 120,000 ThankYou points for meeting the minimum spend
What’s a bit unusual about this promotion is that the Citi Prestige normally awards 62,500 ThankYou points (25,000 miles) to first-time and renewing customers, just for paying the S$535 annual fee.
However, the T&Cs now seem to imply that it’s an all or nothing deal. In other words, you must pay the S$535 annual fee and spend at least S$800 within two months of approval to get 120,000 ThankYou points; if you just pay the annual fee but don’t meet the S$800 spend, you’ll get nothing.
That could simply be poor wording on the part of the T&Cs, but until I see anything contrary, I’m going to assume that’s what they intended.
What counts as qualifying spending?
Successful applicants must spend S$800 within the first 2 months of approval, otherwise known as the qualifying period.
The qualifying period for meeting the minimum spend runs from the approval date and two full calendar months following that. For example, those approved on 14 July 2022 will have until 30 September 2022 to meet the minimum spend. In other words, you actually have 2-3 months to hit the minimum spend, and should apply as early in the month as possible.
Qualifying spend excludes the following:
❌ Qualifying Spend Exclusions
(i) any Equal Payment Plan (EPP) purchases,
(ii) refunded/disputed/unauthorised/fraudulent retail purchases,
(iii) Quick Cash and other instalment loans,
(iv) Citi PayLite/Citi Flexibill/cash advance/quasi-cash transactions/balance transfers/annual card membership fees/interest/goods and services taxes,
(v) bill payments made using the Eligible Card as a source of funds,
(vi) late payment fees and
(vii) any other form of service/ miscellaneous fees
For avoidance of doubt, Citi PayAll transactions will count towards the minimum spend.
When will the miles be credited?
The 120,000 ThankYou points will be credited within three calendar months from the end of the minimum spend period.
What can you do with ThankYou points?
Citi ThankYou points are extremely flexible, with a total of 11 different transfer partners to choose from.
Points can be transferred to miles in blocks of 25,000 Thank You points (10,000 miles). There are some great sweet spots with programmes like Etihad Guest, British Airways Executive Club, and Turkish Miles&Smiles. Even the newly-revitalised Qatar Privilege Club might be a good bet (but heads up: they’ve sneakily reintroduced award segment fees!)
(ThankYou Points: Miles)
Transfers cost a flat S$26.75. Do remember that Citibank does not pool points across cards, so if you have both a Citi Prestige and Citi Rewards, you’ll need to pay two conversion fees.
Alternative SingSaver offer
An alternative sign-up offer for the Citi Prestige is available through SingSaver.
New-to-bank customers who apply via SingSaver by 7 August 2022 and spend at least S$500 within 30 days of approval can pick one of the following gifts:
- Dyson Supersonic (worth S$649)
- Samsonite Straren Spinner 67/24 (worth S$600)
- Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones (worth S$569)
- S$350 cash
Do note that this offer is slightly stricter. Unlike the 120,000 ThankYou points offer, applicants must not have held any Citi card in the past 12 months.
Existing customers who apply via SingSaver by 7 August 2022 will receive S$30 cash, with no minimum spend required.
Be sure to follow the steps below:
- Apply through this link
- You will be directed to a SingSaver landing page. Enter your email address and click “confirm”
- Complete your application and take a screenshot of the Application Reference Number (for Citibank, it’s 12 alphanumeric characters)
- Fill in the SingSaver rewards form that will be sent to your email. It’s vital you fill in the form– no form, no reward.
Is this offer worth it?
If you’ve been eyeing a Citi Prestige, then this is a rare opportunity to rack up 57,500 bonus ThankYou points (23,000 miles) for a relatively low S$800 minimum spend. Keep in mind that the “true” bonus here is 57,500 points and not 120,000 points, since cardholders normally receive 62,500 points for paying the annual fee anyway.
Now that the borders have reopened, the value of the Citi Prestige goes up considerably. You can use its limo benefit (albeit with a hefty minimum spend) to get to the airport, its unlimited Priority Pass to access the lounge (+1 guest), and its 4th night free benefit to save on hotels.
Check out how the Citi Prestige compares to other cards in the $120K segment in this year’s $120K card showdown.
Citi Prestige cardholders can get 48,000 miles when they spend S$800 within 2 months of approval and pay the S$535 annual fee. This is an altogether richer sign-up offer than last month’s, albeit with slightly stricter eligibility criteria (cannot hold any principal Citi cards at time of application).
This offer is valid till 31 October 2022, so remember to apply before then.
