Citi Prestige offering 48,000 miles sign-up bonus

Last Updated:

From now till 31 January 2023, get 48,000 bonus miles with just S$800 spend on a new Citi Prestige card.

Citibank has extended its 120,000 ThankYou points (48,000 miles) sign-up bonus for the Citi Prestige, which is now valid for applications submitted by 31 January 2023.

This is 20% more than the 100,000 ThankYou points sign-up bonus which lapsed on 31 July 2022. Spending criteria remains the same, namely: pay the non-waivable S$535 annual fee and spend a minimum of S$800 in the first two months of approval.

Citi Prestige 48,000 miles sign-up offer

Apply here

From 1 August 2022 to 31 January 2023, new Citi Prestige cardholders will receive 120,000 ThankYou points (equivalent to 48,000 miles) when they:

  • Apply online for a Citi Prestige Card by 31 January 2023
  • Get approved within 30 days from application
  • Pay the S$535 annual fee
  • Spend at least S$800 on eligible transactions within the first 2 months of approval (see next section for definitions)

This offer is valid for anyone who has not cancelled a Citi Prestige Card in the past 12 months, even if you currently hold another principal Citi card.

Bonus points are on top of the regular base earn rate. To illustrate, if you spend the S$800 entirely on local transactions, you’ll receive a total of 122,600 ThankYou points:

  • 2,600 ThankYou points for spending S$800 (@ 3.25 points/S$1)
  • 120,000 ThankYou points for meeting the minimum spend

What’s a bit unusual about this promotion is that the Citi Prestige normally awards 62,500 ThankYou points (25,000 miles) to first-time and renewing customers, just for paying the S$535 annual fee.

However, the T&Cs now seem to imply that it’s an all or nothing deal. In other words, you must pay the S$535 annual fee and spend at least S$800 within two months of approval to get 120,000 ThankYou points; if you just pay the annual fee but don’t meet the S$800 spend, you’ll get nothing.

That could simply be poor wording on the part of the T&Cs, but until I see anything contrary, I’m going to assume that’s what they intended.

What counts as qualifying spending?

Successful applicants must spend S$800 within the first 2 months of approval, otherwise known as the qualifying period.

The qualifying period for meeting the minimum spend runs from the approval date and two full calendar months following that. For example, those approved on 14 July 2022 will have until 30 September 2022 to meet the minimum spend. In other words, you actually have 2-3 months to hit the minimum spend, and should apply as early in the month as possible.

Qualifying spend excludes the following:

❌ Qualifying Spend Exclusions
(i) any Equal Payment Plan (EPP) purchases,
(ii) refunded/disputed/unauthorised/fraudulent retail purchases,
(iii) Quick Cash and other instalment loans,
(iv) Citi PayLite/Citi Flexibill/cash advance/quasi-cash transactions/balance transfers/annual card membership fees/interest/goods and services taxes,
(v) bill payments made using the Eligible Card as a source of funds,
(vi) late payment fees and
(vii) any other form of service/ miscellaneous fees

For avoidance of doubt, Citi PayAll transactions will count towards the minimum spend.

When will the miles be credited?

The 120,000 ThankYou points will be credited within three calendar months from the end of the minimum spend period.

What can you do with ThankYou points?

Citi ThankYou points are extremely flexible, with a total of 11 different transfer partners to choose from.

Points can be transferred to miles in blocks of 25,000 Thank You points (10,000 miles). There are some great sweet spots with programmes like Etihad Guest, British Airways Executive Club, and Turkish Miles&Smiles. Even the newly-revitalised Qatar Privilege Club might be a good bet (but heads up: they’ve sneakily reintroduced award segment fees!)

PartnerTransfer Ratio
(ThankYou Points: Miles)

Transfers cost a flat S$26.75. Citibank does not pool points across cards, so if you have a Citi Prestige and Citi Rewards/Citi PremierMiles, you’ll need to pay multiple conversion fees.

Alternative SingSaver offer

SingSaver Offer

If this offer isn’t to your liking, an alternative option is available for applications made via SingSaver (you cannot stack the Citi and SingSaver offers).

New-to-bank customers who apply via SingSaver by 31 October 2022 and spend at least S$500 within 30 days of approval can pick one of the following gifts:

  • Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy
  • ErgoTune Supreme V3
  • Nintendo Switch OLED
  • S$400 cash

Be sure to follow the steps below:

  1. Apply through this link
  2. You will be directed to a SingSaver landing page. Enter your email address and click “confirm”
  3. Complete your application and take a screenshot of the Application Reference Number (for Citibank, it’s 12 alphanumeric characters)
  4. Fill in the SingSaver rewards form that will be sent to your email. It’s vital you fill in the form– no form, no reward.

Do note that this offer is slightly stricter. Unlike the 120,000 ThankYou points offer, applicants must not have held any Citi card in the past 12 months.

Is this offer worth it?

If you’ve been eyeing a Citi Prestige, then this is a rare opportunity to rack up 57,500 bonus ThankYou points (23,000 miles) for a relatively low S$800 minimum spend. Keep in mind that the “true” bonus here is 57,500 points and not 120,000 points, since cardholders normally receive 62,500 points for paying the annual fee anyway.

Now that the borders have reopened, the value of a Citi Prestige goes up considerably. You can use its limo benefit (albeit with a hefty minimum spend) to get to the airport, its unlimited Priority Pass to access the lounge (+1 guest), and its 4th night free benefit to save on hotels.

Check out how the Citi Prestige compares to other cards in the $120K segment in this year’s $120K card showdown.

2022 Edition: The $120K Credit Card Showdown

Citi Prestige cardholders can get 48,000 miles when they spend S$800 within 2 months of approval and pay the S$535 annual fee. This is a great opportunity to pick up a generous sign-up offer with a new Citi Prestige, and if you’ve been eyeing the card for a while, now would be the right time to hop onboard.

This offer is valid till 31 January 2023, so remember to apply before then.

Does exclusion xi “transit related transactions” mean air ticket purchases are not eligible…?

no, they are eligible.

Hi, can I clarify, I have never had a Citi prestige card before, so I’ll be eligible for the 120K thank you points even if I’m currently holding a Citi PremierMiles card?

no, this offer is clearly stated as “New To Bank”, which you are not.

I see. Thanks

Oh no come back! The T&Cs have been updated

Hi Aaron, does it mean I can cancel my existing Citibank cards (CRV, CRM, Premiermiles) today and then apply for the Prestige card tmrw and still qualify for this promotion? Thanks.

Has anyone used the hotel credits recently?
I just made a few bookings for my stay in October and the folks at citi tell me that I can’t use my hilton honors number for benefits.

Is this true?

Interested to know as well. So if use citi 4th night free booking via citi, not able to enjoy hilton elite member benefits like free upgrade and breakfast?

But it’s not supposed to be this way. I specifically told then to book via hilton…sigh.

Looks like I’ll have to cancel this card

Ok…wrote to them. The cso replied and apologized and added my Hilton membership

You can get hilton point, but I dont think you can get the benefits. HH benefits only applicable if you direct book with Hilton.

Hi Milelion, how does this promo compare to others seen before? i.e. within the past 1-2 years

Hi Milelion, I showed a screenshot of this promotion post and this is Citibank CSO reply “Based on checking here, we already received the screenshot you sent us and they said that the promotion was not a promotion offered by Citibank. It’s a third party promotion that was not legitimate and Citibank was not part of it”.

😅 did I get it wrong? Omg Citibank really need educate their CS.

The reply was from Christian (Citibank CSO)

Hi Aaron. Early in the article you write, “ This offer is valid for anyone who has not cancelled a Citi Prestige Card in the past 12 months, even if you currently hold another principal Citi card”, but in the conclusion you write, “ This is an altogether richer sign-up offer than last month’s, albeit with slightly stricter eligibility criteria (cannot hold any principal Citi cards at time of application).” Reading the T&Cs, it seems you are correct in the first instances. Can you please clarify?

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification.

Hi, may I clarify again – current Citi premier card holder (non Prestige card holder) is eligible for the offer?
