KrisFlyer Cruise now offers KrisFlyer miles redemptions

KrisFlyer members can now redeem their miles to pay for KrisFlyer Cruise bookings, though at 0.64 cents per mile, the value leaves a lot to be desired.

Back in November 2024, Singapore Airlines launched a new platform called KrisFlyer Cruise, which allows KrisFlyer members to earn additional miles on cruise bookings worldwide.

The concept is similar to KrisFlyer vRooms; basically a white-label portal that compiles cruise options from major providers including Carnival, Cunard, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian, Princess, Royal Caribbean, and more.

The platform was earn-only at the time of launch, but KrisFlyer Cruise has now added the ability to redeem miles as well. The catch? The value on offer is terrible, and should be avoided at all costs.

Miles Value
200 miles US$1

KrisFlyer members can now use their miles to offset the cost of their KrisFlyer Cruise bookings at a rate of 200 miles per US$1.

To mark the launch of this new feature, a 5% miles rebate will be granted to bookings made between 4-30 May 2026:

  • First 50 bookings only
  • Rebate is capped at 15,000 miles (i.e. you’ll max it out with a payment of US$1,500 or more)
  • Booking must be partially or fully paid with miles

In addition to this, the first booking made each week with a combination of miles and cash will receive a complimentary 3-night hotel stay in Sydney or Melbourne.

  • Week 1: 4 – 9 May 2026
  • Week 2: 11 – 16 May 2026
  • Week 3: 18 – 23 May 2026
  • Week 4: 25 – 30 May 2026

The complimentary hotel stay must be booked by 30 June 2026, and stayed by 15 December 2026. No further details have been provided regarding the hotel’s tier (though it’s probably not the Park Hyatt Melbourne!).

Is it worth it?

A big, fat NO.

Based on the current exchange rates, KrisFlyer Cruise redemptions yield roughly 0.64 SG cents per mile (or 0.67 SG cents per mile with the 5% rebate), which is absolutely dire. In fact, it ranks towards the bottom in terms of redemption value!

It’s sad that the value here can’t even approach KrisFlyer’s other white-label platform, KrisFlyer vRooms (perhaps the margins on cruise bookings are smaller), and long story short, there’s no reason to burn your miles here, period.

Even if I had expiring miles and no upcoming travel plans, I’d sooner use those miles through Kris+ for 1 cent each.

What about earning miles through KrisFlyer Cruise?

While you shouldn’t be redeeming miles on KrisFlyer Cruise, there’s nothing wrong with earning miles on cruise bookings here— provided the price is competitive. KrisFlyer Cruise offers members 2 miles per US$1 spent on cruise fares, which works out to roughly 1.56 mpd.

Do note that miles will not be awarded for port expenses, government taxes, gratuities, onboard spend, and shore excursions.

To earn KrisFlyer miles, you must provide your membership number at the time of booking, with the name of the lead guest matching the account. Miles can be earned by a maximum of one KrisFlyer member per cabin, and will be credited to your account approximately four weeks after cruise completion.

Here’s an important thing to note: only certain cruise lines, like Carnival and Royal Caribbean, can be booked online.

Other cruise liners require you to call to finalise your reservation, and in those scenarios KrisFlyer Cruise would be more like a catalogue than an OTA. So it’s not as seamless as I would have hoped for, not to mention that making reservations over the phone will deprive you of online bonuses for certain credit cards.

What cards should you use for cruise bookings?

There are two possibilities for how KrisFlyer Cruise might code:

  1. MCC 4722 (Travel Agency)
  2. MCC 4411 (Cruise Liner)

For what it’s worth, I think (1) is the more likely scenario. Given that transactions will be processed in USD, I would suggest the following cards to maximise your miles.

Keep in mind the table above assumes your transaction is processed online; if you do it over the phone then you’ll have to exclude the DBS Woman’s World Card.

Conclusion

KrisFlyer members can now redeem their miles to pay for cruise bookings made through KrisFlyer Cruise, though at 0.64 cents per mile, the value leaves a lot to be desired.

Even the introductory offer of a 5% miles rebate does little to salvage the situation, though if you fancy your chances, a complimentary three-night hotel stay in Sydney or Melbourne might be tempting (still, you should redeem the absolute minimum number of miles necessary!).
